The old things which have passed away refers to the OSN which has lost its power as well as the spiritual death that resulted because of it.

It is the spiritual death that resulted from the old sin nature that has passed away or lost its’ power.

Death is not a reference to physical death only, but also to spiritual death that our Lord went through for us on the cross, when He was separated from His Father.

Paul is saying I have the intention and desire to do what is right, but no power to carry it out.

Not only is our problem the power of the OSN but it is also the spiritual death that resulted from the presence of the OSN.

2CO 6:14, for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?

When we want to do what is right and good, evil is ever present with us if we are living in our OSN.

And the evil that is present in us is the spiritual death and the separation from God that occurs.

ROM 8:8, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

It does not refer to your past but to your entire old sin nature which is much older than you are.

The old sin nature isn’t passed away, but the old sin nature means spiritual death and you are born with an old sin nature and born with spiritual death.

Spiritual death is a principle of no relationship with God and the old things, the archaic things, refers to spiritual death which means no relationship with God.

All of the handicaps, disadvantages, hindrances, burdens, weights, obstacles...whether genetic or environmental, have lost their power over you when you do not allow the OSN and spiritual death to rule over you.

Even your volitional handicaps, which include your bad decisions made in the past have lost their power over you when you do not allow the OSN and spiritual death to rule over you.

COL 3:15, And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
