The Age of the Jews began with the exodus of the Jewish people from Egypt under the leadership of Moses. It saw the establishment of the Jewish nation and the rise of Israel to greatness under the leadership of kings David and Solomon. Later, as the Jewish people became more prosperous and less concerned about their relationship with God, their kingdom was divided and weakened. Around 600 years before the birth of Jesus Christ, the decline of the nation resulted in mass exile, a period of time called the Babylonian captivity. Much of what happened during their captivity is recorded in the Book of Daniel. Daniel was a young Jew who had been taken to Babylon when the Jews had been conquered by the great Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel was blessed by God with the gift of prophecy, and as a result he rose to a position of great influence in the king’s court.
