The Blood of The Lamb. Part 5.
Friday, October 17, 2003
The teaching of Bible doctrine must always be available to all believers regardless of background and economic status, another reason why a pastor-teacher should never, repeat never charge for his teachings.
MIC 3:11 Her leaders pronounce judgment for a bribe, Her priests instruct for a price, And her prophets divine for money.
The turtledove represents the deity of the Messiah but since it was brought in as a sacrifice, more than His deity was in view. This was a reminder that Christ would be the unique person of the universe – the God-man Savior.
The poorest of the poor brought that which represented the greatest aspect of the Savior which is His hypostatic union.
The gentle disposition and cleanliness of the dove made it a type of Christ in the Scriptures, but its use in both the burnt offering and the sin offering anticipated Christ’s resurrection.
The turtledove or the young pigeons abounded in the Holy Land so that the poorest could get them easily, illustrating salvation is made available to all.
2CO 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.
The “crop” of the fowl contains the food and was considered to be unclean and an emblem of man’s appetite or lusts of the flesh.
As there was nothing of man’s sinful appetites in TLJC – the “crop” was to be removed from the dove.
The “feathers” also are removed because they are a covering to the dove and it must be left quite unsheltered when the fire of judgment hits it.
These were to be cast to “the place of ashes” out of sight and thus the dove is offered in a state of purity and an unprotected state on the altar.
The first act showed Christ’s singleness of purpose and devotion to the Father’s will.
Secondly, this ritual demonstrated that even in His death, His hypostatic union remained intact.
Lev 2 – the meat offering.
Lev 3 – the peace offering.
Lev 4 – the sin offering.
1. Literal water, H2O.
2. Salvation, ISA 55:1,
REV 22:17.
3. Holy Spirit, JOH 7:37-39.
4. Word of God, EPH 5:26, 1JO 5:8.
Somatic = that which relates to the physical body.
“Water and blood” = blood clots and serum.
John 19:34, 1JO 5:6 –
we have a reference to the somatic death of the Lord Jesus Christ and wherever His somatic death is mentioned, we have literal blood.
These passages came from the fact that the Gnostics claim that Christ was never true humanity and the cross was an optical illusion.
The Gnostics taught that there was a special, higher truth that only the enlightened receive from God and they maintained that matter is evil and that Christ was not really human.
The Gnostics believed that knowledge was the way to salvation.
When our Lord’s heart and lung action ceased, His blood began to sink to the dependent parts of His body, His internal organs.
Side – pleura = the part of the body where there are no bones or the chest cavity.
If He was still physically alive on the Cross after salvation was complete, His physical death could have nothing whatever to do with the payment for sin.
They were very particular about the superficialities of life while ignoring, avoiding or rejecting the things of eternal importance.
Paraskeue = the day when the Jews prepared either for a weekly Saturday Sabbath or for a special feast Sabbath.
The Jews were preparing to carry out the Feast of Unleavened Bread. This seven-day ritual taught every generation of Jews to remember the deliverance from Egypt, provided in grace by the power of the impeccable second Person of the Trinity, TLJC, EXO 13:3-10.
It was the Roman custom to leave a body nailed to the cross until the flesh rot away.
Jewish Law demanded that the body of any criminal be put out of the sight during a Sabbath or feast day in order not to pollute the land, DEU 21:22-23.
These Jews were pompous and self-righteous in their strict observance of ritual, but inside they were arrogant, jealous, filled with pettiness and hatred, and always ready to retaliate against anyone who dared challenge their inflated self-importance, Mat 23.
In order to be able to take them down before the Sabbath the soldiers pounded their legs until their bones were crushed.
In deeper shock and unable to force themselves up to receive the pressure on their muscles, the thieves could not exhale in their lungs and died of suffocation.
The fact that the soldiers did not break His legs is a fulfillment of specific promises contained in the Old Testament Scriptures, EXO 12:46; NUM 9:12;
PSA 34:20; cf., JOH 19:36,37.
EXO 12:46 It is to be eaten in a single house; you are not to bring forth any of the flesh outside of the house, nor are you to break any bone of it.
NUM 9:12 They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break a bone of it; according to all the statute of the Passover they shall observe it.
PSA 34:20 He keeps all his bones; Not one of them is broken.
In spite of the insidiously evil demands of the religious Jews, in spite of Pontius Pilate’s orders, in spite of the entire Roman army, not one bone could ever be broken because God keeps His Word – no matter what is involved!
God always honors and respects His Word, and therefore Bible doctrine resident in your soul is your source of confidence and security.
REV 12:11 And they overcame him because of the doctrine applied by means of their testimony.
