AZ Conference 2008. Part 3. The Lord is the One shepherding me. Psa 23.
Saturday, January 12, 2008
Basic English translation –
“The Lord takes care of me as His sheep; I will not be without any good thing.”
I know that no matter what happens in my life, He is going to be there, be on top of it, and have ready whatever is best for me at that moment.
Logistical grace includes life support, doctrinal provision, blessing, and equal opportunity to execute the pre-designed plan of God for every believer.
The justice of God sends forth life support and blessing to both winners and losers.
Have you taken inventory of your life to look back and taste and see the goodness of the Lord in each circumstance?
PSA 119:67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word.
Think of how many billions of dollars and years of their lives Americans spend because they fear evil.
Here’s a secret to a happy life free from the fear of evil: conquer your fear of death, and watch the rest of them fade into the carpet.
Find the body of truth that offers the calm assurance of a happy death and a victory beyond – and then go live in that truth.
I shall not lack for temporal things. Does He not feed the ravens and cause the lilies to grow?
I shall not lack for spiritual things.
Qal active participle = the Lord is taking care of him and keeps on doing it.
Sheep require endless attention and personal care.
HEB 7:25 “He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”
Our Shepherd has learned the wants of His sheep by experience, for he was Himself “led as a sheep to the slaughter.”
The Lord is the Shepherd and Guardian … of your souls.
My soul will be completely fulfilled by My Shepherd.
When He died on the cross He gave His soul as my ransom in His unique substitutionary spiritual death.
He is completely jealous for your soul, just as your soul longs for His presence.
David had to learn this lesson also. If your soul is not right, then all the other trappings don’t mean a thing.
Joy in the midst of great suffering is the mark of the super-grace believer who understands that the Lord is the one who keeps on shepherding me, so I cannot and do not lack anything.
PSA 23:2 He causes me to lie down in pastures of choice grass; He leads me to waters of refreshment.
Lying down in pastures of choice grass is a picture of tranquility that results from using the three spiritual skills for learning doctrine.
Three spiritual skills:
1. The Filling of the Holy Spirit
2. The perception, metabolization, and application of Bible Doctrine
3. The deployment of the ten problem-solving devices on the FLOT of the soul
“Makes me lie down” = rabats – Hiphil imperfect stem.
The hiphil is causative. It represents the subject as causing an object to participate indirectly as a second subject in the action of the verb.
Here the Lord Jesus Christ causes the event of David – and by extension us – lying down in the pastures.
The subject – the Lord – is the initiator, and the object – the believer – is the responder.
The green pastures represent the Word of God, the truth of Bible doctrine, which is the perfect food for our souls, just as tender grass is natural nutrition for sheep.
Being led to waters of refreshment refers to the application of doctrine to your life.
Our mob instincts, our fears and timidity, our stubbornness and stupidity, and our perverse habits are all parallels that are both uncanny and a little bit unsettling!
