“Caught up to God” = the ascension.
“And to His throne” = the session.
Ascension = that doctrine of Christology pertaining to the transfer of our Lord’s true humanity from planet earth to the third heaven in a resurrection body.
Session = that doctrine of Christology pertaining to the glorification of our Lord’s “humanity” at the right hand of the Father.
If Christ remained on earth, He would have a limited glory, but when He went to the third heaven He became superior to all creation, and therefore had unlimited glory.
MAT 26:64 – TLJC reveals that He is the Son of God by stating that the Son of man will be sitting at the right hand of power.
REV 4:2 – TLJC is sitting on the throne as evidence of His kingship.
PSA 110:1 – the prophecy is given concerning the Messiah sitting at the right hand of God the Father – a prophecy fulfilled by TLJC.
MAT 22:44 – the session is used to reveal to the Pharisees that the Messiah had to become a member of the human race.
In Peter’s first message at Pentecost he cites the session as proof that TLJC ascended into heaven, ACT 2:34.
HEB 1:13 – the session reveals His victory in the angelic conflict.
Concerning the victory and the rewards of TLJC, the session or TLJC being seated at the right hand of God is mentioned in REV 3:21.
Concerning the power of God and the beginning of the Church-age the session is mentioned in EPH 1:20.
Concerning our position in Christ the session is mentioned in EPH 2:6.
Concerning the intercessory ministry of TLJC this principle is mentioned in ROM 8:34.
The session is mentioned concerning our Lord’s power to save and forgive sin, ACT 5:31.
The session is also mentioned concerning the Hypostatic Union in HEB 1:3.
It is mentioned in relationship to our Lord’s priesthood in
HEB 8:1.
It is mentioned concerning the efficacy of His work on the cross, HEB 10:12.
It is mentioned as a means of occupation with Christ in HEB 12:2.
It is mentioned concerning His victory in the angelic conflict when He came back from Hades, 1PE 3:22.
A Christological dispensation is a period of time in which Christ actually indwells the body of a human being.
a. During the great power experiment of the Hypostatic Union which runs from the birth of Christ in B.C. 4 to the resurrection and ascension of Christ in A.D. 30, a period of 33 years.
b. The great power experiment of the Church-age which runs from the Day of Pentecost in 30 A.D. until the Rapture of the Church, time unknown by all but God.
(1) The pre-Canon period, the time of the Book of Acts and temporary spiritual gifts, runs from 30 – 96 A.D.
(2) The post-Canon period, the period at present, runs from 96 A.D. to the Rapture of the Church.
A dispensation is a period of time in human history expressed in terms of divine revelation.
Dispensations are divine categories of human history; therefore, both the divine outline and the divine interpretation of human history.
Dispensations are the vehicle by which believers living at a specific time in history can orient to God’s will, plan, and purpose for their lives.
Only one dispensation is called the “dispensation of grace,” EPH 3:2.
Stewardship – oikonomian oi*konomivan = a dispensation.
“If indeed you have heard of the dispensation of God’s grace which was given to me for you;”
