The best friend of the conscience that has been defiled and seared.

Traveler – David’s arrogance Rich man – David. His own flock – Davids harem.

EXO 22:1 If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, he shall pay five oxen for the ox and four sheep for the sheep.

1. The son of the adultery who will die, 2SA 12:14-19.

The innocent son will die in the place of the guilty father, a perfect illustration of TLJC dying in our place as the perfect eternal Son of God.

2. Amnon, Davids elder son by Ahinoam of Jezreel, will force himself sexually upon his sister Tamar, repeating what David did to Bathsheba, 2SA 13:14.

to lay = Qal imperfect – shakab = to have sex many times; used for rape or forcing oneself upon another; used for what David did to Bathsheba, 2SA 11:4.

3. Tamar is the full sister of Absalom. 2Sa 13 – Absalom murders his half brother Amnon = analogy of Davids murder of Uriah.

4. A reproduction of Davids rebellion against God in the Absalom revolution.

PRO 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.

PRO 28:23 He who rebukes a man will afterward find {more} favor Than he who flatters with the tongue.

It made David look at himself objectively, the only way you can recover from a conscience that has been defiled and seared.

Nathan protects Solomon so that he becomes the next one on the throne.

2CO 10:10His letters are weighty and strong, but his personal presence is unimpressive, and his speech contemptible.”

PRO 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

PRO 27:9 Oil and perfume make the heart glad, so a mans counsel is sweet to his friend.

2SA 12:7 – “attah haish” = “You are the man!”

Since David has already judged himself, MAT 7:2, he is now going to hear the sentence from heaven.

The message from the Lord includes the four to one payment = the imputation of divine discipline, but bearable discipline.

Seared conscience = a demonstration of no respect for God, so the justice of God replies by emphasizing logistical grace support and supergrace blessing imputed to David.

“I anointed you king over Israel” = supergrace. “I delivered you from the hand of Saul” = logistical grace.

Davids capacity for this promotion was destroyed not by lack of doctrine but by allowing his conscience to become defiled and seared.

How they hear – LUK 8:18, What they hear – MAR 4:24, What they see – JOH 7:24, What they think – PHI 4:8, What they say – EPH 4:29, What they do – MAT 23:3.

Not because they lacked doctrine in their soul, but because doctrine was neutralized by their systems of arrogance and the resultant seared conscience.

The series of sins and the irresponsible actions on the part of David were the result of David being in bondage to his seared conscience.

The Lord is reminding David that He has been the recipient of many fantastic grace blessings from the justice of God.

Such grace blessings from God did not prevent David, a mature believer, from having his conscience become defiled and seared.

It takes divine discipline from the justice of God or occupation with Christ to keep a mature believer in line.
