The dispensation of Israel, Part 6. The New Covenant to Israel not to the Church.
Friday, July 25, 2008
The New Covenant to Israel, JER 31:31-34; cf. HEB 8:8-12; 10:15-17.
Those days refer to the time in JER 31:29 when God promises to destroy Israel’s enemies and restore and bless them as a nation.
The New Covenant guarantees Israel a converted heart as the foundation of all her blessings, JER 31:31-34.
Has the sun, the moon, the stars, the sea, departed from the universe or from the Lord?
The offspring of Israel has not ceased from being a nation before God FOREVER.
Can the heavens above be measured, or the depths and of the earth searched out below?
Then God has not cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done!
ROM 11:1-2 I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?
Anti-Israel Agenda such as the Presbyterian denomination, United Church of Christ, the Episcopal Church, the World Council of Churches, Lutheran Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church, United Methodist Church, just to name a few.
JOH 6:60 Many therefore of His disciples, when they heard {this} said, “This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?”
JOH 6:66 As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew, and were not walking with Him anymore.
1. A Nation forever
2. A Land forever
3. A King forever
4. A Throne forever
5. A Kingdom forever
6. A New Covenant
7. Abiding blessings
a. It is an unconditional grace covenant resting on the “Five I will’s of God.”
1. “I will” put My law within them.
2. On their heart “I will” write it;
3. “I will” be their God, and they shall be My people.
4. “I will” forgive their iniquity,
5. Their sin “I will” remember no more.
1. In ISA 14:13 Satan said in his heart, “I will ascend to heaven;”
2. In ISA 14:13, Satan also was thinking to himself, “I will raise my throne above the stars or the shining ones of God,”
3. In ISA 14:13, he was scheming and planning even more when he thought to himself, “I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north.”
4. In ISA 14:14, he also thought to himself “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;”
- clouds represent the divine presence of God or His glory.
5. In ISA 14:14, he finally reached the epitome of arrogance when he actually believed he would make himself like the Most High.
Ultimately he and all the rebellious angels will learn once again that the unconditional grace assets and power of God always destroy the arrogance of those who are independent toward Him.
a. It is an unconditional grace covenant resting on the “I will” of God.
b. The New Covenant is also an everlasting covenant or is eternal.
This is closely related to the fact that it is unconditional and made in grace, ISA 61:8; EZE 37:26; JER 31:35-37.
c. The New Covenant also promises the impartation of a renewed mind and heart, regeneration, JER 31:33;
ISA 59:21.
ISA 59:21 “And as for Me, this is My covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My Spirit which is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth,” - shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says the Lord, “from now and forever.”
d. The New Covenant provides for restoration to the favor and blessing of God, HOS 2:19-20; ISA 61:9.
e. Forgiveness of sin is also included in the New Covenant with Israel, JER 31:32.
f. The indwelling of the H.S. is also included in the New Covenant - the indwelling of God the Holy Spirit to teach the Jewish believers, JER 31:33-34; EZE 36:27.
g. There will also be materialistic blessings for Israel in the land according to the provisions of the New Covenant, JER 32:41; ISA 61:8; EZE 34:25-27.
h. The Jewish Temple or sanctuary will also be rebuilt in Jerusalem, EZE 37:26-27.
i. War shall cease and peace shall reign, HOS 2:18.
ISA 2:4 And He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; And they will hammer their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they learn war.
j. The blood of TLJC is the foundation of all the blessings of the New Covenant - ZEC 9:11 As for you also, because of the blood of My covenant with you, I have set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.
1. Israel is to be re-gathered.
2. Israel is to be one nation ruled by one king.
3. Israel is no longer to be idolatrous but to be cleansed and forgiven.
4. Israel is to dwell forever in the land after the re-gathering.
5. The covenant of peace is to be “everlasting.”
6. God’s tabernacle is to be with them; i.e. He will be present with them in a visible way.
7. Israel is to be known among the Gentiles as a nation blessed of God.
This covenant is a gracious covenant that depends entirely upon the five I will’s of God for its fulfillment in JER 31:31-34.
