The Galilean gimmick – the Christ was supposed to come from Bethlehem and you’re a Galilean. This was used by those who rejected Him to discredit Him.
1 Cor 10:21
You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.
1 Tim 4:1
But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,
Satan has promoted a false doctrine for every true doctrine in the word of God, especially concerning the person of Christ.
2 Cor 2:11
in order that no advantage be taken of us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.
“the Prophet,” is specifically the person mentioned in DEU 18:15.
Deut 18:15
The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him.
Deut 18:18
‘I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
Deut 18:19 ‘And it shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.
There are two people who are categorised as the prophet. In the Old Testament “the prophet” is Moses; in the New Testament “the Prophet” is Jesus Christ.
This must be classified as positive volition toward Him through identification of an Old Testament passage, and this is the way some responded to the Lord – their knowledge of the Old Testament.
Word of God is a direct testimony to the Son of God.
There were others who came to an understanding of the person of Christ in an independent way, apart from the OT scripture and directly from the message of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Whether a member of the human race comes to faith in Christ from reading Scripture, from hearing the Gospel through another, or any other means the issue is and always has been, “what do you think of the Christ?”
Hearing the Gospel awakens the eternal desire (ECC 3:11), and if the Gospel is rejected scar tissue pierces the heart, but the unbeliever will justify his NV so that the pain will not continue.
When a creature of God rejects God’s offering of the Gospel they have to make an excuse as to why or else the pain in their conscience will be too much for them.
They kept on saying – imperfect of lego – every time they heard the message; they kept on rejecting, rejecting, rejecting.
“How can the Christ come out of Galilee?” (NIV) – This is the Galilee gimmick.
We know his father Joseph and his brothers and sisters. He eats with sinners. He’s a drunk and a glutton. He works on the Sabbath. He has a demon. And now – he’s from Galilee.
John 8:44
“You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.
