Anger turned a genius into an idiot.

Friday, November 7, 2003

Accusative singular direct object – megan thumon – qumoVn mevgan – an idiom, having vehement anger =
“and he foams with fury.”

Thumos – thuo – a violent movement of air, water, ground or man, it means to boil over, boiling or foaming with anger = foaming with rage.

Anger – “orge” – has to do with a mental attitude anger, or an inner disposition of anger; an unhappy or “angry” disposition.

MAR 3:5 – TLJC was in a room filled with legalists, and He was –
“looking around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart.”

In the negative sinful way this word means to be mentally angry and reveal it by your disposition, qualities and traits.

Thumon = a more aggressive anger, it has an emotional connotation of being moved and controlled by the emotional sin of anger.

Thumon = to be furious, infuriated, irate, wrathful, fierce, savage, turbulent, unrestrained and violent.

1. A mental attitude sin.
2. An anthropopathism related to divine judgment.
3. Legitimate anger against the “lie.”

As a mental attitude sin, anger expresses antagonism, hatred, bitterness, resentment, irrationality.
It can be mental or emotional or both.

If your right lobe is dominating and you become angry you can react in mental anger (orge).

If your reaction is from emotion, then it is emotional anger (Thumos).

Anger is related to stupidity –
ECC 7:9 “Do not be hasty to be angry in your right lobe; for anger resides in the bosom of fools.”

Anger even destroys a nation –
AMO 1:11 So decrees the Lord, “For three sins of Edom, even for four, I will not revoke its punishment. Because he pursued his brother with a sword, stifling all compassion, because his anger raged continually and he maintained his anger forever.”

Anger is associated with grieving the Holy Spirit –
EPH 4:30-31 “Stop grieving the Holy Spirit, the God by Whom you have been sealed to the day of redemption, let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and slander be removed from you, together with all evil.”

Anger is a violation of the royal family honor code and also hinders effective prayer –
1TI 2:8 “Therefore, I desire that men in every place pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and without dissension.”

Anger is the source of chain sinning –
HEB 12:15 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;

1. PRO 6:34 – jealousy produces anger in a person.
