“Believes” – pres-act-part of Pisteuo =
a non-meritorious system of perception.

“In Him” – “Him” = the pronoun referring to Jesus Christ, the gift. He is the object of faith in salvation,
(Acts 16:31).

“Shall not perish” =
“perish” – apollumi [apo = preposition of ultimate source; ollumi = to die or to destroy] = to destroy from the ultimate source of yourself.

“But have eternal life” =
echo zoen aionion.
Echo = (to have and to hold) – present tense = you keep on having everlasting life.
Aionion = to have no beginning and no end.

If more Christians only realized that Christ came to save and not judge they would be more occupied with saving than judging and with giving rather than getting.

1 JOH 3:16
We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

1 Tim 2:6
who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony borne at the proper time.

JOH 8:12
Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

“loved” = agapao =
M.A. love, their M.A. reveals what system they love or what kingdom they love.

“Darkness” = skotos = moral and immoral darkness, = the OSN in action (remember this is being said to Nicodemus).

Any human good performed by the OSN is called dead works,
(HEB 6:1).

HEB 6:1
Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

“Does” = prasso = to practice or have a lifestyle = to be out of fellowship and under the control of the OSN.

“Evil” = phaulos = worthless.
All sin is evil but all evil is not sin. Evil can also refer to human good.

1) Human good is identified as dead works, (HEB 6:1).

2) Human good cannot save mankind. God rejects humans good,
(TIT 3:5; EPH 2:8-9).

TIT 3:5
He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

EPH 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.

3) Human good is not acceptable to God.
ISA 64:6
Our righteousness are as filthy rags in His sight.

4) Human good is condemned in the believer at the judgment seat of Christ,
(1CO 3:11-15).

5) Human good in the unbeliever is judged and condemned at the GWTJ,
(REV 20:11-15).

The unbeliever stands before God for one reason because he is an unbeliever. And he is judged according to all his human good.

The light represents God’s system of doing things, which is grace! Grace has nothing to do with human good or legalism.

A person into legalism hates grace. Legalism and religion are forms of slavery and it causes individuals to either backslide or become arrogant.

His deeds here does not refer to his sins but his human good. Remember the Lord is talking to a Pharisee.

Knowledge of doctrine plus the filling of the Spirit produces divine good. Ignorance plus carnality equals human good.

“Practices” is different here. The word is no longer prasso but
poieo = to produce. To produce truth is to produce divine good.

We only produce divine good when we are walking in the light and then our deeds are exposed for their true character; the character and virtue from God.

ROM 12:1
I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

When a believer has knowledge of doctrine and the filling of the Spirit he has the power to be a true worshipper of God,
(JOH 4:24).

Those who draw to the light, practice the truth, and are filled with the Spirit have deeds that are produced from the character and virtue of God and they make the local assembly possible.

Even believers who hear doctrine over and over again will reject what they hear because their true love is darkness and not light.

= ergazomai = to produce.
When we are walking in the light the natural result is divine production.
