JUD 2:16, Then the LORD raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of the enemies.
In the days of the Judges GOD’s people worshipped Dagon and Baal. Nowadays those false GOD’s are still here.
However, even though human civilization has changed tremendously
over the years, human nature (regardless of what one may think) has not changed.
After Joshua died there was a whole generation who didn’t know the LORD and what HE had done for Israel.”
“Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served the Baals (more than one).”
When man forgets the Word of GOD, forsaking the GOD of the Word is right around the corner.
DEU 28:25, The LORD shall cause you to be defeated before your
enemies; you will go out one way against them, but you will flee seven ways before them.
But God did not forget HIS covenant – and because of His great love for HIS people, HE disciplined His sinful children so that they might return to HIM.
They believed that GOD was with them in the hills, but not in the lowlands.
Israel became satisfied with far less than what GOD wanted them to have, and far less than what GOD had provided for them. Once we satisfy ourselves with less than GOD’s best for us, we will never be what GOD wants us to be.
And I’m sure everyone can make the analogy that we cannot go further in GOD’s plan for their life while living a lifestyle of sin.
So, the LORD, unwanted by Israel allows an enemy to make slaves of HIS people – a bondage that would last 8 years!
ROM 12:3, For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
EPH 1:18-19, I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
EPH 6:10, Finally, be strong in the LORD and in his mighty power.
GOD brings us to the wilderness so that we can rest if we listen.
The wilderness is a place without distractions, so that we can listen. GOD brought Moses and the Israelites there, HE brought Elijah there, and HE brought the LORD Jesus Christ there.
If HE brings you there, listen.
18 is the number meaning bondage, remember the woman in LUK 13:10-11, Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years.
When we worship HIM and put HIM first, we experience HIS highest and best for us. When we turn from HIM, worship idols (which come in many forms), and make other things a greater priority than HIM, HE allows us to suffer. It’s a matter of free will.
It actually means to be bound or handicapped in that he was limited to using only his left hand.
Most warriors in the ancient world were trained to use their weapons from the left side. This due to using their right hand.
This shows us that there are times when GOD ordains war to liberate people from oppression.
We probably all could cite something that we could use as an excuse thinking it a limitation. I’m too old, too short, too fat…whatever.
You see the thing is HE is not limited by our disability!
The verse does suggests some amazement at the unusual situation in which a woman actually has to judge Israel.
Most scholars agree it is at a minimum, out of the ordinary, something is abnormal, something is wrong—there are no men to function as judge!
