Verse 7 is a command to the believer in reversionism at the time they receive this epistle. It should be translated, “stop becoming (present active indicative of ginomai) partners with them.”
The reversionistic believer becomes a partner with the unbeliever, imitates the unbeliever, and acts and thinks like an unbeliever.
Since believers are members of the royal family of God they must bear the family resemblance, which is imitating the humanity of Christ and operating in love under the royal family honor code.
The family resemblance of nobility and royalty comes from the filling of the Spirit, the daily function of perceiving and metabolizing doctrine, resulting in the completed soul structure plus the entrance into the super-grace life.
There is a list of assets on each one of us in the divine decrees in which are enumerated the blessings of the super-grace life. The great hindrance to this is moving into some phase of reversionism.
If we have been set free from the darkness the condition of the unbeliever type soul should no longer exist.
Light is doctrine in the soul constructing the things designed for us by God in eternity past.
Ps 119:105
Thy word is a lamp to my feet,
And a light to my path [fulfillment of predestination].

The unfolding of Thy words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.

O send out Thy light and Thy truth, let them lead me;
Let them bring me to Thy holy hill,
And to Thy dwelling places.
ROM 13:12
The night is almost gone, and the day is at hand. Let us therefore lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
Luke 1:78-79
Because of the tender mercy of our God, With which the Sunrise from on high shall visit us, To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace."
“walk” - peripateo - lifestyle or the Christian way of life. It is progressive. When you pick up your foot to walk you have to put it back down and pick up the other. We never arrive.
Prov 24:16
For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again,
But the wicked stumble in time of calamity.
In the word of God we are called to walk by the Spirit (GAL 5:16), walk by faith (COL 2:6), walk by our election (EPH 4:1), and walk in doctrine (3Jn 3).
“children” - teknon - a) children under authority and b) students. We will never grow up if we don’t recognize authority. We are under the authority of the pastor/teacher and we are students of the word of God.
“light” - photos - the result of growing up spiritually is the shining forth of the Shekinah Glory through the production of divine good.
We don’t gain the assets of election and predestination; we already have them and are them, but in time, the mind and the soul, and especially the part of the soul called the heart, have to catch up with the glorious truth of our position.
