Slave mentality =  They would rather have security as a slave rather than freedom  as a child of God.”

“looked” =  the Qal imperfect of nasa which means that they kept on staring and they kept on concentrating on Pharaoh’s army which was the oncoming problem.

JOB 11:18  “Then you would trust, because there is hope; And you would look around and rest securely.

PSA 119:37  Turn away my eyes from looking at vanity, And revive me in Thy ways.

PSA 123:2  Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress; So our eyes   look to the Lord our God, Until He shall be gracious to us.

PRO 4:25,  Let your eyes look directly ahead, And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.

2CO 4:18  while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

  1. You can look at the problem and freak out.
  2. You can look at the solution and live in faith!
  3. You can live in denial and not deal with the reality.

They were overwhelmed by fear and they completely forgot the grace of God and the power of God and the marvelous deliverance that they had experienced just a week or so before.

JOB 7:11  “Therefore, I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit, I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

LAM 3:39   Why should any living mortal, or any man, Offer complaint in view of his sins?

PSA 77:3   When I remember God, then I am disturbed; When I sigh or complained, then my spirit grows faint.

The word for faint is the Hebrew word “ataph” which means to be clothed with depression.

Complainers walk after their own lusts, and their mouth speaks great swelling words, complimenting people for the sake of personal gain.

Phi 2:14  “Do all things without grumbling or complaining.”

We concentrate on the circumstances of pressure rather than the principles of doctrine.

We concentrate on the disaster rather than the solution.

You have to know what to concentrate on in times of pressure.

One of the main distractions in time of pressure is mentioned back in Exo 14:10, emotion, described by the word frightened.

Their  reaction of fear and panic removed any possibility of applying doctrine.

They failed to concentrate on what they had learned and allowed fear and panic to control the soul.

They expressed their fear rather than their faith.

They had to be stabilized in their mentality or else some of them would have turned back to the Egyptians “begging to be slaves”!

You will live like a slave unless you learn to become stabilized under pressure.

When you’re in a hopeless situation that’s when you need to think doctrinally.

1SA 17:47  “And that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.”

ROM 8:31  What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

When you are afraid of a thing, you give that thing power over you.

When you’re afraid of a person, you give that person power over you.

GEN 3:10  “I heard the sound of Thee in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.”

Fear causes you to become totally preoccupied with yourself.

PSA 53:5  “There they were in great fear where no fear had been;”

The combination of fear and arrogance causes many people to become mentally ill, psychotic and neurotic and motivates them to enter into the blame game.

The greater your mindset as a loser-believer while living, the greater the intensification of your fear when dying.

Emotions cannot think!

Emotion has no true courage — it has a pseudo courage.

Rev 21:8 –  the first category of individuals mentioned who will be cast into the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death,” are those who are still living in fear even in the eternal state.

The first category mentioned are not the murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, but those who have lived in fear all of their lifetime.

God loves the unbeliever still,  therefore,  He will cast them first into the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

As they lived and as they died is how they will also remain forever and ever, but even worse.

They do get better in the eternal state because they know the truth, they get worse.

EPH 4:22  that the old sin nature keeps on  being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit.

Arrogance and emotional domination of the soul produce cowardice and fear is irrational and irresponsible.

Fear not only removes Bible doctrine from number one priority in the life, but fear fragments and destroys the function of your spiritual life and moves you into the eight stages of reversionism.

  1. Blackout of the soul.
  2. Scar tissue of the soul.
  3. Reverse process reversionism.

When the congregation that Moses taught was tested with regard to fear, they also entered into self-absorption.

It is when you are totally absorbed with yourself and your problems.

You want the world to center around you.

You want everyone to stop what they’re doing and help you.

To make emotion the criterion for the spiritual life is a wedding between the arrogance skills and the emotional revolt of the soul.

You need to note that normal emotional activity in the soul functions in subordination to the absolutes of Bible doctrine circulating in the soul.

Regardless of what it is, emotion is never a tool of cognition.

You do not learn by emotion.

God gave us emotion as a enjoyer of what is truth.

Sinful emotional activity such as fear, worry, anxiety, hatred, anger, revenge, guilt are reactions and totally rejected by the absolutes of Bible doctrine.

You cannot be afraid without putting an abnormal emphasis on yourself.

To the extent that you become frightened by anything, to that extent you set up a new circuit in your life which is slavery and arrogance.

When you have the correct point of doctrine, you can say as David did when facing Goliath, “The battle is the Lord’s.”

Fear and the function of your spiritual life are mutually exclusive.

For the believer who lives in a state of fear, the fear increases like a disease.  As the cancer of fear increases, that individual becomes intimidated by life.

Fear eliminates a personal sense of destiny, so that the loser believer cannot overcome emotional sins like fear, worry, anxiety, guilt, denial, projection.

This fear is designed to destroy what you have learned so that the rate of learning gives way to the rate of forgetting.

Deu 31:6 Be strong and of courageous, do not be afraid because of them, for the Lord your God or literally Jehovah your Elohim is the one who goes with you, He will not fail you nor forsake you.

They were believers who completely failed even though they were exposed to magnificent doctrine and promises from the Word of God, as well as having one of the greatest Bible teachers of all time, a man called Moses.

******* SAM shield—-can you make the fonts a different color that can be seen better? TU *******

Because they refused to operate in the faith-rest drill, this generation of Jews,  with a few exceptions, were excluded from ever setting foot into the promise land.

It wasn’t a matter of their salvation but the fact that they could not handle stress, they could not handle pressure.

2TI 1:7  For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and discipline.

PSA 103:2  Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits;

ISA 5:4 “What more was there to do for My vineyard that I have not done in it?

What really was a shock to them was the suddenness that came upon them.

Adversity is in evitable, stress is optional.

Adversity is what someone or something does to you, stress is what you do to yourself.

  1. Overt pressure–which in this study will be classified as adversity.
  2. Inner pressure of the soul–which is classified as stress.
  3. Adversity is an outside pressure in life; stress is an inside pressure of the soul.
  4. Stress is what you do to yourself; adversity is what the circumstances of life do to you.

Adversity is inevitable; stress is optional.

It was the sudden stress that got to them.

Many believers are just not in the spiritual condition to pick up and use the shield of faith.

Psa 56:3   “When I am afraid I will trust in you.

Batach =  the word for body slamming or casting all your worries upon the Lord.

True faith always selects something that is stronger than the problems that one faces.

The faith itself is nothing except for the fact that faith itself reaches out and selects a promise from God or better yet, a doctrine to handle the stress.

Doctrine resident in the soul is the faith that you have which has been stored up in your human spirit.

Prin – The suddenness of adversity and even from prosperity, or what appears to be prosperity, causes many believers stress.

The Jews have just been freed from slavery and therefore their big problem is gone.

As they moved out from Egypt and they are rejoicing and filled with all kinds of happiness,  then “all of a sudden” a situation of adversity comes to you, and then you become filled with a lot of stress.

They wanted to return to slavery, even though they had just been delivered by Jehovah Elohim and they also had one of the greatest leaders in all of human history, Moses, leading them.

The slave mentality is that the individual would rather have security rather than freedom.

They would rather be slaves to Egypt (world) then to be free in the desert (or really the spiritual life).

Israel is often a perfect picture of our own soul.

The solution is the divine solution and it is found in the faith-rest drill as a problem solving device.
