The anthropopathisms of love and hate indicate that the omniscience of God knew that the free will of Esau would reject Christ and the free will of Jacob would believe in Christ.
Paul has made it clear that true Israel is like Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, and now Moses. All of these believed in Christ and also made it into God’s hall of fame because God dealt with them in grace and mercy.
“You become true Israel by believing in TLJC and you become a hall of famer if you tap into God’s grace and mercy.”
Paul is also making it clear that unbelieving Israel is no better than Ishmael, Esau, and now enemy #1 Pharaoh.
Pharaoh is going to be a beneficiary of one of the most unusual experiments in human history - the hardening of his heart.
“all of My goodness” = the divine decrees related to history.
The omniscience of God programmed into the computer of the divine decrees every motivation, thought, decision, and action of everyone as well as His own directive will, overruling will, and permissive will - MOTIVATED BY GRACE.
The output of the computer of divine decrees is MERCY = grace in action without violating the free will of man, i.e. “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
“name of the Lord” = person of the Lord, which is Bible doctrine.
I will reveal to you My divine decrees (grace) and My character and nature (person) through My word.
The first word for gracious is in the qal perfect, which means that God has always been gracious from EP.
In eternity past in the divine decrees God demonstrated His grace. That is His glory. But that is only part of His glory. Perfect God provides a perfect plan for imperfect persons. Until we get to heaven that is the glory of God.
God’s back represents the part of the glory of God that we can see in time, which is His person revealed in Bible doctrine.
2 Cor 3:18
But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!
God changed His mind because Moses prayed, which was already factored into the divine decrees in EP and God made provision for it.
Moses understands God’s decree (predesigned plan) and God’s grace and mercy and in incredible humility he intercedes for a people that don’t deserve it.
Jesus Christ identified Himself with the sins of the world when He hung between heaven and earth and redeemed every member of the human race.
God didn’t cause Moses to pray, but He saw that Moses would pray in EP. God didn’t cause Pharaoh to reject God after seeing more of the power of God than anyone in human history, but He saw Pharaoh reject Him in EP and God used his rejection as a megaphone for the Gospel.
