This day was celebrated by the Hebrews as a holy day a day of rest and rejoicing, by ceasing from all labor, with their servants and all strangers, as well as cattle and rest even to plants — they were not to be eared or reaped on that day.

Also, a special burned offering, presented in the Temple, in addition to the usual daily offering — which was doubled on this day — consisting of two yearling lambs, with the meat offerings and drink offerings belonging to it.

The services of the priests and Levites in and about the tabernacle and Temple were not accounted labor (comp.Matt 12:5), and continued through the Sabbath. Circumcision, too, as a religious ceremony, took place on the Sabbath, when that was the eighth day.

Matt 12:5
Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath, and are innocent?

COL 2:11
and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;

By seeking to kill Him they are violating the Law because Christ did not profane the Sabbath by working; Ex 20:13 “You shall not murder.”

Christ came secretly to Jerusalem this time so that His words would be heard by the many in the temple before the Jewish elders had a chance to lay their hands on Him.

Like all trapped weasels, they have a lie at the ready, a rumor that they were already spreading about Him, which was that He was demon possessed.

If you can’t discredit the message, discredit the man – World System Field Manual.

The perfect humanity of Christ chose to speak the divine truth that He learned from God throughout His first Advent.

The perfect humanity of Christ chose not to use His deity as a shortcut to learning the entire plan of God, and as our forerunner and the One who sets our precedence; we should not look for shortcuts either.

The kosmos offers shortcuts to everything and it’s all a lie that appeals to our laziness and our approbation lust. There are no shortcuts. Christ picked up His cross and made the long trip from the Praetorian to Golgotha. He asks us to pick up our own cross and follow Him.

The Jews were seeking to kill Jesus based on the fact that He healed a man on the Sabbath.
