God does not engage in combat with His children, He admonishes, disciplines and gently re-directs.

REV 3:19 Those whom I (Phileo) love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.

God in His infinite loving nature & long suffering attitude will whisper, nudge, gently contacts (Long & Mid range) before He intimately confronts (Close range).

Jacob wrestling with the Lord is as much about Jacob wrestling with his own negative volition as it is about the Lord intimately confronting him.

GEN 32:1 Now as Jacob went on his way, the angels of God met him. This is God getting closer, a mid-range wake up call.

JER 2:19 Your own wickedness will correct you, and your apostasies will reprove you, it is evil and bitter to forsake the Lord your God.

If you are not operating within the will of God for your life, you are destined to become antagonistic toward it.

GEN 32:24 Jacob was left alone, many times it is our own utter helplessness that becomes the opponent in close range combat.

GAL 5:17 The flesh sets its desire against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh, they are in opposition to one another.

Man’s finite nature will sometimes only respond to a primitive attack in order to change course.

There are times when we press so hard against the will of God we are broken in a divine way that remains with us for a lifetime as a reminder.

2CO 12:7 Skolops – pointed or sharpened object, Sarx – flesh or the natural body of man, apart from divine nature.

To buffet or torment, is the pres, act, subj of Kolafizw, meaning a forceful blow like a punch.

Thorns are associated with the curse and the sin of mankind, GEN 3:18.

The unconquered inhabitants of the land were called thorns of Israel. NUM 33:55, JUD 2:3, JOS 23:13.

The thorn can represent negative volition PRO 22:5, PRO 26:9

In the Millennium we see the removal of a curse (thorns). ISA 55:13, Ezk 28:24.

Thorns are related to economic depressionrecession JER 12:13.

Thorns are represented as the details of life, negative decisions. MAT 13:7-22.

Thorns were used in the crown on Jesus Christ to indicate the sins of others that He must pay for before He can go on to rule in eternity.

Thorn is used to express that pressure and suffering which then ignites grace orientation in the Bels life. 2CO 12:7.

Romans 7 is Paul’s own experience & conquering of the OSN as well the lesson for this church.

ROM 8:1 There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Paul’s lesson is one of struggle and the path to victory.
