Be doers of the Word.
Friday, September 12, 2008
Would you rather affiliate with a gifted speaker who has the ability to impress you with his knowledge or a quiet, reserved person who lives a life of wisdom and humility?
Would you rather befriend a person who claims convictions, or one who lives them?
Who do you want to be?
Pause for a second and ask yourself, what does it mean to me to be a “doer of the word”?
Ginomai
“But prove yourselves,” which is the present middle imperative
The present tense, linear aktionsart (? points to the way in which that verb is structured in relation to time) gives us “Keep on”.
Middle voice: means you must do it yourself from your own volition.
Imperative mood: means it is a command — “Keep on becoming.” It is a command for the daily function of GAP (Grace Apparatus for Perception), not the occasional function of GAP.
Human IQ has nothing to do with Spiritual IQ
GAP - Stage 1 The pastor-teacher prepares to teach his congregation by studying to show himself approved and by using the I.C.E method for accuracy.
The “hearer of the Word” in JAM 1:22 is related to the left lobe, whereas the “doer of the Word” is related to the right lobe.
corrected translation so far:
“Keep on becoming…”
Poietes is the noun here for “doers”. It refers to Bible doctrine in the right lobe. That is where you use it.
You “do” with your mind. It is epignosis in the right lobe. You are not a “doer” by overt action.
Technical doctrines serve as the foundation of the spiritual house being built in your soul…technical doctrines are the brick & mortar, the stick frame, the roofing shingles!
Without understanding the 4 stages of GAP, you don’t fully understand what it means to be a “doer”. The frame of reference is another technical term we use to describe the viewpoint of a believer as they interact with the world around them.
“If I only knew then what I know now!”
This divine viewpoint (aka frame of reference) becomes the basis for application of BD to experience.
“not mearly hearers” — nominative plural from akroates which refers to stage 2 of GAP, Bible doctrine in the left lobe.
Left lobe knowledge is unrecognized potential
With negative volition, you are “mearly a hearer”, which is the warning being given in JAM 1:22.
Anything short of the metabolization of BD into your right lobe where it is prepared for application is a tragedy!
Paralogizomai
“who delude themselves” is the present middle participle of this Greek verb. It means to defraud or to deceive.
PRO 14:8 The wisdom of the sensible is to understand his way, But the foolishness of fools is deceit.
You are fooling yourself if you think you can simply come to Bible class, learn His Word and then go home and not BELIEVE it!
To be a “doer of the word” and “not mearly a hearer”, you must exercise your free will to dwell on what you’ve learned and with PVTD, accept it as the Truth.
Talk is cheap!
Knowledge of BD is impressive, but wisdom from being a “doer of the word” is incomparable.
BD requires faith, builds wisdom, and establishes a frame of reference from which we perch ourselves, THINKING with the mind of Christ.
Give me the “doer” of God’s Word and let the world keep its educated idiots!
