California Conference 2006. Part 2.

The first system of evil was the Phallic cult and the worship of Baal.

There was another group who reacted to this immoral degeneracy with moral degeneracy, and the moral degeneracy groups were legalistic.

Prosperity leads to apostasy when there is NVTD.

Past victory is no guarantee of future victory.

The Hebrew style is to state the case, then give the details.

What they did was to take over the entire economy and plunder it.

In verse 1, they did evil in the sight of the Lord.Â
In verse 6, they cried unto the Lord.

They did not want a day by day intake of Bible doctrine, but rather they waited until they got into a jam and then their attitude was – help us Lord!

1CO 16:22 If anyone does not love the Lord, let him be accursed. Maranatha.

1CO 16:22 If anyone does not love the Lord [does not have a friendly affection for Him and is not kindly disposed toward Him], he shall be accursed! Our Lord will come! (Maranatha!)

He sent them a preacher to give them the message.

The trouble was that many of them were believers, but they had completely neglected the Word of God and there were no spiritual champions taking over.

The priests of Israel taught from the written Word.
The prophets of Israel communicated the spoken Word of God.

Why deliver a lot of nit wits?
Why deliver a lot of losers?

PRO 1:7b Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
PRO 1:22b fools hate knowledge?
PRO 23:9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words.

1CO 11:19 For there must also be factions among you, in order that those who are approved may have become evident among you.

In verse 8, the name of the prophet is not given under the principle –
it is not the man; it is the message.

ISA 29:24 And those who err in mind will know the truth, And those who criticize will accept instruction.

If you choose to neglect the intake of Bible doctrine or to attack and discredit any ministry that is teaching doctrine, it will result in suffering that is self-induced misery.

You will not be SSS.
You will not have SSE.
 You will not be content.

You cannot learn while talking.

The prophet is going to tell the people what their problem is in one Hebrew verb or one sentence –
“lo shama qowl” – You are not listening to My Word.

PSA 103:2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits;

They did not earn or deserve liberation from Egypt just like you and I have not earned or deserved liberation from the cosmic system.

God was faithful to them, He liberated the Jews from slavery, and not only does He say in verse 8, “It was I who brought you up from Egypt,” but He also says, “I brought you out from the house of slavery.”

A good foundation in the start of a nation does not imply a good history.

For a good history to be continued from a good foundation, a spiritual heritage or real spiritual champions are needed.

Just like there had to be ten righteous to save Sodom and Gomorrah, or 300 in our passage, there must be a certain percentage of spiritual champions.

Obeyed – kal perfect – shama = literally to listen.

1. The laws of divine establishment.
2. The Gospel.
3. Bible doctrine.

Now that they were hostages to the Arabs they were suddenly willing to listen.

The believers had to advance to spiritual adulthood.
Leadership for the crisis was also needed.

Gideon has had no leadership experience, no military training, no family greatness, no apparent ability.
The first right decision that he made was to believe on TLJC.

Gideon was just a smiter of wheat, but he will become a smiter of Arabs.
The phrase “O valiant warrior” or “O mighty man” or “O brave hero” is actually divine sarcasm.

He has doctrine already resident in his soul, but it is doctrine which has been sitting there but not applied.

In Gideon’s life the raw material is there.

This promise from TLJC, JDG 6:12 “The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior,” is designed to do one thing, to stimulate application or to stimulate thinking.

This is how to make a hero out of a coward or a champion out of a loser.

Gideon did not understand that the Jews had brought all of this upon themselves with their own negative volition.

Believers who are not applying doctrine want miracles.

It takes doctrine to perform the miracle of changing people, not the miracle per se.

God has not forsaken the Jews; the Jews have forsaken God.

In his subjectivity, he is blaming God for the bad decisions of the people.

HEB 12:6 For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, And He scourges every son whom He receives.

The background again for this particular passage is the fact that Israel had ignored God for 40 years.

When the miracles are performed and when they are over, Gideon is no different and the Arabs are still in the land, still raping, still robbing, still killing, still torturing the Jews.

We are going to see several miracles, and we will learn from this that God does not intend to use miracles to deliver believers or to deliver a nation.

No nation has ever been destroyed by an enemy without; first of all, the nation destroys itself from within via negative volition such as immoral degeneracy as well as moral degeneracy.

These miracles are merely a part of Gideon’s basic leadership training.

Good strategy and tactics or thinking doctrine.

He has been hiding in his father’s fortification in the mountains.

He is going to do everything wrong, which is sometimes the way to learn to do everything right.

The miracles which will be performed by God on his behalf did not and could not provide for him SSE.
The purpose of miracles is to show the weaknesses of mankind and the strength of God.

You look at the miracles performed in the Old Testament and you will find a wimpy generation of cowards whining, such as the Jews did 40 years in the wilderness.

God will use miracles to train Gideon, but when it comes to getting the Arabs out of the land, application of doctrine is needed.

The Arabs will be defeated and driven out of the land with no miracles, but rather military action led by the thinking of a spiritual champion.

1. To draw attention to the message or gospel.
2. To identify the strong man.
3. Because of the weakness of believers.

Halak = to march.
Yalak = to go –
Go march.

The first thing the Lord is revealing = you do not have power by being disorganized in your life.

TLJC is saying, march in this power of yours.
The power or the might is called “thy might or thy power” – it is the power of Gideon’s.

“March in this power of yours” = residual doctrine.

Deliever – hiphil perfect – jasha = to deliver or save; hiphil stem is causative active voice.

“Lord” = sir.

You are never going to be a leader or a winner unless first of all you are honest with yourself.

You have to be honest with yourself, and therefore you have to be honest about yourself.

Manasseh had a very poor war record; they were the cowards of Israel.

If you are subjective you will fantasize.
If you are objective you will realize.

Surely – Hebhajah –
kal imperfect = most assuredly or emphatically, I will be with you.

You shall defeat or nakah slaughter the Midianites as one man.

Kill – harag = to kill the enemy in battle or to execute the criminal.

Violence can be right timing or it can be wrong timing.
If you are in the military or law enforcement, there are times when you must practice violence.

A “time to kill” refers not only to capital punishment for criminals, but also to the fact that when you serve your country in the military, you should kill the enemy, for that is your job.

The Bible does not say, “You shall not kill;” it says, “You shall not murder.”

Defeat – nakah = to wipe out completely, to annihilate.

Gideon has made an identification now; he realizes that the angel of the Lord is a theophany or TLJC.

God is going to perform a miracle to cause occupation with Christ, but not to deliver the Jews from the Arabs.

Before he becomes a spiritual champion he must have SSE.
Before he has SSE he must be occupied with Christ.

Gideon wants the Lord to perform a little miracle, so he can be sure that the big miracle will take place.

Gideon is going to defeat the Arabs with thought or mentality, not with miracles.

He wants a sign; our Lord’s words are not good enough.
He wants a miracle or an experience.

Gideon is actually saying, “If it’s really you, Lord, show me a miracle.”

Doctrine is much more powerful than miracles!

The whole reason why man was created is for man to fulfill God’s will.
Man emphasizes miracles in his arrogance, but God emphasizes doctrine.

Offering – minchah = a food offering or an offering of respect.

It is a sacrificial offering because since the Arabs have been in the land there has been a food shortage.

ROM 12:1 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, {which is} your spiritual service of worship.

HEB 13:16 And do not neglect doing good and sharing; for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
