Noah

Introduction
Chapter 11 of the Book of Hebrews records triumphs of faith of some Old Testament
men and women. This New Testament book is a roll call of a number of visible heroes of
the Old Testament, and we have come to refer to it as God’s Hall of Fame. Entrance into
this select group is based not upon great feats of skill, but upon the only work that God
will accept ­ faith! Noah’s faith is recalled for us in Heb 11:7 By faith Noah, being
warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation
of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the
righteousness which is according to faith. As in the previous verses in this chapter, this
verse begins with the phrase by faith translated from the instrumental use of the Greek
word pistis, which is pistei. Pistei should be translated “by means of doctrine.” Pistis
refers to what is believed, the body of belief, or doctrine, as in such passages as Gal 1:23;
1Ti 1:19; 4:1,6; 6:10; 2Ti 2:18; 4:7. In all of these passages, pistis refers to what is
believed, the body of belief, or doctrine.
Noah is the last of the antediluvian trio of super­grace heroes. The first 500 years
of his life are not discussed, we assume during that time he reached different stages of
spiritual growth. Noah and his three sons are first mentioned in Gen 5:32 And Noah was
five hundred years old, and Noah became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. In Gen
6:9­10 These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man,
blameless in his time; Noah walked with God. And Noah became the father of three
sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Noah, whose name means rest or relief, is mentioned in
such a way as to indicate that the last 450 years of his life were years of spiritual growth
all the way to spiritual maturity and super­grace. The line of descent from Adam to Noah
was as follows: Adam, Seth, Enosh, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, and Noah. We know that Noah lived at a time when the whole earth was filled
with violence and corruption, yet Noah did not allow the evil standards of his day to rob
him of fellowship with God. Noah stood out as one who walked with God (Gen 6:9), as
was true of his great­grandfather Enoch. So let’s look at Heb 11:7* By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Noah, being
warned. The phrase being warned is the Greek aorist passive participle, chrematistheis, which means to be divinely instructed, or to receive warning from doctrine, and in the
passive voice, it means having received a special divine revelation which included
specific and detailed instructions. Doctrine is not only a source of capacity for life, love
and happiness, but doctrine is also a warning system. However, it functions in any of
those areas only when it is resident in your soul. Your life after salvation was designed to
have doctrine in the driver's seat, dictating your course of life, and your volition must
respond to doctrine that is resident in your soul. Heb 11:7* By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Noah, having been warned
by God. The constantive aorist contemplates the action of the verb in it's entirety, where
it takes the communication of pertinent doctrine and regardless of how long it took for
Noah to understand, gathers it into one ball of wax, and says that Noah arrived at a point
where he understood what was going on in human history; just as every one of us can, if
we stick with doctrine. Noah continued with doctrine, became spiritually mature, and
received divine warning from God concerning the future.
Being in the Minority
The doctrine in your soul will enable you to take the proper action, even though
you are in the minority, even though people say that you are crazy, or a fanatic, or that
there is something wrong with you. But what others say about you doesn't matter, it is
what God thinks that counts. Doctrine will put you in the minority. Jam 2:14* What use
is it or profit, my brethren, if a man keeps on alleging that he has doctrine, but he keeps
on having no works? The Greek word for works is ergons, which is divine production. This word actually refers to any production that is based upon Bible doctrine.
Noah was in the minority, we know that from certain passages of scripture. For
example, we see in Gen 6:5­8, Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great
on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And the Lord was grieved that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His
heart. And the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the
land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I
have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
In the midst of all the evil there was one man who went against popular opinion. The principle here is that doctrine always puts a person in the minority! God spoke to
Gideon in Jdg 6:14­16, And the Lord looked at him and said, “Go in this your strength
and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian. Have I not sent you?” And he said to Him,
“O Lord, how shall I deliver Israel? Behold, my family is the least in Manasseh, and I am
the youngest in my father's house.” But the Lord said to him, “Surely I will be with you,
and you shall defeat Midian as one man.” Gideon was in the minority! In Exo 23:2, Moses wrote, “You shall not follow a multitude in doing evil, nor shall you testify in a
dispute so as to turn aside after a multitude in order to pervert justice. Stay away from
the majority! Our Lord warned us to stay away from the majority in Mat 7:13­14, which
says, “Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide, and the way is broad that leads to
destruction, and many are those who enter by it. For the gate is small, and the way is
narrow that leads to life, and few are those who find it.” Then in Mat 22:14 we read “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Doctrine is going to put you in the minority, and there is one principle of doctrine
you must learn early: The majority is always wrong, and there will be a minority that is
always right. Throughout our lives, we are trained in the academic realm, and by the
media to think that the majority is always right, however that is not true. Rev 12:9,
referring to the majority, tells us, “And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of
old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world;” Rev 20:3 also
tells us about the majority, “and threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over
him, so that he [Satan] should not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand
years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.” The
majority in Noah’s day was comprised of everyone except Noah and his 7 family
members, and yet he was convinced by God, not by the majority. Heb 11:7* By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Noah, having been warned
about things not yet seen. The phrase not yet seen is a present passive participle of the
Greek word blepo which is blepomenon which refers to being warned about things that
have not yet occurred in human history. As a spiritually mature believer, Noah received
doctrinal information about the termination of the antediluvian civilization, and this
doctrinal information was a part of Noah's super­grace blessing. Super­grace believers,
or mature believers, always receive accurate warning of any major catastrophe in history. This gives them the opportunity to take action that will glorify God. For example, the
ship that Noah constructed constituted action from doctrine, and it was the source of
ridicule, until the floods came. This information came to Noah at least 120 years before
the flood according to Gen 6:3. People mocked him, and made life miserable for him, and for 120 years he held his ground and never changed. When your conviction or
decisiveness is based upon Bible doctrine in the soul, you can find yourself in the
minority. There are believers who are constantly judged and criticized; called arrogant
and hard­headed for the their unwavering stand with doctrine, and yet these are the
believers who have the opportunity to become invisible heroes in their generation. Greatness is attained by finding the right track and staying on it. Noah is a great example
of this principle in that he did not allow the evil standards of his day to rob him of
fellowship with God. Noah took action, he took minority action!
Heb 11:7* By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Noah, having been warned
about things not yet seen [the future of human history], in reverence constructed an ark.
The phrase in reverence is the Greek participle, eulabetheis and should be translated
having been motivated by reverence or respect, it means to be motivated in a certain area.
Noah received this motivation from this doctrine resident in his soul. The Greek verb
kateskeuasen, means to construct on the basis of a specified blueprint. It means to
follow some exact engineering drawings, which were given to him in such passages as
Gen 6:14­16, “Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall make the ark with
rooms, and shall cover it inside and out with pitch. And this is how you shall make it: the
length of the ark three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. You shall make a window for the ark, and finish it to a cubit from the top; and set the
door of the ark in the side of it; you shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.” One day sitting upon dry land, was a completely constructed ship that was designed for
water. The Greek word for ark is kiboton, which refers to an ark, a wooden chest, or a
ship. Noah was motivated by the doctrine in his soul to build the ship.
So, our corrected translation of Heb 11:7* By means of doctrine resident in the
soul, Noah, having been warned about things not yet seen, in reverence constructed a
ship for the salvation of his household, the Greek word used here for salvation is the noun
soterian, which means deliverance. The seven members of his family were all delivered
by the building of the ship by Noah. This is a blessing by association to the super­grace
believer. Some of you will never reach super­grace, and the best thing for you to do is to
join yourself with a super­grace believer and receive blessings by association. In fact, the
only way that some believers ever get happiness is through their association with a supergrace believer. In Noah's family, the other seven members were not in super­grace, but
Noah was, and thus we have the principle of blessing by association. Super­grace
blessing is the means of blessing those in the periphery that are not at super­grace, and in
some cases may not even be saved.

about things not yet seen, in reverence constructed a ship for the deliverance of his
family, by which [or through which] he condemned the world. Noah used the doctrine
resident in the soul as motivation to reach super­grace, to build a ship for the Lord, and
then to condemn the world at that time. In fact, he did all of this in the presence of the
strongest possible human opposition, as well as very strong satanic opposition. Remember that these were the days of visible demonism, half­human, half angelic
creatures as well as an evil, vile humanity. All of these beings were in opposition to
Noah who stood alone as the only living super­grace believer, the only other super­grace
hero had been Methuselah who died just before the flood.
It takes a great deal of strength, and a tremendous amount of doctrine in the soul
to stand up against continual opposition over a long period of time. It is often said that if
you listen to those in the media long enough, regardless of your own viewpoint, you will
be convinced of their viewpoint because they will voice their message often enough that
you will finally cede to them, one point at a time. This explains why believers go from
positive volition toward doctrine, to antinominianism, to liberalism, and then to
lasciviousness. In the midst of ridicule and condemnation, Noah continued to
follow God’s directions and continued with doctrine. Because of his perseverance, this
one man turned the whole course of history around! One man, not one group, but one
man turned the whole course of history, that is the invisible­heroship concept. In this
case, by being faithful to doctrine, Noah turned all of their condemnation of him, back on
them. This is why our Lord said in Mat 7:1­2 “Do not judge lest you be judged. For in
the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be
measured to you.” Paul said in 2Th 1:6­10 “For after all it is only just for God to repay
with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us
as well when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in
flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do
not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. And these will pay the penalty of eternal
destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when
He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who
have believed­­ for our testimony to you was believed.” In Psa 18:25­26, David said, “With the kind Thou dost show Thyself kind; With the blameless Thou dost show Thyself
blameless; With the pure Thou dost show Thyself pure; And with the crooked Thou dost
show Thyself astute.” For 120 years society placed upon Noah a tremendous amount of
pressure, but at the end of that time Noah was vindicated by God.

family, by which [or through which] he condemned the world. The Greek word for
condemn is an aorist active indicative, katekrinen, which means to condemn by your
action or your life, not by your tongue. Noah condemned his enemies by being a supergrace believer and sticking with doctrine. So, in reality, it was not the majority or the
world condemning Noah, it was Noah's life condemning the world. While the whole
world was ridiculing and condemning Noah, he remained faithful to doctrine.
Self­Examination
1Co 2:14­15* says, But the soulish man does not receive [accept] the spiritual
phenomena from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he is not able to
understand them [spiritual phenomena] because they are spiritually appraised [or
discerned in a manner caused by the filling of the Spirit]. But he who is spiritual [the
spiritual man] discerns or appraises all things, yet he himself is discerned [or judged
rightly] by no man. Your real spiritual status quo is known only by you and the Lord.
Therefore you are not subject to investigation by other believers, including your pastor;
that is a part of the privacy of the priesthood. For this reason, the Bible instructs you to
examine yourself and your own work. 1Co 11:28 “But let a man examine himself.”
2Co 13:5 “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves!” Hag 1:5
“Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts, Consider your ways!” 1Co 11:31 “But if we
judged ourselves rightly, we should not be judged.” Gal 6:4 “But let each one examine
his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and
not in regard to another.” We do not have the right to examine other believers because we do not have the
power to know all things. Neither can we look inside their soul to examine what God
examines, which is their motivation. The Bible never tells us to examine the fruit of
others, we have not been made fruit inspectors. Remember, Satan is the one who
condemns. 1Co 2:15­16* But he who is spiritual [the spiritual man] discerns or
appraises all things, yet he himself is discerned by no man. For who has known the mind
or the thinking of the Lord that he should instruct Him? But we have the mind or the
thinking of Christ [Bible doctrine]. You are to be given privacy. Privacy is that principle
of freedom whereby an individual has the right to grow on his own level and at his own
pace without the manipulation and observation of others. The privacy of your priesthood
permits the function of both your positive volition toward doctrine, and the right to
metabolize and apply that doctrine to your own experience. The tendency of the flesh is
to get arrogant and to want to apply doctrine to everyone else's experience. Refusing to
be distracted by this tendency, Noah condemned his enemies by his advancement to
being a super­grace believer, and sticking with doctrine. Again, it was not the majority or
the world condemning Noah; it was Noah's life condemning the world. It was not the
super­grace believer being condemned by others, regardless of how hard they tried; it was
the super­grace believer's life condemning them. There are lessons to learn from Noah's message:
1. We learn that God can take any evil situation and convert it into divine good. Joseph
expressed this truth to his brothers who had betrayed him in Gen 50:20 “and as for
you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”
2. When someone tries to curse or destroy another believer, the Lord will turn the curse
into a blessing when the believer operates in the faith rest drill. Baalim, who was a
believer, tried to curse the Jews and Moses tells us in Deu 23:5 what God did about
that situation, “the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you because
the Lord your God loves you.”
3. Even when evil comes against you, the Lord can turn the circumstances into a
blessing, providing that you operate in the faith rest drill and let him handle the
situation. Deu 32:41 “if I sharpen My flashing sword, and My hand takes hold on
justice, I will render vengeance on My adversaries, and I will repay those who hate
Me.”
4. The believer does not have to fight and defend himself, God will do that for the
believer who operates in the faith rest drill. 2Th 1:6 “for after all it is only just for
God to repay with affliction those who afflict you.”
5. The believer is told to stop being anxious and worried, and to let God handle any
unjust and unfair situation. Isa 35:4 say to those with anxious heart, “take courage,
fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance; the recompense of God will
come, and He will deliver you.”
6. We are commanded never to take revenge on anyone for anything. Rom 12:19 never
take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is
written, “vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
7. If you are being mistreated in any situation, do not lift up your hand against another
person. 1Sa 24:12 “may the Lord judge between you and me, and may the Lord
avenge me on you; but my hand shall not be against you.”
8. If you have been robbed by another believer, do not take out your vengeance and
frustration on him, give it over to the Lord. 1Th 4:6 and that no man transgress and
defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things,
just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you.
9. Never repay evil with evil and give someone what you think that they deserve. Pro
20:22 do not say, “I will repay evil”; wait for the Lord, and He will deliver you.
10. When someone has wronged you, let the Lord repay him according to his deeds. 2Ti
4:14 “Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm; the Lord will repay him
according to his deeds.” Pro 24:29 says, Do not say, “thus I shall do to him as he
has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.” Let the Lord
handle these situations. By being faithful to Bible doctrine and by going forward in
spite of the satanic opposition, Noah turned the whole course of history around. He
not only got to the high ground of super­grace but he held it, he stuck it out.
Heb 11:7* By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Noah, having been warned
about things not yet seen, in reverence constructed a ship for the deliverance of his
family, through which he condemned the world [or the cosmos, the organized system of
the world under Satan]. The Greek word for kosmon represents the organized system of
the world under the rule of the devil. By operating in the faith­rest drill, Noah turned
everything around. He didn't fight back, he let people judge and gossip. He just stuck
with communicating doctrine in spite of the opposition. He ignored the organized system, which was designed by Satan to distract him from his calling, and God vindicated him
and gave him the highest honor any man could have. God spun the whole course of
history around Noah. God vindicated His man!
Divine vindication means that God will avenge, set free, deliver and provide
justification and blessing for His people. Divine vindication normally takes place when
all human strength is gone and only divine power is available. Deu 32:36 “For the Lord
will vindicate His people, And will have compassion on His servants; When He sees that
their strength is gone. This vindication is based upon the believer living in the imputed
righteousness provided by God. Psa 7:8 The Lord judges the peoples; Vindicate me, O
Lord, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me. It is the result of
sticking with doctrine in spite of all the pressure placed upon you to stop. Psa 26:1 “Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity; And I have trusted in the Lord
without wavering.” Notice, without wavering, in other words, sticking it out, sticking it
out, sticking it out! Divine vindication brings happiness to those with integrity, and
blessing to the victim. Psa 35:27 Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my
vindication; And let them say continually, “The Lord be magnified, Who delights in the
prosperity of His servant.” It is given to the victim of deceit providing that he gives the
situation over to the supreme court of Heaven. Psa 54:1 “Save me, O God, by Thy name,
And vindicate me by Thy power.” Divine vindication is promised to the servants of the
Lord. Isa 54:17 “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; And every tongue
that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the
Lord, And their vindication is from Me,” declares the Lord. Divine vindication is based
upon the production of metabolized doctrine.
Noah was a pivot around whom God turned the whole course of history. That's
what doctrine can do, and if you don't think doctrine resident in your soul is important, you are confused as far as the Christian way of life is concerned. Noah's doctrine
influenced his life. Noah had respect for God, and did not dispute with God as to why he
should make an ark, nor how it could be capable of containing what was to be lodged in
it, nor how such a vessel could possibly weather so great a storm. His doctrine resident
in the soul silenced all objections, and set him to work earnestly. He is an example of the
fact that a small group of people, being a pivot, can change the course of history, and
keep this country from going under. He concentrated on what was important, and on
what pleased God. Noah changed the course of history with doctrine and this principle of
doctrine also can be applied to Noah’s faith. The only way that we can please
God is with doctrine resident in our soul. This world has yet to see in full, in modern
history, what doctrine in the soul of one person can accomplish, let alone what doctrine
can accomplish in a small group of positive believers. You don't have to have a lot of
people, and above all, you don't have to have popularity, all you have to do is to have
doctrine in the soul to please God. 1Sa 16:7 for God sees not as man sees, for man looks
at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
Heb 11:7* By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Noah, having been warned about
things not yet seen, in reverence constructed a ship for the deliverance of his family,
through which he condemned the world or the cosmos, and became. The word became is
the aorist middle indicative of ginomai which is egento which is used in concert with
ginomai in verse 6. Accurately translated, we have, that He is, and that He becomes a
rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. When God becomes a rewarder in verse 7,
then man who is the recipient becomes something; therefore it says, he became an heir. Heb 11:7* By means of doctrine resident in the soul, Noah, having been warned
about things not yet seen, in reverence constructed a ship for the deliverance of his
family, through which he condemned the world or the cosmos, and became an heir of the
righteousness which is according to faith [doctrine]. The Greek noun for heir is
kleronomas, and it refers to anyone who benefits from his heritage or environment or
who is a recipient of what God has provided for His people. Here the word refers to the
divine blessings provided by God the Father for winner believers in the antediluvian
civilization. The phrase, according to faith is the Greek prepositional phrase kata pistin, which is correctly translated according to faith or doctrine. Bible doctrine gives each of
us the inheritance that God has provided for us.
The Antediluvian Times
Genesis chapter 6 describes for us the environment in which Noah lived during the
antediluvian civilization. In this chapter, there are two explanations that have been used.
The interpretations revolve around who the sons of God and the daughters of men
mentioned in Gen 6:2 are. Some take the position that the sons of God refer to the line of
Seth (representing believers) and that the daughters of men refer to the line of Cain
(representing unbelievers). This is over simplifying the passage, and shows why it is
important to go back to and study the original languages to accurately interpret the Bible.
Without such study, you also don't have the answers concerning such questions as who
the angels are in such verses as; 2Pe 2:4 For if God did not spare angels when they
sinned, but cast them into Tartarus and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for
judgment. This is an important question and is a vital part of our study of Noah. So, who are these angels? This cannot refer to all of the fallen angels, because
we know that we are currently engaged in a battle with Satan and fallen angels as in Eph
6:12. In Jud 1:6 And the angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned
their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the
great day. What does the fact that they did not keep their own domain, but abandoned
their proper abode mean? Who are these angels that God has kept in eternal bonds
under darkness for the judgment of the great day? 1Pe 3:19 says, He [TLJC] went and
made proclamation to the fallen angels in prison now. It is inconceivable to people today
to think that demons could ever have sex with humans. However, we must recall that all
of this took place before the flood. The fact that creatures can have sex with other
species is in several passages including Jud 1:6 regarding the angels who did not keep
their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode. God commands humans not to do
what these angels did which was to have sex with a lower creation. We actually have
commands in the Bible that forbid having sex with animals (Lev 20:15­16; Lev 18:23). Having sex with another creation is possible and God forbids it, so we shouldn't be
shocked by the idea that angels could have sex with humans. Gen 6:1­2 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the
land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of
men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. The title
sons of God does not have the same meaning in the Old Testament that it has in the New
Testament where it applies to those who have become the sons of God by the new birth. For example: Rom 8:14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of
God. Rom 8:19 For the anxious longing the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of
the sons of God. In the Old Testament, the phrase the sons of God applies to the angels.
It is found twice in Gen 6:2­4, three times in Job (1:6, 2:1, 38:7), and once in Dan 3:25. A son of God denotes a being brought into existence by a creative act of God. Such were
the angels and such was Adam, and he is so called in Luk 3:38. Describing the
messianic line in Luke's gospel, Luke writes in Luk 3:23, And when He began His
ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being supposedly {the} son of
Joseph, the {son} of Eli. Then in Luk 3:36­38, the {son} of Cainan, the {son} of
Arphaxad, the {son} of Shem, the {son} of Noah, the {son} of Lamech, the {son} of
Methuselah, the {son} of Enoch, the {son} of Jared, the {son} of Mahalaleel, the {son} of
Cainan, the {son} of Enosh, the {son} of Seth, the {son} of Adam, the {son} of God. Note
that Adam was called a son of God, because he came from the creative hand of God.
Angels are called sons of God because they were created by God, Psa 148:2, 5, Praise
Him, all His angels; praise Him, all his hosts! Let them praise the name of the Lord, for
He commanded and they were created. We are called sons of God because we are in
Christ, 2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; Col 3:10 Put on
the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One
who created him [the new nature].
Adam was created in the likeness of God, Gen 5:1 This is the book of the
generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of
God. Adam’s descendants were born in his (Adam’s) likeness, for we read in Gen 5:3
When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his
own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth. Therefore all men born of
Adam, and his descendants, by natural generation are the sons of men, and it is only by
being born again which is a new creation that they can become the sons of God in the
New Testament sense.
So, the Sons of God of Gen 6:2, 4, could not be the sons of Seth because the sons
of Seth were only men, and could only be called sons of men, not sons of God. By this
we can safely conclude that the sons of God in Gen 6:2,4 were angels, not godly
descendants of Seth. Objections are raised concerning this point by noting what our Lord
said about the resurrection of humans that they are like the angels in Luk 20:35­36, that
they neither marry, nor are given in marriage. Therefore they say that the angels are
sexless, and therefore cannot cohabit either with themselves or with human beings. While the passage implies that the angels do not marry, it does not say that they are
sexless, what the passage does teach is that angels do not multiply. Millions of angels
were created at the same time, and because they never die there is no necessity for
reproduction among them. So, these angels were condemned for some particular sin, as
Jud 7 teaches, the sin they were guilty of was that of the sin of fornication and going
after strange flesh, as Jud 7 also teaches. The time of the sin is given as just before the
flood (2Pe 2:5). It is the same sin that caused the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, whose citizens demanded that Lot surrender the two angels that he had received into his
home that they might know them which refers to having sex with them in 2Pe 2:6­8, Jud
7, Gen 19:5. Another argument for the support of this view is the fact that the progeny of this
union between the sons of God and the daughters of men was a race of giants, mighty
men, and men of renown. Gen 6:4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and
also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore
children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
This is the origin of Greek mythology, which is based in fact. Now, think of it, to say
that the sons of God were godly people, and that they married the daughters of men who
were carnal women and then had super­kids, is ridiculous. There have never been such
monstrosities as the offspring of the sons of God and the daughters of men since Noah's
day. The Hebrew word Nephilim most often means giants. It is clear that those mighty
men and men of renown were not the ordinary offspring of the daughters of men, evidenced by the fact that they did not appear before that time or after.
The sons of Seth and the daughters of Cain had undoubtedly intermarried before
this, but there were no such children born to them. This infiltration of angelic beings into
the world of men is the source of Greek mythology, and is where historians obtained their
notions concerning the loves of the gods, and the legends of beings half­human and half­ divine. The characteristics of the antediluvian dispensation, as outlined by the late Dr. A. T. Pierson, were, “First, an advance in fullness and clearness of revelation; then gradual
spirit declension then conformity to the world, ending with amalgamation with the world;
then a gigantic civilization, brilliant but godless; then parallel development of evil and
good; then an apostasy, and finally a catastrophe.” This is the characteristic of every
dispensation that follows, except the last one.
Gen 6 tells of the sons of God with the Hebrew phrase beni ha elohim who are
fallen angels under Satan, and as we will see should be translated sons of the gods. They
were able to appear with angelic bodies to the women of the antediluvian civilization, a
civilization already corrupted by worship of the Olympian pantheon of false Gods. Olympia was a region in ancient Greek noted for the worship of many gods, especially of
Zeus. So, the angels at the time of Gen 6 had sexual capabilities and cohabited with the
women of that era, producing a mutated race called Nephilim. These were the Herculean
heroes and giants and famous half­angel, half­man types described briefly in the Genesis
account. This was an attack by Satan to try to destroy true humanity on earth so that
Jesus Christ could not be truly human. Noah lived in the midst of this type of wild and
evil environment, going forward with the plan of God, in spite of all of the opposition and
distraction. Satan's genetic attack appeared to be totally successful, but there was one
glitch: The divine preservation of eight people, Noah and his wife, and their three sons
and their wives, who were the last remains of uncorrupted humanity. Noah's genealogy, all the way back to Adam, was unstained by the angelic invasion and therefore was pure
humanity. Noah and his wife were free from that contamination, as were their sons and
their son’s wives. Apparently the wives of the sons of Noah were the last of the women
to choose husbands from pure Adamic stock. The times were extremely violent, and no
doubt Satan sought to kill any humans who refused the universal genetic engineering plot
that he had forced upon humanity. In fact, this is the same thing that Satan will seek to
do in the Tribulation period; he will kill anyone who will not receive a number on their
hand or forehead and comply with his new one world government (Rev 13:16­18). This
is why in Gen 6:13, God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the
earth is filled with violence because of them [because of the Nephilim and the half­ human, half­angelic creatures]. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.” The true human race was down to eight members!
With this background, let’s look at 1Pe 3:18­20, For Christ also died for
sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having
been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which also He went and
made proclamation to the spirits now in prison who [the angels in prison] once were
disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the
construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely
through the water. These eight were delivered by the ark in the flood. Many accounts of
these antediluvian times, though corrupted, have come down to us in the form of Greek
and Roman mythology. The Basis of this mythology is the true history of the
antediluvian era. God preserved true humanity, for on the ark was Shem, the seed that
would eventually produce the Messiah, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Act 4:12
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men
by which we must be saved. After the flood, the same eight people who were delivered,
became the basis for the present postdiluvian civilization. The Nephilim incident is referred to in 2Pe 2:4 as well, For if God did not
spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons
to be held for judgment. This verse refers to the angels who sinned, and who are
presently incarcerated in the Tartarus (a part of Hades) awaiting the Final Judgment, at
which time they will be cast into the Lake of Fire. Mat 25:41 “Then He will say to those
on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the
devil and his angels.”’ The Lord Jesus Christ went to Tartarus where He announced His
victory as deity and true humanity over Satan. Heb 2:14 Since the children have flesh
and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him
who holds the power of death­­ that is, the devil. This proclamation made in Tartarus is
mentioned in 1Pe 3:18­22 and it's content, in part, is recorded in Heb 2:5­16. Gen 6:1­2 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of
the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw that the daughters of
men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. As
mentioned the Hebrew phrase beni ha elohim is used six times in the Old Testament and
all six times refers to angelic creatures only. Presently, these same angels can see
nothing, however in Gen 6, they saw the beautiful women of the earth and lusted for
them, and so made their invasion on earth. This invasion, which occurred over a period
of 500 years, is documented by a phenomenal amount of surviving literature from various
writers including Homer. Records from this time are referred to as mythology, but it is
all based in fact.
So who are these angels of Gen 6, and what did these fallen angels do?
The devil commands thousands of angels, and some of these angels were delegated to
hinder the possibility of TLJC ever coming in the flesh. In fact, the first satanic attack on
Christ becoming true humanity was when Cain murdered Abel in Gen 4. That was a
satanic attack on Adam's seed, it was an attack on the first promise given to Adam after
he sinned, that God the Father would provide a Savior from Adam's seed who would
come through the woman as the child­bearer. This is the principle of Rom 5:19, For as
through the one man's disobedience [Adam] the many were made sinners [human race]
even so through the obedience of the one [TLJC] the many will be made righteous. Satan and fallen angels understood that the Savior would come in the line of
Adam as true humanity through the woman. Satan knew that he had to cut off that line
from Adam to Christ, so in the first generation Satan inspired Cain to murder Abel, a
believer, the line then continued through Seth. Gen 4:25 And Adam had relations [sex]
with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, for, she said, “God
has appointed me another offspring in place of Abel; for Cain killed him.” Satan saw
that the human race was just beginning and that he couldn’t use murder to cut off the line,
he then decided to destroy, or pervert true humanity. The attempt consisted of fallen
angels invading earth and copulating with females, producing half­angelic, half­human
beings, as documented in Gen 6:1­6. Satan thought that this would wipe out the promise
of Jesus Christ coming into the world as true humanity. Of course, the flood destroyed
that super race of half­angels, half­men. Because there is no longer any possibility of
angelic infiltration into the human race, the greatest objective of Satan from the time of
the flood to the point of the virgin birth was to kill the Jews, especially those in the
Messianic line.
Fallen Angels
There are two words we must understand as we continue with our study: Fables and
Myths. A fable is a story in which the characters and plot neither pretend reality nor
demand credence. The characters and plot in a fable do not claim to be real nor credible.
Fables are fabricated as a vehicle of moral or academic instruction. Myths, on the other
hand, are stories of anonymous origin. The people to whom they were first addressed
accept them as truth, and myths concern supernatural beings and events, or natural beings
and events influenced by supernatural agencies. We also need to understand that there are two categories of fallen angels:
First, there are demons with angelic bodies that are not permitted on the earth, they are
incarcerated in Tartarus. Secondly, there are demons without bodies (or disembodied
spirits), that are permitted to function under the command of Satan on planet earth. In
Gen 6 the demons with bodies were visible to human beings, and furthermore, they had
very attractive male bodies. These are the demons that were involved in the antediluvian
attack on the human race, which resulted in their incarceration in Tartarus. The
motivation for their attack was to destroy the possibility of the incarnation, beginning
with the virgin birth. The operational demons of the postdiluvian civilization (after the
flood) are disembodied spirits. They do not seek sex with females, as did their
predecessors, but they do seek the invasion of the human body. An important principle to
note is that only unbelievers can be demon possessed. The demon invasion of the soul,
through satanic and false doctrine has two categories of victims: 1) Unbelievers who can
be demon possessed or demon influenced. 2) Believers in Jesus Christ who cannot be
demon possessed, because each member of the Trinity indwells their body, but they can
be under demon influence.
Gen 6 describes for us the environment in which Noah had to live in
during the antediluvian civilization. Gen 6:1­2 Now it came about, when men began to
multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God
saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

phrase should be translated sons of the gods. They were able to appear with angelic
bodies to the women of the antediluvian civilization, a civilization that had already been
corrupted by worship of the Olympian pantheon of false Gods. Olympia was a region in
ancient Greece noted for the worship of many gods, especially Zeus. These angels at that
time of Gen 6 had sexual capabilities and cohabited with the women of that era
producing a mutated race called Nephilim. Remember that this whole plan was an attack
by Satan to try and destroy true humanity on earth so that Jesus Christ could not be truly
human.
In the midst of this wild and evil environment is a man called Noah, going
forward with the plan of God in spite of all the opposition. Recall that Satan sought to
kill any humans who refused the universal genetic engineering policy that he had forced
upon humanity. In fact, 2Pe 2:5 says, God did not spare the ancient world, but preserved
[the Greek word ephulaxen means to guard, defend, protect, watch over, keep safe] Noah,
a preacher of righteousness, with seven others. Who did God guard, defend or protect
Noah from? The answer of course is that Noah was protected from what Gen 6:4 calls
the Nephilim and the Mighty men of renown. Tartarus is mentioned in 2Pe 2:4 as the
place where these fallen angels reside, For God did not spare the angels when they
sinned [Gen 6:2] but incarcerated them in Tartarus with chains of thick darkness, He
delivered them over to judgment, being constantly guarded.
In Greek mythology, Tartarus was considered to be a part of the Greek
underworld called Hades. It was a sunless abyss below Hades in which Zeus was said to
have imprisoned the Titans. The Titans were the children of Uranus (father­heaven) and
Gaea (mother­earth) and their descendants were actually the personification of the
violence of the physical world (earthquakes and volcanoes). They were extremely
violent creatures in the ancient world. They were so powerful and strong that they were
considered to be gods by the Greeks, but in reality, they are various groups of demons. According to Greek mythology, individuals who rejected and angered the Greek gods had
to go to Tartarus to be ruled by the gods there.
To understand something about the time in which Noah lived and became
a mature believer, it is important to note some of the history regarding Greek mythology. Some of the most popular events in Greek mythology were the Titan wars, battles that
took place in the ancient world between the children of Uranus (heaven) and Gaea
(earth). Uranus and Gaea had three categories of children: 1) The Titans are the
personification of the convulsions of the physical world; e.g., volcanoes and earthquakes,
these were the great and violent creatures already mentioned. 2) Children that were
called Cyclops, they were one­eyed giants, and in the Greek are called Arges, Brontes, and Steropes. 3) Children that are called the hundred­handed monsters, also composed of
three beings. These were also what Gen 6:4 calls the Nephilim and the Mighty men of
renown. Uranus, their father, feared the hundred­handed monsters, so he put them in
Tartarus. Their mother, Gaea, was indignant, and called on her older children, the Titans,
for help, but only one would; he was called Chronos, meaning time or chronology. Chronos attacked his father and became the ruler of heaven and earth, and from this came
the core of demons which are called sons of the gods. Chronos married his sister Rhea, and they had six children, three boys and three girls. The girls were named Vesta, Series, and Juno, the boys were called Pluto (Hades), Neptune, and Jupiter (Zeus). Zeus was
considered the chief deity of the pantheon, a sky and weather god, who was identical with
the Roman god Jupiter. Zeus was regarded as the father, ruler and protector of both gods
and men. In fact, Zeus is mentioned in Act 14, a verse that has as its background the
story of a young couple in love, Bacchus and Philemon, who were supposedly turned into
two trees in front of the temple to Zeus because of their love for each other. Act 14:8­15
And at Lystra there was sitting a certain man, without strength in his feet, lame from his
mother's womb, who had never walked. This man was listening to Paul as he spoke, who,
when he had fixed his gaze upon him, and had seen that he had faith to be made well,
said with a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he leaped up and {began} to
walk. And when the multitudes saw what Paul had done, they raised their voice, saying
in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have become like men and have come down to us. And they {began} calling Barnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes [known as a messenger of
the gods], because he was the chief speaker. And the priest of Zeus, whose {temple} was
just outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and wanted to offer sacrifice
with the crowds. But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they tore their
robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out and saying, “Men, why are you doing
these things? We are also men of the same nature as you, and preach the gospel to you in
order that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven
and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them.” Notice that even in the early church
the belief in the sons of the gods was prevalent). Chronos had learned that he would be dethroned by one of his own
children, and so he swallowed each child when it was born. When he got to the sixth
one, however, his mother fooled him and gave him a stone in swaddling clothes to eat
and concealed Jupiter (Zeus in Greek) on the island of Crete. When Zeus grew up, he
made war with his father, Chronos, and all of the Titans sided with his father except for
one named Oceanus. Jupiter or Zeus, his brothers and sisters fought against Chronos, and
Zeus won the war when he went to Tartarus and released the hundred­handed monsters.
Remember that at this time there was no need for Tartarus to be the abode and prison for
the angels. Tartarus did not become a prison until after the flood. Therefore, these super­
creatures, who were really fallen angels, also had access into the underworld. As a result
of winning the war, Zeus and his brothers and sisters made Mount Olympus their capital. From then on, the story of Greek mythology is about the empire of Zeus (Jupiter), who
became the god­ruler of the world to the Greeks. Zeus gave to his brother Neptune the
kingdom of the sea after they won the war. Zeus then gave to his brother Pluto (in the
Greek Hades) the kingdom of the underworld. The Titans who were defeated were sent
to Tartarus. In the empire of Zeus, from Mount Olympus, there was the beginning of a
series of incidents found in both myths and scripture. In Gen 6:1­13, which we are about
to study, the Biblical story is completely accurate. The myths that came out of this are
simply distortions of that truth. The war between the Titans and Zeus, and the
imprisonment of the Titans in Tartarus, is a representation of God’s dealings with beni ha
elohim, the sons of the gods. The males represented by beni ha elohim, translated the
sons of the gods actually refer to demons like Zeus (Jupiter). These demons had bodies, which they used to seduce and impregnate females of the human race during the
antediluvian period of history. Therefore, beni ha elohim included Zeus, Apollos, Neptune, and Pluto, which are actually all demon names. The sexual attack to destroy
true humanity on the earth and to prevent the First Advent of the humanity of Christ is
illustrated by one son of the gods: Zeus, who had several notable sexual encounters with
female members of the human race, initiating the genetic problem. Let’s note one
example of the genetic attack on the human race: Zeus is one of the beni ha elohim, he
seduced a woman from the daughters of men named Semele, who had a son half­angelic,
half­human, named Bacchus (Latin) or Dionysus (Greek). This became the source of one
of the greatest phallic cults of the ancient world. Dionysus was known as a god of wine
and ecstasy. Remember what the Bible says about other gods; Psa 96:5 For all the gods
of the peoples are demons. There is a second woman or daughter of men that Zeus
seduced, her name is Alchimine who had a half­human, half­angelic son called Heracles
in the Greek or Hercules in the Latin. Most of us are familiar with the legends
concerning Hercules. Remember that all of this occurred before the flood. Gen 6:11­13
gives us some insight into this, Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the
earth was filled with violence. And God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt;
for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth. Then God said to Noah, “the end of
all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and
behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth.” In Gen 7:17­23, we read, Then the
flood came upon the earth for forty days; and the water increased and lifted up the ark,
so that it rose above the earth. And the water prevailed and increased greatly upon the
earth; and the ark floated on the surface of the water. And the water prevailed more and
more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were
covered. The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. And
all flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every
swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; of all that was on the dry
land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. Thus He blotted out
every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping
things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah
was left, together with those that were with him in the ark.
By a third woman, or daughter of men, whom Zeus seduced, Danae, he
had a half­human, half­angelic son called Perseus. In fact, the original Persians of the
ancient world claimed their ancestry from Perseus. He was said to be able to fly and
defeat the sea monsters of the ancient world. Zeus seduced a fourth woman, Lyda by
whom he had four children, among them Castor and Pollux who were considered to be
gods and received sacrifices from sailors for favorable winds. Their image even appeared
on Roman coins. By a fifth woman, named Europa, from which we get the word Europe,
Zeus had three other sons: King Minos of Crete, King Rhadamanthus of the Cyclades
Islands, and Prince Sarpedon of Lycia, three leaders of the ancient world. Zeus seduced a
sixth woman, Electra, by whom he had Dardanus, from whom the Trojans claim their
origin. By a seventh woman, Niobe, he had Pelagius and Argus. Argus was said to have
eyes all over his body. By an eighth woman, Io, a beautiful Egyptian goddess, he had
Epaphus. By a ninth woman, Antiope, he had Amphion and Zeuthus, who built the walls
of Thebes. Finally, by a tenth woman, Aegena, he had a son named Aeetes, who is the
ancestor of both Achilles and another son, Ajax. These half­human and half­demonic creatures had superb strength and
super intellect, and they were the Greek heroes of antediluvian times. The Nephalim
included creatures of great power and intellect, and it is important to remember the time
in which Noah lived was filled with their violence.
Satan’s Strategy
Having explored Greek mythology, we are ready to note the strategy of Satan in the
antediluvian civilization. We know that ultimately Satan's goal was to destroy true
humanity on earth so that TLJC could not be born as a member of the human race.
Satan's plan was based upon appealing to the needs and desires of the members of the
human race, he therefore promoted the phallic cult as a part of his deception. The phallic
cult was a very vital part of the worship of the sons of the gods because it was the basis
for sexual activity and the perversion of true humanity. The phallic cult is a religion that
is based upon the worship of the male phallus and promotes various types of sexual
activity as stated in 2Co 12:21; Eph 4:19, 5:5, 3:5; Rev 2:14, 20­23. It is related to
demonism, therefore, it was forbidden by God to Israel in Ex 20:3, 23, 23:24; Deu 4:28,
5:7, 6:14, 7:16, 8:19. This prohibition was because no nation ever survives the spread of
the phallic cult. Idolatry, or the worship of false gods, motivates the entire realm of
sexual sins, and is related to the phallic cult in Eze 22:3­18, 23:37­39. The phallic cult includes the following practices, and this will explain the
influence of the phallic cult upon our society today and reveal some of the things that
Noah had to deal with: · Immorality of all kinds, fornication, cultic prostitu tion, homosexuality, etc. (Lev 18:3­25). · Idolatry including human sacrifice (Lev 20:1­5). Ec statics
were used in the ancient world, and the phallic cult reached its climax with
human sacrifice. In other words, emotion was very important for the perpetua
tion of the phallic cult, or excessive sexual activity. · Frenzied group sex (Lev 20:1­5). · Demonism (Lev 20:6). · Rejection of authority (Lev 20:9). · Spiritual, social, cultural degeneracy (Lev 20:10­23). Bestiality and incest Lev 20:14­21. · Masturbation (Deu 12:29­31). · Merchandising feminine beauty, which refers to re vealing
certain parts of the female body to what Eze 16:15 calls every passer­by
who might be willing. · Excessive use of alcohol and the promotion of nudity among
the sexes (Hab 2:15­16). So, is the phallic cult still around today? To answer this, let’s first define
the word cult using Webster's New Twentieth Century Dictionary, Second Edition. A cult
means devoted attachment to, or extravagant admiration for a person, principle, or thing.
The Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary says a cult is a great devotion to a
person, idea, or thing, (especially), such devotion regarded as literary or intellectual fad
or mania. Therefore, as you can see, a cult is not necessarily devotion to a god as such, but can also be devotion to an idea; especially one set up by Satan, the god of this world.
Remember that Satan knows the human race better than we know
ourselves, and he knows that one of the most basic needs in the human race is the need to
be loved, appreciated and wanted. Unfortunately, this is where the kingdom of darkness
has done its best to deceive Christians. One of the main reasons that the phallic cult is still around today, although it is
not titled the phallic cult, is because most individuals do not understand the difference
between natural desires and lusts. In Eph 4:17­22, the apostle Paul says, “This I say
therefore, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles
also walk, in the futility of their mind. Being darkened in their understanding, excluded
from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of
their heart; And they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality,
for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. But you did not learn Christ in
this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth or
doctrine is in Jesus, that, in reference to your former manner of life [your old lifestyle
before your commitment to truth], you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in
accordance with the lusts of deceit. Notice the phrase, the lusts of deceit. Paul is actually
telling us about the influences that are driving and urging the old self in us toward
destruction, and he calls these influences lusts. Lust is the Greek noun epithumia, the
word itself actually means a strong or an overpowering desire for something. Remember
what our Lord said just before His death in Luk 22:15, “I have earnestly desired to eat
this passover with you before I suffer.” The Greek word for earnestly desired is the same
word that is used elsewhere for lust, it means a driving desire, whether good or bad.
Let’s look at some more passages to prove this point: Mat 5:28 “But I say to you, that
everyone who looks on a woman to lust [epithumia] for her has committed adultery with
her already in his heart.” Mat 13:17 “For truly I say to you, that many prophets and
righteous men desired [epithumia] to see what you see, and did not see it; and to hear
what you hear, and did not hear it.” 1Co 10:6 Now these things happened as examples
for us, that we should not lust [epithumia] for evil things, as they also lusted [epithumia].
1Ti 3:1 It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to [epithumia] the office of
overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. Jam 4:2 You lust [epithumia] and do not
have; so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and
quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. Notice that in these passages epithumia
can mean lust or desire depending on, not what it is directed towards, but how it is
directed toward those things. The kingdom of darkness, with its tremendous organized
plan, appeals to the needs and desires of people to distract them from the PPOG for their
life. When we think of lust, we don't think of it as it is defined in the dictionary. It is true
that lust can mean lasciviousness or an illicit, uncontrolled, overwhelming desire that
originates from the old sin nature. However, the dictionary defines lust also as a pleasure
or delight. It can also mean an intense longing or craving for something. Lust has come
to mean something almost entirely and exclusively bad, and there is a good reason for
that because the overpowering desires of most people are evil. However, there is a
difference between the legitimate desires and needs that a person has and the different
lusts that are destroying many individuals inwardly. All of us have natural instincts, however, we are admonished in Col 3:5, Render
impotent therefore the members of your earthly body [such as your eyes, ears, feet, hands, etc.] as dead to immorality [sexual activity outside of marriage] impurity [abnormal
sexual activity], passion [abnormal sex lust], evil desire [an illicit, uncontrolled,
overwhelming desire for sex], and greed [an insatiable appetite or craving for sexual
activity], (and then a very shocking statement) which keeps on amounting to idolatry [or
the worship of idols or demons]. This verse is a reference to the phallic reversionism, which had hit Colosse. One of the main reasons that Paul said that involvement in these
different forms of sexual sins was a form of worship toward idols or demons is simply
because Satan knows the human race better than we know ours elves. In our society
today, sex has become an idol!
The word idolatry has two meanings: 1) The worship of a physical object
or objects as God. 2) Inordinate attachment or extreme devotion to something. The
second meaning, of course, would be more applicable in our day and age. An idol is
actually defined as an object of extreme devotion; hence, it could be almost anything in a
person's life. What needs to be noted is this, there is a difference between the legitimate
desires and needs that a person has and the different lusts that are destroying many
individuals inwardly. As previously noted, all of us have natural instincts such as hunger,
sex, survival, self­defense, and these are not wrong in and of themselves. All these
instincts belong to our human nature, and there is nothing wrong with natural instincts. It
is God who has put these natural instincts into man, including the instinct for sex, and a
need to be loved. These instincts have been given to man for the enjoyment and the
preservation of life. No one knows this better than the god of this world, Satan,
throughout human history, he has taken that which God has designed for pleasure and
distorted and perverted it. God made man perfect, and a part of that perfection is
revealed in the fact that his various instincts were arranged by God for man’s good, and
for his enjoyment of life. However, these instincts were meant to be under the control of
the mind. God's will was that man should have dominion and control over his natural
instincts. The mind alone is not enough, God also gave man a conscience which is higher
than the mind and gives instructions to the mind.
Man having been made in the image of God, and having a conscience, was
meant in turn to be controlled by God Himself, and so for a man or woman to say that
there's something inherently wrong with these instincts is to deny the scripture. There
have been some in the church who have said that sex is sinful, however, there is nothing
wrong with sexual desires, and to say that sex is sinful is to say that God put evil into
man, but, our instincts must be under authority, they must be governed and controlled.
When that which is meant to be controlled takes charge and governs life, then there is
chaos. This is one of the reasons that the cosmic system appeals to man’s desire for sex. The antediluvian civilization in the ancient world was one ruled by chaos and lust. So, lust simply means that affection or an instinct is taking charge of us and
governing us, and therefore the mind is being silenced, the conscience is being ignored!
When this happens, the state of man is one of chaos and confusion. In fact, the Bible
calls this inordinate affection. There is nothing wrong with the affections implanted in
man, but they must never become inordinate. In fact, all the trouble in the world has its
roots in lust. It's the one thing that is responsible for all our troubles as individuals in
marriage, relationships, families, in fact all areas of life. Evil desires are in control while
reason and understanding have been pushed aside. Therefore, the decay and the steady
movement toward destruction is simply the dominance of lust controlling the individual. Lust turned the inhabitants of the antediluvian civilization into animals. Satan knows that
lust is an effective tool so he uses Hollywood and other elements of the cosmic system to
make sure that lust is employed today. You may ask what is it that controls the lusts? Paul says it is deceit. Eph 4:22
“that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being
corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit.” In other words, the ultimate and
controlling power in man is deceit, and it is deceit that manipulates the lust. Deceit was
protocol in the antediluvian civilization, not only were members of the human race filled
with lust and deceit during the antediluvian civilization, but the sons of the gods were as
well.
The Context of the Antediluvian Civilization
Having noted some principles found in Greek mythology we are ready for
some biblical detail concerning the beni ha elohim or the sons of the gods. Gen 6:1 Now it came about, when men [humanity] began to multiply on
the face of the land, and daughters were born to them. This is a description of a
tremendous population explosion on planet earth, and the ratio of women to men in this
population was excessive, and the increase of the population also meant there were more
sin natures on earth. More sin natures equals more evil, lawlessness, and more violence
on the earth. In the antediluvian civilization there was little law and order, it was the
survival of the fittest. Yet, true freedom means having the right to make certain decisions
within the constraints of the laws of divine establishment. Without such constraints,
there are too many options for the sin nature, and a tremendous amount of violence on the
earth. While there was no establishment, there was culture, in fact, one of the greatest
cultures of all time. When you live to be over 800 years old, you have a lot of time to
practice music, art, and writing. However, the evil and wickedness was so great on the
earth that by the tenth generation from Adam, only one family remained in the status of
regeneration. That one family applied doctrine as a means of avoiding any sexual
relationship with half­human, half­angelic creatures. These eight were Noah and his family, the ninth believer was Noah's grandfather,
Methuselah, who died after warning of the coming of the flood. The concentration of
evil on the earth was great, yet it did not destroy the human race. Christians are often
distressed and upset about the evil and the wickedness in life and they get distracted from
fulfilling God's plan for their life. In reality, a great concentration of evil never destroys
the population of the earth, this is because Jesus Christ, not mankind, controls history. By the tenth generation from Adam there was no reference to the Sethites or
Cainites as separate families and tribes, this is illustrated by the marriage of Naamah to
Ham. The Cainite line was disillusioned by the study of science, culture, urban society, and had rejected the happiness that God had designed for man, they had rejected Christ as
Savior. Therefore, the antediluvian population was largely unregenerate, reversionistic,
and involved in the cosmic system. Gen 6:1­2 Now it came about, when men [humanity] began to multiply on the
face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of the gods [fallen
angels] saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took or seized wives for
themselves, whomever they chose.
Let’s look at some other translations to prove what we have been noting. The
English translation of the Torah says, the divine beings saw how beautiful the daughters
of men were and took wives from among them. The New American Bible calls beni ha
elohim the sons of heaven. The Moffat translation says, the angels noticed that the
daughters of men were beautiful. The American translation says, the sons of the gods
noticed that the daughters of men were attractive. Gen 6:2 Now the sons of the gods [demon pantheons on Mount Olympus] saw the
women of mankind, that they were beautiful, so they seized [and in some cases even
raped] for themselves women from all they had selected [whomever they chose]. The
sons of the gods is clearly a reference to angelic creatures. The Hebrew beni ha elohim is
used for angelic creatures only. Beni is translated sons, whereas ha should be translated
the, and then elohim is in the plural and it is generally used for God when all three
members of the Trinity are in view. However, it can also be used for gods, which is the
expression of many gods, false gods. That's exactly how we translate elohim, the im
means it is the plural form. Since we are in the book of Genesis let's note some passages
in which elohim is translated gods. Gen 31:30 “And now you have indeed gone away
because you longed greatly for your father's house; {but} why did you steal my gods?”
Gen 31:32 “The one with whom you find your gods shall not live; in the presence of our
kinsmen point out what is yours among my belongings and take {it} for yourself.” For
Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.
Gen 35:2, So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the
foreign gods which are among you, and purify yourselves, and change your garments;” Gen 35:4 So they gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which they had, and the rings which
were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was near Shechem.
Back in Gen 6:1­2 Now it came about, when humanity began to multiply on the
face of the land, and daughters were born to them, Now the sons of the gods [demon
pantheon on Mount Olympus] saw the women of mankind, that they were beautiful, so
they seized [took and even raped] for themselves women from all they had selected
[whomever they chose]. When the word beautiful is used in the scripture, it means that
these women were extremely beautiful. So the angels, seized for themselves women. The
Hebrew verb laqach means to seize violently, to take by sheer strength, to overpower and
seize these women. In many cases, the angels forced the women to have sex with them. Gen 6:3 Then the Lord [God the Father] said, “My spirit [Holy Spirit] shall not
strive or plead the cause of God in man's soul forever, for in his going astray, he is flesh
[mortal]. Therefore, his days will be one hundred and twenty years.” This verse refers to
the antediluvian ministry of the Holy Spirit. One of the greatest periods of evangelism in
all of history resulted in untold numbers of people hearing the Gospel, and yet only eight
converts. So, from the time of Gen 6:3 to the time of the flood, there was an elapse of
120 years. Only the eight human beings mentioned previously believed in Jesus Christ. The half­human, half­angelic creatures heard the gospel as well, and could have believed
in Christ and saved their human side, but none of them ever did (and there were millions
of them). We know this for two reasons: First, because God is just, and the justice of
God would never send any creature to the eternal Lake of Fire without ample chance to
believe on TLJC. Secondly, God gave the inhabitants of the world 120 years to repent.
He wouldn't have done that unless there was some way for them to be saved. Time is the
only chance you have for eternal life, you can only make a decision in time to believe in
Jesus Christ. So, evangelism continued for 120 years in the antediluvian civilization before the
flood came and destroyed the earth after the last opportunity for the ministry of God the
Holy Spirit, in common and efficacious grace, was extended. The grace policy of God
never executes judgment on mankind until every grace opportunity has been given to
believe. From the time of the angelic infiltration and the genetic attack on true humanity,
to the flood, there were 120 years of gospel preaching. In 120 years, half­human, half­ demonic people would corrupt the entire human race. By the grace of God, the true
humanity of Christ would be born as a descendant of Shem, one of the eight survivors of
the flood. Jesus Christ controls history and it was necessary to wipe out the evil, but first, evil had to have an opportunity to repent. The trouble with many Christians is that they
do not know that the most powerful weapon, the most enduring weapon in human history
is the Gospel. The power of God unto salvation is the Gospel, and not a pleasing
personality, not a dog and pony show, not a church filled with gimmicks and games. Rom 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation
to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” 1Co 1:18 For the word
[or the doctrine concerning] the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us
who are being saved it is the power of God. We need to communicate the Gospel to evil
people, they have a right to hear truth so that they can accept it or reject it. As 1Pe 3:11
says, And let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. Our
responsibility is to make the Gospel clear even to those influenced by evil. Our
responsibility is to make the issue clear, and not to try and force people to make a
decision for Christ. Gen 6:3 says, Then Jehovah [God the Father] said, “My Spirit [Holy Spirit] will
not always plead the cause of God in man's soul forever, for in his going astray, he is
flesh [mortal]. Therefore, his days will be one hundred and twenty years.” In verse 4,
the antediluvian super­race is mentioned. Gen 6:4 The Nephilim [the fallen ones or the
fallen angels who followed Satan] were on the earth in those days, and also afterward,
when the sons of the gods [like Zeus, Neptune, Pluto] came in to the daughters of men,
and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of
renown. The phrase The Nephilim is Ha nephalim referring to the fallen ones, the half­ human half­demon creatures. Notice that there are three categories of creatures
mentioned. Ha adam is true humanity, Gen 6:1 Now it came about, when men [ha adam]
began to multiply on the face of the land. Then, we have beni ha elohim (verses 2,4) who
are angels with bodies. Then, the ha nephalim are mentioned, these are the progeny of
the first two combined, i.e., half­human, half­angelic creatures. If you have a body and
you are in a certain genus and you copulate with someone else who has a body, and one
is male and one is female, there is every possibility that there will be a creature coming
from the womb of the female. The trouble with most individuals is that they think of
angels with a halo around their head, or as spirits without bodies. However, when you
talk about spirits without bodies, you're talking about demons as they are now, after the
flood. But, here we are talking about the antediluvian civilization before the flood and
angelic creatures did have bodies, they were super creatures biologically. As we have
noted, it was a totally different civilization than what we have today, just as there will be
a totally different civilization in the Millennium. It is clearly delineated in the Bible,
written by men who were inspired by the ministry of the Holy Spirit, that these angels
had sex! We know from Gen 6:4 that, The Nephilim [fallen ones] were on the earth in
those days [they had bodies and they actually operated on the earth]. And also afterward,
when the sons of the gods [the fallen angels like Zeus and Apollos] came in to the
daughters of men. The Bible states that, the sons of the gods came in to the daughters of
men. The verb came in to is the kal future of bo which is used for sexual relationships;
the word bo means to have sex. Since we are in the book of Genesis let’s prove that the verb bo means to have
sex. Gen 39:7­17 And it came about after these events that his master's wife looked with
desire at Joseph, and she said, “lie with me.” [have sex with me]! But he refused and
said to his master's wife, “behold, with me here, my master does not concern himself with
anything in the house, and he has put all that he owns in my charge. “There is no one
greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because
you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil, and sin against God?” And it came
about as she spoke to Joseph day after day, that he did not listen to her to lie beside her, or be with her. Now it happened one day that he went into the house to do his work, and
none of the men of the household was there inside. And she caught him by his garment,
saying, “lie with me!” and he left his garment in her hand and fled, and went outside.
When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had fled outside, she called to
the men of her household, and said to them, “see, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to
make sport of us; he came in to me [the verb is bo] to have sex with me, and I screamed.
And it came about when he heard that I raised my voice and screamed, that he left his
garment beside me and fled, and went outside.” So she left his garment beside her until
his master came home. Then she spoke to him with these words, “the Hebrew slave,
whom you brought to us, came in to me [bo again] to make sport of me;
The Bible says that the beni ha elohim had sex. Someone might ask about the
verse referencing the resurrection in the Bible in Mat 22:30, In the resurrection they
neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. The Bible does
say that, but all angels are male, there are no female angels. To be clear, in verse 1, we
have the human race referred to in the Hebrew phrase ha adam which means true
humanity. Gen 6:1 Now it came about, when [ha adam] men began to multiply on the
face of the land. In verse 2, we have beni ha elohim, which are angels with bodies, Gen
6:2 that the [beni ha elohim] the sons of the gods saw that the daughters of men were
beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. The result of their
sexual encounter, ha nephalim found in verse 4, are the progeny of the first two
combined, i.e., half­human, half­angelic creatures. Gen 6:4 The nephalim [fallen ones, half­human half­demon creatures] were on the earth in those days, and also afterward
when the sons of the gods [or the sons of the gods, demons] had sex with females of the
human race, and had children by them, these children were the heroes who, from ancient
history, were famous men. These are the Greek heroes of antediluvian times, and because
of the influence of these creatures, the genetic destruction of true humanity was highly
contagious and spreading throughout the entire world. The half­angelic, half­human
creatures possessed super intellect, super­strength so that violence and arrogance went
unrestrained. As a result of this demon attack, the fallen angels involved were confined
to Tartarus, the third compartment of Sheol or Hades. So, we have Gen 6:1­4 Now it came about, when men [humanity] began to
multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of the
gods [fallen angels] saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took [or
seized and in some cases raped] for themselves women from all they had selected
[whomever they chose]. Then the Lord [God the Father] said, “My spirit [Holy Spirit]
shall not strive or plead the cause of God in man's soul forever, for in his going astray,
he is flesh [mortal]. Therefore, his days will be one hundred and twenty years.”
Postdiluvian Fallen Angels
The demons that functioned in the postdiluvian civilization under the command
of Satan no longer have sexual capabilities; and so they are classified as disembodied
spirits. We must make the distinction between these fallen angels perfectly clear. In the
antediluvian civilization, the demons that invaded the earth had angelic bodies and these
demons were able to have sex with human females, resulting in the satanic attempt to
destroy true humanity on the earth. This infiltration would have succeeded if not for the
grace of God in the cataclysmic universal flood. Here is a principle that you should learn
concerning human history: Many times a great disaster happens and individuals wonder
why God allows such things, when in reality it is the grace of God at work preserving the
human race from self­destruction. So, in the antediluvian civilization, the demons that invaded the earth had angelic
bodies and sexual capabilities. In the postdiluvian civilization, all demons are
disembodied spirits, and therefore limited to demon possession, which is the demon
invasion of the human body and taking it over, and demon influence, which is the
infiltration of satanic or false doctrine into the human soul (as in 1Ti 4:1­2). Jud 6 tells
us what happened to the first category of demons that infiltrated the human race, And the
angels which kept not their status quo but abandoned their proper place of residence [in
the second heavens], He has guarded them in eternal chains under thick darkness for the
judgment of the great day. Tartarus is described as chains of thick darkness in all Greek
literature. These demons are mentioned again in 2Pe 2:4, For if God did not spare the
angels when they sinned [in Gen 6:2], but incarcerated them in pits of darkness [in
Tartarus], reserved for judgment.
Gen 6:5 is God’s evaluation of the nephalim period, Then the Lord saw that the
wickedness or the evil of man was great on the earth, and that every intent and motive of
the thoughts of his heart [right lobe] was only evil continually. The period between the
angelic infiltration and the flood, a period of 120 years according to Gen 6:3, was one
that had many unusual characteristics. For example, it was a period of the greatest music
in history; also it was a period of great violence. It was a period of great scientific
achievement, yet at the same time a period of great lawlessness. It was a civilization with
great academic achievement; there was also great immorality. Along with fantastic
luxury, there was great cruelty (similar to the Athenians later). The shocking nature of
this vicious and perverse cruelty is revealed in the Lord’s judgment of the period.
Gen 6:5­7 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth,
and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord
repented that he had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. And the
Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man
to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I repent that I have made them,”
Gen 6:11­13 Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with
violence. And God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had
corrupted their way upon the earth. Then God said to Noah, “the end of all flesh has
come before me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am
about to destroy them with the earth.” Notice the descriptions given about the earth in
this passage: Gen 6:5, the wickedness of man was great and every intent of the thoughts
of his heart was only evil continually. Verse 11, the earth was corrupt in the sight of
God, and the earth was filled with violence. In Verse 12, the earth was corrupt; all flesh
had corrupted their way upon the earth. In Verse 13, the earth is filled with violence. All of these phrases prove the perverse cruelty that took place on earth before the flood,
as we have previously noted.
So, again Gen 6:5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness or the evil of man was
great on the earth, and that every intent and motive of the thoughts of his heart [right
lobe] was only evil continually. Notice that they did a lot of thinking, but their thinking
was related to evil. There were three evil results of this genetic attack: Case history #1:
The sexual attack or demon influence on the personality and the social life of the
individual. Bacchus (Latin) or Dionysus (Greek) was the demon god who promoted the
phallic cult. He started the first sorority in history, and the women were called maenads
(which later became a word for sexual insanity or a madwoman). The women would
concentrate on drinking and dancing, which eventually led to illicit sexual activity. The
sorority emphasized emotion taking over the soul, and suppressing thinking which
blacked out reason. Hence, it included a demon penetration of the soul. The function of
the sorority was to seek total freedom, to give women more choices than they had ever
had in their homes under their parents and husbands, in other words, this was to free
women from authority. The function of the sorority was also to establish a total freedom
and escape from human limitations by entering into sexual orgies with demons. Hence,
the demon penetration of the mind or soul was followed by the demon penetration of the
female body. The maenads (meaning the mad­ones) not only abandoned themselves to
demons in a lustful frenzy, but they became extremely violent, often killing one another.
Along with sexual lust, there was tremendous killer lust (Remember that this is the
antediluvian history and today these demons with bodies are incarcerated either in
Tartarus or the Abyss). To portray this, let's take the illustration of King Pentheus of
Thebes (Greece) who became suspicious of three women in his household: his wife, his
mother, and his sister. One night after pretending to be asleep, he followed them as they
slipped out of the house and attended a meeting of the Dionysian [die­o­ny­sian] sorority. There he saw these women become involved in an orgy. King Pentheus couldn't stand it
any longer and went in to rebuke these three women, his wife, his mother and his sister.
He was immobilized by the expressions on their faces and his mother, sister and his wife,
clawed him to pieces with their hands while screaming and shouting. This was very
definitely a case of demon possession and demon attack upon the king of Thebes. This
emphasized the utter freedom of escaping human limitations by total communion with
demons in an ecstasy brought on either by alcohol, music, dancing or drugs, the four
systems that they used.
Case history #2: The demon influence on thought and politics, or the intellectual. This is the story of Apollo and the Oracle of Delphi. Apollo was the demon god of light
who was very much involved with the kingdom of darkness and with Satan himself. Apollo was one of the first champions of the angel of light principle from demons. He
was the champion of lucidity, or intellectuality. He was called the god of the sun. Apollo
represents the doctrine of demons found in 1Ti 4:1­2, as well as demonic thinking in
cosmic two. Apollo represents the intellectual departure from God, in contrast to
Bacchus (or Dionysus), which represents the emotional, orgiastic departure from God's
will. The Oracle of Delphi became a demon system for controlling the lives of famous
people and rulers of nations. Case history #3: The sensational; this is the deceit of miracle healing.
Mythologically, this pattern is related to Aesculapius, the demon god of healing.
Aesculapius was the progeny of Apollos and a human female called Coronas or Arseno,
therefore he was half angelic and half human. To understand how demon healing works, we must note one of Satan's great demon­princes: Beelzebub is the prince in charge of
covert warfare against the human race, he has charge of operation fake­healer, which is
Satan's plan to give demons and Satan's human servants credibility in the Christian
community. Satan's human deceivers include sorcerers who perform feats of
necromancy, exorcists, so­called divine healers, and people involved in signs from Satan,
including the actual reproduction of the gift of tongues. Remember that no one has
spoken in the legitimate gift of tongues since 70 AD. Beelzebub is the demon in charge
of the eggastromuthos demons who, when they possess the body of an unbeliever,
actually reproduce the gift of tongues as it occurred on the day of Pentecost, and for forty
years thereafter. Of course there is a lot of nonsense that Christians practice that is
not demon possession, but in many cases demon influence. Beelzebub, as the demon in
charge of undercover operations, sponsors activities to give credibility to Satan's human
servants. Satan's human servants are easily identified as people who allege to perform
miracles of healing. No one has been miraculously healed by a person since 96 A.D.
God occasionally will directly heal a person in response to prayer, however, the great
power in the post­canon period of the Church age is the power of the Word of God. Jesus
Christ only healed to give a hearing to His message. He did not heal every one in the
world! Beelzebub is the head of a great demon organization which practices miracles of
healing. Even the Pharisees knew that throughout human history Satan would use
miracles to try and deceive the human race. That's why they said what they did about our
Lord in Mat 12:22­24 Then there was brought to Him a demon­possessed man {who
was} blind and dumb, and He healed him, so that the dumb man spoke and saw. And all
the multitudes were amazed, and {began} to say, “This {man} cannot be the Son of
David, can he?” But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “This man casts out demons
only by Beelzebul the ruler of the demons.” When Beelzebub orders demons that are
causing illness out of a human body, there is instant healing of that body. There are three
categories of illness: First, Physiologically­induced illness is related to the functions of
the body. Secondly, Mentally­induced [psychosomatic] illness. Thirdly, Demon­induced
illness!
You will note that in Mat 12:24, Beelzebub the prince of the demons can order
other demons out; they claimed that TLJC was working for Beelzebub. Certain forms of
demon possession cause illness, and when the victim goes to a so­called divine healer
(who is working for Satan), Beelzebub orders the demons to withdraw meaning that there
is an instant and real cure. The people then think that the divine healer has great power
and must be from God, and then they listen to the false doctrine.
So in Gen 6:5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the
earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. This
saturation of evil was illustrated by violence, murder, rape, and human sacrifice.
The Lord Jesus Christ’s
Strategic Victory
Gen 6:6 And the Lord was sorry [or repented] that He had made man on the
earth, and He was grieved in His heart. The Hebrew word nacham translated to be
sorry, means to have a change of mind. It is the exact equivalent of the Greek word
metanoeo, which means to change one’s mind or way of thinking. This is an
anthropopathism, meaning that it ascribes to God human feelings, passions, and thoughts
which God does not actually possess; things like hatred, anger, scorn, benevolence, compassion, longsuffering, and repentance. To explain a divine policy, such a feeling or
thought is ascribed to God. Therefore, to describe a change of divine policy, repent is
used. Many times in history God has had to judge segments of the human race, and so
He changes His policy of grace to a policy of judgment, therefore the Bible says that He
repents. Gen 6:6 And the Lord repented that He had made man on the earth, and He
was grieved in His heart. A second anthropopathism is that God was grieved when in
reality nothing can make God grieve since His omniscience knew all things before they
happened. God's heart, or right lobe, is an anthropomorphism which ascribes to God a
part of human anatomy which God does not possess, again in order to express a divine
function. God would give 120 years to this half­human race, under the principle that
grace precedes judgment, at the end of that time, there would be a total destruction of the
human race apart from eight persons.
In 1Pe 3:18­22, we have a Winner, the only real winner in human history, the
One whose victory is more significant than any other in human history. Of course, we
are referring to our Lord Jesus Christ. The fact that He became a winner for us on the
cross is the reason that the resurrection of the Lord took place, and the reason that there is
eternal life for those who believe in Him. The Lord Jesus Christ won the strategic, or the
significant victory on the cross, and we have the privilege of winning the tactical victory
by advancing to spiritual maturity. The tactical victory refers to sharing in a part of the
strategic victory of our Lord. In other words, if we don't grow up spiritually we never
really share in the victory that our Lord won for us in time.
1Pe 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all. The Greek word for died
is an aorist active indicative of apothnesko which is epathen which means to die by
separation, a reference to our Lord's spiritual death on the cross, (2Co 5:21; 1Pe 2:24). He was separated from God the Father for three hours on the cross while He was being
judged for the sins of the entire world. This is why He cried out in Mat 27:46 “Eli, Eli,
lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” He was
being forsaken by God the Father because God the Father was judging Him for the sins of
the entire world, and He was being forsaken so that we would never be. Heb 13:5 For
He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.”
So in 1Pe 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all [one sacrifice paid the
price for every single one of your sins], the just for the unjust, or the righteous one as a
substitute for the unrighteous ones. [This broke the back of Satan as far as the angelic
conflict is concerned], in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death
in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit. During the entire time that He was on the cross,
the Lord Jesus Christ remained impeccable, although He underwent the greatest
temptations anyone will ever face. He was the lamb without spot and without blemish.
He continued residing inside of the plan of God for His life during those three hours of
the most intense suffering to ever exist in human history. The people who were gathered
around the cross were generally there to mock and sneer at the Lord. They were brutal, and they ridiculed Him in every way possible. They told Him to come down from the
cross while they were maligning Him and mocking Him. All of this while every sin in
human history was being imputed to Him by God the Father!
Again, 1Pe 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous one as
a substitute for the unrighteous ones in order that He might bring us to God. The Greek
preposition huper plus the genitive plural of advantage, adikon should be translated the
righteous one as a substitute for the unrighteous ones, referring to us all. The Greek
noun adikon translated unrighteous ones includes both moral and immoral degeneracy, everything that makes up our failures when we're under the control of the old sin nature.
The phrase, in order that introduces a purpose clause or the purpose of the cross, He
might bring us to God which means face to face with God. Sinful man is brought face to
face with God with perfect righteousness because of the work of Jesus Christ on the
cross. The phrase, might bring us is the aorist active subjunctive of the Greek verb
prosago, which is prosagage, meaning to bring us near, or to present us, where pros
means face to face and ago means to bring. We are brought face to face with God
because of Jesus Christ making us perfectly righteous. If you have personally believed in
Jesus Christ, you have been brought to God. The Lord Jesus Christ is the only One who
can bring us to God and give us eternal life.
1Pe 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous one as a
substitute for the unrighteous ones, in order that He might bring us to God, having been
put to death in the flesh. Remember that the entire satanic plot was an attempt to keep
Jesus Christ from being put to death in the flesh. Notice that it says, that He might bring
us to God, having been put to death in the flesh! We have been studying how Satan tried
to keep Jesus Christ from coming in the flesh! The whole system of Greek mythology, of
Greek culture was built around that concept. The rest of this passage explains what
happened to our Lord's soul between the phrases having been put to death in the flesh and
but made alive by means of the Spirit. Under the custodianship of God the Holy Spirit, our Lord not only went to
Paradise, but He also visited Tartarus, that third compartment of Hades, where the angels
who were involved in Gen 6 are in prison. They are angels who had not observed the
cross, at which their leader Satan was defeated, so they still entertained hopes that Satan
would keep Christ from the cross. During our Lord's visit, He gave His victorious
proclamation. 1Pe 3:19 in which Spirit [or by means of Whom, God the Holy Spirit], also He
went [passive voice i.e. received transportation] and made proclamation to the spirits
now in prison. Notice the phrase the spirits now in prison, these are the beni ha elohim or
the sons of the gods of Gen 6:1. The phrase made proclamation means that He
proclaimed certain doctrines and informed those demons in prison that they had failed
and that God's plan was perfect. By means of God the Holy Spirit, our Lord made this
dramatic visit to Tartarus. In 1Pe 3:20 we read Who once were disobedient. Who is the
Greek relative pronoun which refers to the sons of the gods, beni ha elohim, who are in
prison now in Tartarus.
Victory in Christ
As we have noted, every one of the nephalim, the half­angelic, half human
beings had a chance to believe in Christ, and every one of them said no. In the vacuum
of their souls, they continued to worship the gods of Mount Olympus, who were not gods
at all, but demons. 1Pe 3:20 who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in
the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight
persons, were brought safely through the water. God kept waiting under the principle
that grace always precedes judgment. The Greek word for Noah's ark is kibotou, which
refers to a treasure chest, or a wooden ship, which was constructed of gopher or cyprus
wood, used because it is a light, but tough wood. At the time the ark was built, there had
never been a ship in the history of the human race. The ark was [300 cubits] 450 feet
long [that's one and a half football fields], seventy­five feet wide, and forty­five feet high.
It was constructed of one material, gopher wood, representing the humanity of Christ. Christ became true humanity to propitiate, or satisfy, the demands of God the Father so
that mankind could be rightly related to the justice of God.
The analogy here is that Jesus Christ is the ark, He is the treasure chest, He is
described as the One in Whom all the treasures of God exists. Col 2:3 In Whom [Jesus
Christ] are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Those who were not on
the ark represent those who do not believe in Jesus Christ, and they are destroyed. The
bulkheads were secured with pitch or asphalt, the pitch is analogous to the work of Christ
on the cross, it keeps out the waters of divine judgment. The pitch is also like doctrine
that keeps us adjusted to the justice of God. In the building of the ark, only one set of
plans was used. The ratio and dimensions of the ark made it completely seaworthy. The
principle is that only the plan of God has stability, it is the only plan that will work.
There was only one door in the ark, analogous to the fact that there is only one way to
adjust to the justice of God, and that is through TLJC who said in Joh 10:9, “I am the
door; if anyone enters through Me, he shall be saved.” There was also only one window on the ark, analogous to the fact there is only
one objective after salvation, that is to reach spiritual maturity, and there is only one
perspective, divine viewpoint, Bible doctrine. There were three floors to the ark, which
for us represent the concept of progress after salvation, Spiritual Self Esteem (SSE), Spiritual Autonomy (SA), Spiritual Maturity (SM). There is only one place of security in
time of disaster, of course that is inside the ark. The ark represents to us the principle of
eternal security, being in union with Christ. It is interesting to note that all the believers
inside the ark were not mature believers, but they were blessed by association. There was
no judgment to those in the ark because Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no
condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 1Pe 3:20 Who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting
in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight
persons, were brought safely through the water. This is not a reference to water baptism, or baptismal regeneration, because those who went under the water were destroyed. The
water that drowned the unbelieving world was also used to deliver the eight souls who
were believers and true humanity. Water was an instrument of destruction for
unbelievers, but physical deliverance for believers. 1Pe 3:21 And corresponding to that, baptism now saves you­­ not the removal
of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience through the
resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the Church­age, every believer is in union with Christ, and we are preserved forever by our relationship with Christ. Remember that Christianity
is a relationship, not a religion. The phrase, corresponding to that is antitupon, which
means a copy or a representation of something. Actually it is a representation of the
baptism of the Holy Spirit. This we know from the next phrase, 1Pe 3:21 And
corresponding to that or which also is an antitype of the baptism which now saves you.
The baptism which now saves us is the baptism of the Spirit, not water baptism. Eph 4:5
There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism. At the moment of our salvation, the baptism
of the Spirit made us members of the Royal Family of God. Each member of Noah's
family in the ark is analogous to the believer who is union with the person of Jesus
Christ. Union with Christ delivers each member of the Royal Family of God from any
form of divine judgment. To assure water baptism is not confused with the spiritual
baptism, we have a phrase, not the removal of dirt from the flesh [not water], but an
appeal to God for a good conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Those eight souls were a type or copy of what happens to us in the baptism of
the Holy Spirit. For they were delivered from the catastrophe of the flood by being inside
the ark, just as we are delivered from the lake of fire by being in union with Christ, due to
the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Just as they were safe in the ark, so we are safe in union
with Christ. Notice that last phrase, but an appeal to God for a good conscience through
the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Your conscience was delivered at the moment you
believed in Jesus Christ as Savior, when God the Holy Spirit entered you into union with
the person of Jesus Christ, making you Royal Family of God, and a new spiritual species. 1Pe 3:22 “Who [Jesus Christ] is at the right hand of God [the Father], having ascended
into heaven after angels and authorities and powers had been subordinated to Him.” When Jesus Christ ascended, He was seated at the right hand of God the
Father and received His third title, King of kings and Lord of lords. Since Jesus Christ
ascended, He is now higher than all angels in a human body! When our Lord Jesus
Christ went to the fallen angels of Gen 6 in Tartarus, He announced to them a victorious
proclamation, that they had not succeeded in their great attempt to prevent Him from
coming in the flesh as true humanity. The Holy Spirit transferred our Lord from Paradise
to Tartarus, to make this proclamation. He announced that He had come into the world as
true humanity. Then our Lord gave those demons an entire dissertation on the
dispensation of the hypostatic union, and how He had been judged for the sins of the
world. He told them that their plot had failed, for true humanity had remained on the
earth with Noah and his family. Notice what 1Pe 3:21 says again, And corresponding to that [Noah's ark and
the deliverance by being in it], baptism [of the Spirit] now saves you not the removal of
dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience through the resurrection
of Jesus Christ. Resurrection is far greater than we can imagine, for in resurrection, God
makes no distinction between those who completely fail to execute the Christian way of
life, and those who succeed in executing the Christian way of life. The resurrection has
nothing to do with our winning the tactical victory in the angelic conflict, or failing to do
so, but has everything to do with Who and What the Lord is. It is the Lord's victory, not
the believer's victory. The believer's victory is the execution of the PPOG in time. God's
victory is the death and resurrection of the believer. 1Co 15:57 says but thanks be to
God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Notice that this is a victory
that God gives to us, it's not a victory we earn! You can earn a victory by becoming a
mature believer, by executing the PPOG, but there's one victory you cannot have; it's a
gift: The resurrection body. Therefore, following are seven principles concerning
resurrection:
1. The resurrection body is a monument to God's victory. This victory illustrates
grace. The believer's resurrection is God's grace and God's victory. This is
another reason why no Old Testament believer was resurrected. Until our Lord
went to the cross and achieved the strategic victory, no one could be resurrected.
He could not be resurrected until He became true humanity at the virgin birth. In
other words, God could not give a victory that had not yet been attained.
2. Jesus Christ died physically on the cross, was resurrected by the omnipotence of
God the Father and omnipotence of the Holy Spirit, ascended, and sat at the
Father's right hand. At that point, the victory was completed. That was the
strategic victory of the angelic conflict!
3. The power that resurrected Christ was made possible for every believer, Eph 1:20
which power He put into operation by means of Christ when He [God the Father]
raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand.
4. The resurrection of Christ is part of His strategic victory of the angelic conflict, 1Co 15:20­25. 5. The resurrection of Christ indicates the completion of the ministry of justification, Rom 4:25. Christ was raised because of our justification. We are justified,
therefore Christ had to be raised. Because justification was completed on the
Cross, the Father was free to resurrect Christ. Rom 4:25 He who was delivered
up because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification. 6. The resurrection of Christ is the basis for the believer's confidence in the future,
1Pe 1:3­5, 21; Phi 3:21. 7. Resurrection is totally the work of God provided for all believers, whether they
are winners or losers.
The Divine Authority Structure
Gen 6:1­4 Now it came about, when men [humanity] began to multiply on
the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of the gods
[fallen angels] saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took [or
seized and in some cases raped] for themselves women from all they had
selected [whomever they chose].” Then the Lord [God the Father] said, “My spirit
[Holy Spirit] shall not strive or plead the cause of God in man's soul forever, for in
his going astray, he is flesh [mortal]. Therefore, his days will be one hundred and
twenty years.'“ The Nephilim [fallen ones, half­angel, half human] were on the
earth in those days and also afterward, when the sons of the gods [the fallen
angels like Zeus and Apollos] had sex with females of the human race, and had
children by them, these children were the heroes who, from ancient history, were
famous men.”
In Gen 6:5­6 we have the divine evaluation of the nephalim period. Gen 6:5
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness or the evil of man was great on the earth, and that
every intent and motive of the thoughts of his heart [right lobe] was only evil continually.
And the Lord repented that he had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His
heart.
After the 120 years of warning, there would be a total destruction of the human race
excepting the eight persons on the ark. The divine decision regarding the antediluvian
civilization follows. Gen 6:7 And the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the
face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I
have changed my policy with those whom I've created.” All animals, reptiles and birds
were to be destroyed, except for those preserved in the ark. The saturation of evil on the
earth was so great that the human race had reached a point of total self­destruction. This
was a part of the satanic plot to destroy true humanity on the earth so that Jesus Christ
could not come in the flesh. Only as perfect true humanity could Jesus Christ come and
be judged for our sins. So, to protect the remnant of believers, God had to destroy the
antediluvian civilization. This divine decision was totally compatible with God's grace
policy, which is extended to us today. The only way that God could keep His divine
promise that there would be a Savior (and that whosoever believes in Him will never
perish but have eternal life) was by destroying the corrupted part of the human race so
that only true humanity would be preserved beyond the great catastrophe of a universal
flood.
Noah and his family were the last human beings who had not been corrupted
by the angelic infiltration that produced the nephalim. There had to be a line of true
humanity which extended from Noah to the true humanity of Jesus Christ. This explains
the necessity to destroy the antediluvian population, which was predominantly a super
race of half­angelic, half human beings during Noah’s days. Gen 6:8 Then Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. The eyes are an
anthropomorphism, ascribing to God human anatomy, which He does not possess, to
express in human language a concept we can understand. Noah and his family were both
genuine human race, and regenerate human race. They had personally believed in Jesus
Christ as He was revealed in the great evangelistic push in that dispensation. The
Hebrew word for found is the kal perfect of the verb matsa which means to attain, to
arrive at something, to reach or to acquire. Therefore, it should read Gen 6:8 But Noah
acquired grace in the eyes of the Lord. This refers to the maturity factor of Noah, who
used grace to attain and acquire more grace! Beginning in verse 9, we have a reference
to Noah. Here was a man who controlled his family and at the same time became a
mature believer. One of the signs of manhood and maturity is the fact that a man controls
his family, his family does not control him. One of the problems we have today is that
there are not enough strong men. This does not mean that a man has to be brutal, but it
does mean that anytime a man marries a woman and can't control her, he has made a
mistake. Authority is absolutely necessary and makes life very pleasant for women when
they recognize and submit to this authority (1Pe 3:1­6, Gen 3:16, Est 1:20, Eph 5:24,
Col 3:18, 1Ti 2:12, Tit 2:5, 1Co 11:3, Eph 5:33).
In the divine order of authority in 1Co 11:3 Paul says, “But I want you to
understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and
God is the head of Christ.” Notice that it says that Christ is the head of every man, but it
only says that the man is the head of a woman. Men are not the head of women (plural). This is just a reference to one man being the head of one woman in the marital
relationship, which should begin during the courtship. So “Christ is the head of every
man, the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ.” God the Father is
not greater than TLJC, however God the Father is the head of Christ. This connotes the
divine order. 1Co 11:7 says, “For a man ought not to have his head covered [a reference
to with long hair], since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of
man.” Having the hair covered refers to long hair, which, for the woman is said to be
part of her glory, according to the mind of Christ or the thinking of our Lord Jesus Christ, and for the man it is said to be a dishonor. Look at 1Co 11:14­15 “Does not even nature
itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him, but if a woman has
long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her for a covering.” So in 1Co
11:8­10 “For man does not originate from woman, but woman from man; for indeed man
was not created for the woman's sake, but woman for the man's sake. Therefore the
woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.” The Bible says because of the angels, because the human race fell when the
first woman had a conversation with an angel called Lucifer. Therefore, the woman
should be under authority for her own protection. 1Co 11:11 “However, in the Lord,
neither is woman independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.” A great
weapon in the world for the destruction of society is a woman who is away from the
authority of man. This is one of the great tragedies in life and the reason we have
women's lib, lesbianism, and unhappy women. One way or another society gets out of
kilter when the woman gets away from authority. When women are out of control, there
is great disturbance in society and when women are under control, society is greatly
blessed by their presence. One of the great blessings in the original blessings of life is
when God gave man the woman, she was designed to be a blessing. Anything that is
designed to be a blessing, when out of kilter, and out from under the discipline and the
organizational structure that God intended, becomes a curse rather than a blessing.
Remember Pro 21:9, “It is better to live in a corner of a roof than in a house shared with
a contentious woman.” Pro 12:4 “A virtuous woman is the crown of her man but she
who embarrasses him is as rottenness in his bones.”
With Satan ruling the world, and when women rule men, you can see how
things can get pretty bad. That's how it was in the antediluvian civilization, and for that
reason is very refreshing to hear that there was a man who controlled his family. Only
men are mentioned in this passage because God has designed that men run society. This
type of teaching could be misconstrued by some males (not real men) as the basis for
tyranny, abuse, and for pushing women around, however that is out of line, and not what
God intended. Most males want to take absolutely no responsibility for the decisions that
they make, so you ladies should be very selective when it comes to marriage. Women in
their proper place are absolutely wonderful, and magnificent, but women in the wrong
place can actually be a destructive force and lead to the breakdown of society. Now, this
principle is brought out in our passage. Gen 6:9­10 These are the records [or the family history] of the generations of
Noah. Noah was a righteous man [a believer], blameless in his time [uncontaminated in
his genealogy]; Noah walked with God [a mature believer]. And Noah became the father
of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Noah had complete authority over his family. One of the things that is over­looked in the study of Noah is his manhood, he was a real
man, and none of his sons became involved with the Nephalim. It was the only family of
true humanity, and the only means by which TLJC could come into the world! Noah was
the exception to Gen 6:7 I will blot out mankind whom I have created from the surface of
the earth. All mankind was to be blotted out because mankind had become nephalim
(half­human and half­angelic). Without true humanity existing, there was no possibility
of the Lord Jesus Christ becoming true humanity and being judged for our sins. The
family history or genealogy of Noah is important because it is true humanity from Adam
and the woman to Noah. God created Adam and Adam had a son Seth. Seth had a son, Enosh, Enosh had a son, Kenan, Kenan, had a son, Mahalalel, Mahalalel, had a son, Jared, Jared, had a son, Enoch, Enoch, had a son, Methuselah, Methuselah, had a son, Lamech, Lamech, had a son, Noah. That Noah walked with God indicates he was a
mature believer as well. God the Holy Spirit is showing us that here is man who used his
authority and controlled those in his family. He protected them from one of the most
serious of all historical crisis. So, the entire verse says Gen 6:9, This is the family history of the generations
of Noah. Noah was a righteous man [a believer], blameless in his time [uncontaminated
in his genealogy]; Noah walked with God [a mature believer].
Noah’s Monument
Gen 6:10 And Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and
Japheth. Every member of the human race is descended from either Shem, Ham, or
Japheth, or the many combinations that have developed since then. Shem is the father of
the Akkadians, Chaldeans, Arabs, Lydians, Syrians, among others. Abraham was in the
line of Shem, and at age 99 he began the new racial species of the Jew. The Jewish line
continued only through Isaac and Jacob, both believers. Jacob's twelve sons are the basis
for the entire Jewish race, and our Lord’s humanity came from the line of Jacobs son, Judah. Ham was the father of the Phoenicians, Hittites, Amorites, Chinese, Japanese,
Egyptians, Canaanites, Lybians, Ethiopians, Watusi, Masi, Somali, Nandi, and others.
Japheth is the father of the Medes, Persians, Macedonians, Greeks, Romans, Slavs, Celts, Hurrians, Cassites, and more as well. Most of us are combinations of these groups. Today there is no such thing as purity of race, all have been intermingled.
Gen 6:11­12 Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was
filled with violence. And God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh
had corrupted their way upon the earth.
The effectiveness of the genetic attack on the earth by demons resulted in true
humanity being almost extinct on planet earth. As noted, the source of salvation had to
come from the true humanity of Jesus Christ. In 1Pe 2:24 the scripture says, He carried
our sins in his own body on the cross. As God, He could have nothing to do with sin, He
had to become true humanity. Therefore, there was the necessity for destroying the half­ breed race of the half­human, half­angelic creatures. The demons (beni ha elohim, the
sons of gods) were removed to Tartarus, while the corrupted humanity was removed to
Torments, in Hades. God protects the believer fulfilling His will in time of extreme
catastrophe. Whenever God has to judge the world to protect the human race from self­ destruction, He always protects the believer from this extreme catastrophe, which in this
case was a universal flood, which destroyed all nephalim and all animal life on the earth
except those in the ark. Regardless of how great the catastrophe, it is the mature believer
who survives. The pivot of mature believers always survive the catastrophe.
Gen 6:11­13 Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God; furthermore, the
earth was saturated with violence. Consequently, God looked at the earth and behold, it
was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. Then God said to Noah,
“the end of all flesh or true humanity has come before Me; for the earth is filled with
violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth.” It's
interesting to note that one of the greatest cultures of all time occurred during the
antediluvian civilization, yet the greatest violence also existed, as we’ve noted. Culture
and violence always go together, for it occurred again during the fifth century B.C. Athens, during the Renaissance, and today in the United States. When a population gets
to a point where it is saturated with evil and violence, God intervenes with judgment. However, there will never again be a universal judgment of the earth, like the flood. We
know that because of what God said to Noah after the flood and the promise behind the
rainbow in Gen 9:8­17 Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying, “Now
behold, I Myself do establish My covenant with you, and with your descendants after you;
and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the
earth with you; of all that comes out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. And I
establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of
the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, “This
is the sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living
creature that is with you, for all successive generations; I set My bow in the cloud, and it
shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. And it shall come about,
when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud, and I will
remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all
flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow
is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between
God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” And God said to Noah,
“This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that
is on the earth.” The earth will be entirely destroyed only once more, and that will occur at the
end of the Millennium. Under the principle that Jesus Christ controls history, there must
be, from time to time, great judgments so that certain segments of the population that are
self­destructive can be wiped out. The Lord said the same thing in Mat 26:52, “for all
those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword.” This does not refer to the soldier
in the military or police officer in law enforcement, but to the criminal who is self­ destructive in the human race. This is why capital punishment is necessary
So, in Gen 7:11 God destroyed them with planet earth, He opened up the
fountains of the deep. Remember the water that flooded the entire earth came from below
the surface of the earth. The rain that came from above contributed a very small portion
to the flood. This verse stresses the importance of God's grace in judgment, it is seen in
the work of our Lord on the cross, it is also seen in our Lord's removal of evil empires
from time to time to avoid the self­destruction of the human race.
Gen 6:8­11 “But Noah acquired grace in the eyes of the Lord.” These are the
records or the family history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man [a
believer], blameless in his time [uncontaminated in his genealogy]; Noah walked with
God [a mature believer]. And Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and
Japheth. Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with
violence. And God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had
corrupted their way upon the earth. The effectiveness of the genetic attack on the earth
by demons resulted in true humanity being almost extinct on planet earth. Gen 6:13­14 Then God said to Noah, “the end of all flesh or true humanity has
come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am
about to destroy them with the earth. Make for yourself an ark of gopher wood; you shall
make the ark with rooms, and shall cover it inside and out with pitch.” This was a direct
order from God, and one of things that we all need to understand is that when God gives
an order you don't have to understand it, you just have to do it. That's the principle of
authority; you're not to question it. In other words, we call it divine guidance, but the
principle is that we should let God do the thinking for us. Gen 6:14­17, “Make for yourself or construct an ark of gopher wood; you shall
make the ark with rooms, and shall cover it inside and out with pitch. And this is how you
shall make it: the length of the ark three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, and its
height thirty cubits. You shall make a window for the ark, and finish it to a cubit from the
top; and set the door of the ark in the side of it; you shall make it with lower, second, and
third decks. And behold, I, even I am bringing the flood of water upon the earth, to
destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life, from under heaven; everything that is on
the earth shall perish.”
Principles:
1. Verse 17 illustrates the principle that grace always precedes judgment. God
walks the extra mile before He lowers the boom. 2. God warned about the coming judgment through the doctrinal communication of
Noah. Doctrine taught by our right Pastor/Teacher does that for us. 2Ti 3:16 “All
Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for
correction, for training in righteousness.”
3. God provided the ark as the vehicle for safety and security as well as for a training
aid while Noah was preaching. Noah pointed to the ship that he was building and
told people that unless they got on board, they would perish! When the judgment
came, they all had every opportunity to respond.
4. The devil tried to hinder the incarnation by angelic infiltration into the human
race, but all he did was destroy the citizens in his own kingdom. That's what he
does. Inevitably, he always loses to God in the long run. He may seemingly win
a battle, but he always ends up losing the war. 5. The ark was the only place of safety when international judgment fell on the
human race, just as being in Christ is the only place of safety from eternal
judgment. As in the days of Noah, so it is throughout human history, everyone has a
chance to be saved, everyone has a chance to know truth. Tit 2:11­12 “For the grace of
God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, it instructs us to deny un godliness
and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and spiritually in the present age. In
Joh 1:9 Jesus Christ was the true light which, coming into the world, enlightens every
man. Every man is enlightened from within his conscience by TLJC. In Joh 12:32 , the
Lord said “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.” Whether or not men respond when He draws them is an individual issue, but they will be
drawn! Anyone can know God if they truly desire to do so, according to the word of
God. The concept of man seeking God is found in Jer 29:13 “And you will seek Me and
find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart [right lobe­brain].” Joh 7:17 “If any
man is willing to do His will, he shall know of the doctrine whether it is of God.” Negative volition at God­consciousness is described in some detail in Rom
1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness [negative
volition at God­consciousness] and unrighteousness of men who suppress truth through
all unrighteousness. They deny and suppress the truth by living in unrighteousness, which is defined as any form of living outside of the plan of God.
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known about God is evident within
themselves [God­consciousness], for God made it evident to them. Every person has
something about God manifest within him or her. If they desire to know more, God will
reveal it to them and bring in the doctrinal information. If they reject it, then God may or
may not reveal things to them again. Rom 1:20­23 For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes, His
eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through that
which has been made [observation], so that they [unbelievers] are without excuse. For
even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they
became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to
be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an
image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four­footed animals and crawling
creatures.The unbeliever suppresses truth through his own negative volition. In human
history everyone has a chance to be saved and to learn doctrinal truth. We often feel
sorry for nations that are destroyed, and sympathize with people under disastrous
conditions, but we should never fail to realize a very important principle: God is just and
everyone has an opportunity. No nation or group ever goes down unless Jesus Christ, who controls history, allows it to happen!
Back in Gen 6:18­21 “But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall
enter the ark you and your sons and your wife, and your sons wives with you. And of
every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every kind into the ark [this of course
is necessary for the repopulation of the earth], to keep them alive with you; they shall be
male and female. Of the birds after their kind, and of the animals after their kind, of
every creeping thing of the ground after its kind [all the reptiles], two of every kind shall
come to you to keep them alive. And as for you, take for yourself some of all food which
is edible, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them.” The occupants of the ark were inside it for 370 days, that's one year and five
days. The flood lasted 40 days, but before the waters would recede, and before they
could leave the ark, they would live in that ark for one year and five days. Therefore,
Noah would need food for eight people and for the animals that were to be brought into
the ark. Gen 6:22 Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he
did. He was prepared for the crisis because he obeyed commands from God. Noah is a
well­known story to most and it contains great spiritual lessons. Finally, we will note
other portions of the word of God which comment on Noah.
­ Noah had the high honor in Gen 6:9 of being said to be one of those believers who
walked with God, one of the highest honors in the Old Testament.
­ There is a trio of super­grace or mature believers mentioned in Eze 14:14, 20, and Noah
is one of them (Noah, Daniel, and Job). Noah is one of the great mature believers of all
time!
­ Noah is used as an analogy of the preservation of Israel in Isa 54:7­9, and therefore
Noah was used for many messages for the prophets speaking to the Jews and that in itself
indicates the greatness of the man.
­ The mature believer Noah had tremendous doctrine resident in his soul so that he made
God’s hall of fame in Heb 11:7.
­Noah was also referred to and honored by TLJC during His earthly ministry, Mat 24:37­ 38, Luk 17:26­27.
­ Noah was also said to be a great teacher or communicator of doctrine in 2Pe 2:5.
­ Like all great believers, Noah had failures that are not unusual nor surprising, but like
all great believers his greatness is related to the doctrine in his soul (Gen 9:20­24). So again we read in Heb 11:6­7 And without faith it is impossible to please
Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those
who seek Him. By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in
reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the
world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. Noah is one of only three antediluvian heroes noted in the roll of
Hebrews Chapter 11, the other two being Abel and Enoch. Heb 11:1­2 Now faith is the
assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old
[Noah, Abel, Enoch] gained approval. Noah lived by the faith that he preached to others. Through his obedience to the will of God he delivered the last 8 members of the true, unadulterated human race and condemned the rest of the world’s population. Though all
mankind was descended of Adam and the woman, all but these 8 believers had been
corrupted. Those who perished had rejected God’s plan of regeneration and had chosen
instead Satan’s plan of degeneration. By faith these believers accepted the deliverance
available to them in Christ, and in the same way we can be delivered in this present evil
world. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Rev 1:8). Through doctrine resident in our souls, we as Church­age believers can live in
the same truth that those believers of Heb 11 lived. In spite of our many failures, and our
corrupted environment, we believers are to walk in the newness of life in Christ Jesus
(Rom 6:4).
