Ascension and session part 3.
1- Passover, Pesah: Jesus on the Cross.
2- Unleavened Bread, Hag HaMatzah: For one week after Passover. It is a picture of sanctification, as Jesus Christ was buried. Leaven is representative of sin, of which Jesus Christ had none, and conquered it for us.
3- Firstfruits, Yom HaBikkurim: The last day of Unleavened Bread …Resurrection of Jesus…. symbolic of Jesus being the first of the Firstfruits.
4- Pentecost, Shavuot (Harvest Offering): Fifty days after Passover, is the Feast of Weeks. The Holy Spirit fills believers as promised in the upper room discourse. Pentecost is 50 days after the Resurrection.
The break is representative of the Church-age which would be intercalated into the dispensation of Israel.
5- Feast of Trumpets, Rosh Hashanah: For 10 days. It represents either the Rapture or the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
6- The Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur: At the end of Rosh Hashanah, ten days later… It is Final Judgment of Christ over all the nations of unbelievers; the Great White Throne Judgment.
7- The Feast of Tabernacles or Booths, Sukkot: Five days later. It represents the Eternal Heaven for ever and ever.
The long break of summer, between Pentecost and the Feast of Trumpets represents the time of the session of Christ in which His victory is established and His care and intercession for His church is executed.
Theologically this is called the session which is that doctrine of christology pertaining to the glorification of our Lord’s “humanity” at the right hand of the Father.
MAT 26:64 TLJC reveals that he is the son of God and that He has perfect power by stating that the son of man will be sitting at the right hand of power,
In REV 4:2, TLJC is sitting on the throne as evidence of His kingship.
In PSA 110:1, the prophecy is given concerning the Messiah sitting at the right hand of God the Father, therefore it is a prophecy concerning the Messiah fulfilled by TLJC.
In MAT 22:44, the session is used to reveal to the Pharisees that the Messiah had to become a member of the human race.
In Peter’s first message at Pentecost he sites the session as proof that TLJC ascended into heaven, ACT 2:34.
The session or TLJC being seated at the right hand of God also reveals His victory in the angelic conflict, mentioned in HEB 1:13.
2 Cor 8:9
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.
HEB 2:9
But we do see Him who has been made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
8. The sneaky snake is usually promised some form of personal promotion and prosperity for his betrayal.
The Son of God humbled Himself by becoming a man and His humanity was promoted to the highest position of authority. Satan tried to elevate himself and will be demoted to the lowest position in the universe.
Ezek 28:19
All who know you [satan] among the peoples
Are appalled at you;
You have become terrified,
And you will be no more.
Concerning the victory and the rewards of TLJC the session is mentioned in REV 3:21.
REV 3:21
He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
Concerning the power of God to the church age the session is given as the source in EPH 1:20.
Concerning our position in Christ the session is mentioned in EPH 2:6.
Concerning the intercessory ministry of TLJC the session is mentioned in ROM 8:34.
ROM 8:34
who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.
The session is mentioned concerning His power to save and forgive sin in ACT 5:31.
Acts 5:31
He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
The session is mentioned concerning the hypostatic union in HEB 1:3.
The session is mentioned in relationship to His priesthood in HEB 8:1.
The session is mentioned concerning the efficacy of His work on the cross, HEB 10:12.
The session is mentioned as a means of occupation with Christ in HEB 12:2.
The session is mentioned concerning His victory in the angelic conflict when He came back from Hades in 1PE 3:22.
1 Peter 3:22
who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.
His deity,
His power and authority.
His kingship.
His fulfillment of messianic prophecies.
His ascension into heaven.
His victory in the angelic conflict,
His eternal rewards,
The power made available to every C.A. believer,
Our position and security in Christ,
His intercessory ministry,
His power to save and forgive sin in.
His hypostatic union,
His priesthood,
The efficacy of His work on the cross,
Occupation with TLJC,
His trip to Hades.
Ps 110:1, “the Lord [God the Father] said to my Lord [God the Son], `sit down at My right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.'”
HEB 1:13, but to which of the angels has He ever said, “sit at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet”?
This prophecy is also quoted a number of times in the New Testament, MAT 22:44; MAR 12:36; LUK 20:42-43; ACT 2:34-35; HEB 1:13; HEB 10:13.
The resurrection, ascension, and session all deal with the true humanity of Jesus Christ.
Just as only the humanity of Christ could provide our salvation by receiving the judgment for our sins in His own body, so only the humanity of Christ could be resurrected, ascend, and sit at the right hand of God the Father.
Acts 2:33 “therefore, [Jesus Christ] having been exalted to the right hand of God.”
Acts 5:31 “He is the one whom God has exalted at His right hand as Prince and Savior.”
PHI 2:9 therefore also, God has highly exalted Him and given Him a title which is above every title,
that at the title of Jesus every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of the Father.”
Point 4, The session and the strategic victory of the angelic conflict.
The session means that the humanity of Christ inherited a greater title than any angelic creature including any seraphim or cherubim.
Although we are now inferior to angels in our human bodies on earth, in the future, in resurrection bodies, we will be totally superior to angels.
With the resurrection of Jesus Christ, all angelic creatures, including fallen angels, are subordinated to Him “in His humanity”!
In His humanity, He was made lower than angels, HEB 2:7.
