There is a consistent Harmony in the Gospels. Although attempts by skeptics abound they all fail to show disparity.
Mark was the younger cousin of Barnabas, who was one of the leaders of the Church in Antioch.
Don’t hold grudges! If we can be forgiven of our Sins, we too can forgive. And here’s an interesting thing, the LORD forgets about our trespasses. HE only commands us to forgive others.
Mark was the personal assistant to some very important people in the Bible. One of course was Peter. One was Barnabas, one was the Apostle Paul.
CH 1 John the Baptizer tells of one who will baptize not with water, but with the Holy Spirit. Jesus is baptized.
Jesus is tempted for forty days in the wilderness.
John is imprisoned, Jesus preaches the kingdom of GOD.
HE chooses disciples, drives out a demon, heals Peter’s mother-in-law. HE goes through Galilee, heals a leper.
2 Jesus heals the paralytic carried by four men. Jesus tells the man his sins are forgiven, the scribes object. Levi the tax collector is called. Jesus is criticized by the scribes for dining at the house of Levi with sinners. Jesus says the Sabbath was made for man, not vice versa.
3 Jesus heals on the Sabbath (a Sabbath miracle remember HE did 7 of them…) HE heals multitudes; he commands them not to tell anyone what he has done. Jesus answers those who attribute his work to Satan. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. Whoever does the will of God is Jesus’ brother and sister and mother.
4 Jesus teaches by the sea. The parables of the sower. Jesus quotes Isaiah, about those who see but do not perceive. Lamps are not to be put under beds or baskets. Whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. The parable of the growing seed: the farmer plants the seed, but another power makes it grow. Parable of the mustard seed, which goes from something very small to something very big. Jesus rebukes the waves in a boat.
5 A possessed man who could not be restrained is cured by Jesus. The demon says ‘my name is Legion’; Jesus grants permission for them to enter swine, and go into the sea and drown.
sus to depart.
Jesus tells the man to reveal to others what great things the LORD has done for him. A ruler of the synagogue, Jarius, asks Jesus to heal his daughter. A woman is healed of a hemorrhage by touching Jesus’ garment (we saw that in detail).
10 “For Moses said, ‘HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER’; and, ‘HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER, IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH’;
This was also prophesied by Isaiah who said the Messiah would heal the deaf cause them to also speak in ISA 35. So it was a fulfillment of prophecy as well.
This was not a friendly encounter. The word tested could be translated tempted. The Pharisees tempted Jesus to perform a miraculous sign just as Satan tempted HIM to do so in the wilderness.
Those who believe that if people see enough signs they will come to faith presume to know more than Jesus did. He condemned the generation who sought a sign.
Herod saw it more as political power and authority, and the Pharisees saw it as more spiritual power and authority, but they still saw the kingdom in this high-minded way.
Part 2 of the question is not only for the Disciples but for us and ultimately everyone. Here it is.
“But who do you say that I am?”
And it was Peter who answered for the rest: “You are the Christ.” You are the Messiah the anointed one.
