- He had to push His head forward, in order to push His body into a certain position, leaning far forward. This was so that the blood in His body could pool in the ventricles of the heart.
- Christ literally pushed His body forward and held that position as He gave up His Spirit, in physical death.
John 19:34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
“Pierced”= dâqar (daw-kar') to stab; strike (thrust) through, wound.
There are 2 categories of death that are experienced by Christ on the cross,
Physical and Spiritual
The phrase “blood of Christ” throughout Scripture refers to His entire saving work.
By pushing his head forward at physical death, our Lord prepared His body for the piercing thrust of that Roman soldier’s spear.
Jesus knew this spear was coming; He told Zechariah the prophecy 500 yrs earlier, which being inspired Zechariah recorded in the Scripture.
For this act, of the piercing spear, revealed the True humanity of Christ, by proving He was of flesh and blood.
John 10:11“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
A large amount of the blood in His body settled in the left and right ventricles of the heart.
This made our Lord's blood vulnerable to the spear thrust after physical death.
First, the body cools off.
Secondly, rigor mortis begins to occur, which means His body became rigid in that forward position.
Third, the blood in the ventricles begin to coagulate, and the various components of the blood starts to layer out.
The platelets and serum especially looked like water, HUDOR to John, and the blood clots looked like HAIMA.
For most of His blood was still in His body and was not released until after His physical death by piercing of the Roman spear.
When the blood in the corpse separated into its parts, it was proof that our Lord did not bleed to death.
Repeat it was proof, evidence!
Autolysis = the blood layering out into its component parts or the breakdown of the cells.
FACT CHECK - Jesus did not bleed to death, even though He may have bleed excessively; from the scourging, beating, other piercings.
The literal blood of Christ refers to His physical death on the cross once His work was finished.
Eph 1:7, "In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace."
John 19:35 "And he [the apostle John] who has seen the water and the blood has testified, and his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth so that you also may believe."
John 19:36 For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, “NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN.”
John 19:37 And again another Scripture (fulfilled) says, “THEY SHALL LOOK ON HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED.”
