Anyone to whom you must give a false impression can never be a true friend.

  1. To believers who are living in sin and hiding from God, the Lord would say to them what He said to Adam in GEN 3:9, “Where are you?”

  1. To those believers who are jealous and bitter and kill their fellow believer by hating or despising them, our Lord said; GEN 4:9, “Where is your brother” or “Where is your fellow believer?”

Do you consider their problems, your problems, because you would do whatever you could to help them because they are your brothers or sisters in Christ?

K.J.s, Psa 16:2-3, O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee; But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

  1. To those believers who refuse to deal with their own problems by running away from their problems as Hagar did, our Lord says something like; “Where have you come from and where are you going;?”

Two important questions given to Hagar from the Lord when He said to her;  “Where have you come from and where are you going;?”

“Where have you come from?” = Hagar came from trying to run away from her problems and her situation rather than meet those problems face to face.

Hagar, not only had a problem with Sarah, Abram’s wife, but she also was afraid of the God of the Hebrews, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hagar thought that the Lord was tracking her down to hurt her, but He was tracking her down to help her and restore her.

His heart is restoration not degradation.

Regeneration not degeneration.

Forgiveness not Bitterness.

  1. To those believers who are influenced by unbelievers and carnal believers, to receive “unjust gain,” or “materialism” that our Lord might say “Who are these individuals who are with you?”

Prin: The smarter you are the fewer friends you will have.

PRO 18:24 A man of many friends comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

The principle of love and friendship is described for us in Pro 17:17    A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

“loves” = the Hebrew verb ahab which means to make their love for you manifested, evident, apparent.

In times of trouble, true friends show themselves friends.

In times of trouble, true friends are manifested to us.

In times of trouble, true friends become evident.

In times of trouble, true friends are apparent.

True friends never stab you in the back; Pro 17:9  He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends.

True friends never gossip about what their friends do wrong.

True friends provide a pleasant and relaxing environment.

True friends don’t use things you say — against you.

True friends never gossip about what their friends do because in Pro 10:12 “Love covers all transgressions.”

Because your true friends do not compete with you, and therefore they will never stab you in the back socially or economically.

Be careful, be cautious, there is always someone somewhere who either thinks or says; “I’m tired of being second in charge!”

Those are the words and the thoughts of a man who lusted after power and was willing to do anything that he had to do to achieve his goal.

If that meant to lie, or to speak evil, to judge, to be critical, to be filled with jealousy and anger and willing to do whatever is necessary to take and steal that which belongs to another, so be it.

No matter what anyone has done — to you, — or — even worse than that, what they have done to hurt the people we love, that is the real test and to pass it you need to live in 2CO 13:5 with ROM 12:9-21.

2CO 13:5   Test yourselves {to see} if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you‑‑ unless indeed you fail the test?

Needless to say, that was exactly what Satan and the kingdom of Darkness was waiting for, as this so-called friend was literally ready to attack me and lie about me because he was tired of being number #2.

True friends also guard your privacy.

Free from hypocrisy; Rom 12:9 “Let your love be without hypocrisy. Abhor evil; cling to what is good.”

In the avoidance of hypocrisy, true friendship is often established.

You can also be honest with your friends; you can level with them; Pro 27:6   Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.

A pastor is a friend to the congregation when he doesn’t pull any punches, like I did on Friday evening, Gal 4:16.

Anyone to whom you must give a false impression can never be a true friend.

Some people never have friends because they are arrogant and proud of their hypocrisy and their ability to deceive others.

This love toward a few friends overflows in a relaxed mental attitude toward all believers.

Prin: You can love a friend more than a relative when the friend has Bible doctrine in his soul.

Age is no barrier in category three love.

Remember this category of love is limited to a few.

It takes both energy and sacrifice to have true friends.

Category three love can be neutralized or destroyed by Verbal sins, Pro 16:28, 17:9.

PRO 16:28 A perverse man spreads strife, and a slanderer separates intimate friends.

PRO 17:9  He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends.

This love we should have for our true friends help sharpen each other’s appearance, character and nature; PRO 27:17  Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

True friendship is very profitable for one another says Ecc 4:9-12.

Friendship makes prosperity marvelous and lightens adversity by dividing and sharing it.

One way to tell who your real friends are is when you are faced with some difficult times.

Job tells us that a true friend will be gracious and kind to you when you’re going through a difficult time, JOB 6:14 “For the despairing man there should be kindness from his friend;

GAL 6:2, Bear one another’s burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ.

There’s an old Swedish motto that hangs in many Swedish kitchens which says…..”Shared joy is a double joy, shared sorrow is half a sorrow.”

Remember this principle: “A friend cannot be known in prosperity: and an enemy cannot be hidden in adversity.”

When you go through adversity, you will discover who your enemies really are or who they are not, such as a faithful friend especially in times of adversity.

Marcus Cicero said A friend is, as it were, a second self.

Aristotle asked a question, he said “What is a friend”? And then he answered by saying; “A single soul dwelling in two bodies!”

He also said, “Misfortune shows those who are not really your friends!”

Zeno When asked, “What is a friend?” said, “Another I”.

The book of Wisdom 6:14 says “A faithful friend is a strong defense: And he that hath found such a one has found a treasure.”

Now, the point is that a true friend is never known until a man is in need.

None of us really like to see some great array of beauty without someone to share it with.

  1. Believers should develop friendships with those that are positive toward doctrine, 2CO 6:14 cf. Psa 119:63.

2CO 6:14   Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?

Psa 119:63  I am a companion of all those who fear Thee, and of those who keep Thy precepts.

  1. Your friends reveal your character, JAM 4:4 You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

  1. Be careful of the familiar friend in whom you trust who will betray you, as in PSA 41:9.

PSA 41:9  Even my close friend, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

  1. The one who will not have compassion in time of disaster, as in Job 6:14.

  1. The one who will deceive you for personal gain as Jonadab did to Amnon in 2Sa 13:3.

  1. Be careful of those “so called” friends who contribute to causing you to fall, 2Sa 13.

  1. Be careful for those who become your friend because of what they can get from you; Pro 19:6.

Pro 19:6 “Many will entreat the favor of a generous man, and every man is a friend to him who gives gifts.”

  1. Be careful for those so-called friends who flatter you with their speech as the friend in Pro 27:14.

PRO 27:14   He who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning, It will be reckoned a curse to him.

  1. Be on the alert for those who are friendly with you for your wealth as in Pro 19:4.

PRO 19:4   Wealth adds many friends, But a poor man is separated from his friend.

  1. Be careful for the friends who forsake you and flee when you need them the most, as in Mar 14:50.

  1. Be alert for the ones who use you and never return the kindness that you showed them as in Luk 15:16.
  2. Be on the alert for the ones whom you love who turn against you as in Job 19:19.

You see, it’s the word of God that guides us and becomes our guiding light, not the viewpoint of the world, not the garbage from Hollywood or the vomit of the cosmic system.

1JO 5:19  We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

The viewpoint of the world or the Cosmic system is either:

Cosmic One = living for self.

Cosmic Two = living in the evil of religion.

The television, especially, the attacks on divine institution #2, which is marriage, or the attacks made upon divine institution #3, which deals with the family, and the attacks are made upon those who are negative toward doctrine, especially those under the influence of the different lusts found in the Cosmic system.

Gone are the days of Leave it to Beaver.

Matt Dillon and his sidekick Festus.

Now we survive on the immoral lives.

Of those of the “Young and the Restless.”

So they go to the “General Hospital.”

And the Doctors can’t do them any good.

So they keep on with their Search for Tomorrow.

And they all end up in Another World.

Maybe they are about to fall off The Edge of Night.

Because after all, “As the world turns” is the issue.

Remember you have but One Life to Live , and there remains a blessed hope for you and “All your Children.”

More Hope than Ryan could ever give.

We are alive and cooking, spiritually speaking, especially now that we have victory over what the H.S. calls the flesh, or the OSN, also known as the adamic nature, the old man, the carnal believer,  etc.

To those believers who are obsessed with the Internet or Cable television, both of which are designed by the god of this world to replace God’s Word OVER for Hollywood, all of which have one main goal that the devil lusts after as the god of this world.

That main goal is found in ISA 14:14  ‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’

  1. To those believers like Elijah who live in self-pity and feel so sorry for themselves that in their arrogance they wished that they were dead, our Lord might say “What are you doing here?”

To those believers who live in defeat and just lie around and do nothing all day but complain, our Lord says: “What are you doing here?”

The background to this passage and Elijah just had a tremendous victory and that is when the danger of arrogance comes in, right after a victory, especially one as great as Elijah had.

It was also a victory where God the Holy Spirit inspired Elijah to use some divine sarcasm to mock at the false religion of Baal Worshippers, and the different Baal’s that they worshipped.

Idolatry begins in the mind and proceeds to overt practice; Jud 2:10‑13; Eze 14:7.

Jdg 2:10 and there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel.

Jdg 2:11  Then  [not knowing the Lord] the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals,

  1. Baal-berith = covenant baal, or the lord and the guardian of the covenants = we would call the let’s make a deal god.

  1. Baal-gad = the lord of good luck, or the Baal of fortune, worshipped in Isa 65:11 = the Catholics have something called St. Christopher who they pray to when they want stuff.

  1. Baal-hamon = possessor of abundance = the god of materialism.

  1. Baal hermon = this was the mountain god and the place that was the center of all baal worship. (Worshipped in Jdg 3:3, 1Ch 5:23,

Deu 3:9.).

  1. Baal peor = this was the god of prostitution and sex, worshipped in NUM 25:1-3.

  1. Baal zebub = the fly god, or the god of counterfeit. (Worshipped in 2Ki 1:2-16.).

This verb shiggaon means mentally deranged and they had no spiritual strength and no doctrine resident in their soul, and so they  immediately had to accept a substitute.

You will be shocked at the things which believers do once they reject Bible doctrine.

  1. 2Ki 5:25 Elisha asked his servant the question; “Where have you been?”

In 2Ki 5:25,  Elisha’s servant was not doing what Elisha but deceived him which caused Elisha to ask his servant the question; “Where have you been, Gehazi?” And he said, “Your servant went nowhere.”

Elisha was doing what the Lord does to us when we fail and that is stop lying to ourselves and to others.

DEU 33:27 “The eternal God is a dwelling place, And underneath are the everlasting arms; And He drove out the enemy from before you, and said, ‘Destroy!’

  1. The seventh question is mine = “When you get to where you’re going, where are you going to be”

The sad thing but the good thing is that Elisha’s servant was honest with Elisha when he said, “Your servant went nowhere.”

  1. To go nowhere is to go somewhere because nowhere is somewhere.

  1. We are either going forward to what lies ahead, which is toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus or we go backwards into reversionism.

Where are you going to be, when you get to where you’re going?

DEU 8:18   “But you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth,

NEH 4:14  “Do not be afraid of YOUR ENEMIES; remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”

ECC 12:1  Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near when you will say, “I have no delight in them”;

ISA 46:8   “Remember this, and be assured; Recall it to mind, you transgressors.

ISA 46:9  “Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; {I am} God, and there is no one like Me.

JOH 12:16  These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things to Him.

HEB 13:7   Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith.

Those are the things to remember; “When you get to where you’re going, where are you going to be?”
