What are the angels looking for. Pastor Joe Sugrue.
Wednesday, February 21, 2007
Angels are watching us intently, 1 Pe 1:12; 1 Co 4:9; EPH 3:10; 1 Ti 5:21; 1 Co 11:10.
“long”, epithumeoo = to set one’s heart upon a thing, lust after, long for, covet, to desire, to desire to do, and to have eagerness to do so. It is used concerning those who seek things forbidden.
“to look” parakupto = to stoop to a thing in order to look at it; to look at with head bowed forward; to look into with the body bent. Figuratively, it means to look carefully into, inspect curiously.
It was used of a slave who bent over the edge of a flat roof to catch a glimpse of musicians playing in the courtyard.
COL 2:18 Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels , taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind,
Elect angels are spectators as well as ministering spirits who are here to serve us.
Fallen angels are here to deceive us so that we will be defrauded of our prize, which is glorifying Christ.
The battle that is allowed to progress by means of the grace and patience of God is on a stage for the purpose of revealing the character and nature of God to all creatures.
Each act in this drama/comedy is analogous to a dispensation.
LUK 2:13-14 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
MAT 26:53 Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels ?
MAT 27:51 And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom,
1CO 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
EXO 26:31 And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen; it shall be made with cherubim, the work of a skillful workman.
parakupto = “to look at with head bent forward, to look into with the body bent, to stoop and look into.” (Wuest)
Metaphorically it means, “to look carefully into, to inspect curiously.” The prefix para means “beside” and is used as denoting separation. (Wuest)
The angels are not a part of the mysteries of the Church and its power; we are!
“Thus the angels peer into the mysteries of Church truth from beside it [para], like the cherubim bending over the Mercy Seat where man has access to God through a substitutionary sacrifice that cleanses him from sin.”
“through” is dia, the preposition of intermediate agency. The wisdom of God is to be made known to the elect angels by means of the instrumentality of the Church.
“wisdom” = sophia, which means wisdom or skill.
In the Septuagint sophia primarily replaces the word chokhmah.
Chokhmah may describe skill or expertise in some practical matter or task.
Chokhmah was used to describe the artistic construction of the tabernacle (it was made with skill).
Wisdom or chokhmah was used to describe the garments of the high priest (made with skill).
Wisdom has an overt manifestation that observers can see.
Angels don’t have a human spirit.
Angels were not baptized by God the HS.
Angels don’t have the filling of the HS.
Angels don’t have the mentorship of the HS.
Angels were not given the gift of PT.
