The word rabble actually means the crowd, the mob, or the lowlife, and notice it says the rabble who were among them had greedy desires.
Some scholars say that it is a reference to gentiles who joined the people of Israel when they left Egypt. The Hebrew word is asaphsuph and it means a collection of people.
The mixed multitude were actually the gentiles who left Egypt with the Jews at the time of the Exodus. They included Egyptians, Ethiopians, Arabs and others.
Greedy desires refers to lustful desires.
They had enough problems with their own ability to handle the situation, and so the last thing they needed was to be around others who were negative as well.
1. Separation is the application of metabolized doctrine to certain relationships in life.
2. Separation is the technique of switching from personal love to impersonal love when dealing with friends or loved ones in the cosmic system.
3. Separation is based upon the perception of doctrine by which one establishes his priorities in life.
a. Separation unto is the principle of perpetuating momentum in the PPOG.
It is momentum from metabolized doctrine with personal love for God as the #1 priority.
Separation unto involves occupation with Christ.
This means that we separate "unto" TLJC.
b. After separation "unto" there is a second type of separation which is known as "separation from" which should be applied to both believers and unbelievers in the cosmic system.
It does not always have to be physical separation.
There are two categories of separation from people.
First - mental separation.
In mental separation, there is one-way antagonism from those in the cosmic system toward you.
Your volition protects you from becoming antagonistic toward them by your use of impersonal unconditional love.
It means that you have the alternatives to follow them or take up your cross (mental separation) and follow the Lord.
Usually their influence is so great on the believer that he is tempted by their love to join them in the cosmic system.
To avoid this negative influence, the believer can maintain his correct priorities by mental preparation and separation, switching from personal love to impersonal love.
Mental separation emphasizes the integrity, honor and doctrinal application of the believer residing inside the PPOG.
Impersonal love is not influenced by those loved ones who are residing in the cosmic system, who are apostate and antagonistic to doctrine.
Impersonal love emphasizes personal love for God while setting aside the functions of personal love for friends or loved ones.
Mental separation, in contrast to physical separation, is therefore a separation which avoids maligning, judging, hating, criticizing, seeking revenge, hurting those with whom you've been intimate in the past.
2. Physical separation.
There are some cases where switching from personal love to impersonal love will not work.
Getting false information in the local church.
You must leave physically as well as under the principle of impersonal love.
When a woman is used as a punching bag by her husband, she should leave.
Physical separation means to avoid any personal contact with a person under any circumstances.
Pro 13:20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, but a companion of fools shall become corrupted.
It's amazing how dissatisfied people pick up on anything to add to their dissatisfaction.
If they had more meat, more quails, then they would have said we want more manna!
One philosopher says that the weakest and most fearful individuals in life are the revengeful and implacable.
Prin- If you're dissatisfied about one thing, you're going to end up being dissatisfied about everything.
These are people who are negative toward doctrine and therefore negative toward life.
Not all the mixed multitude were involved by the way, for there is an Ethiopian princess who will become the second wife of Moses and she is the opposite of this.
Retrospective lust = looking back on or dealing with past events or situations.
If you're dissatisfied about your present situation you always lust for something that you had in the past.
Memory has a way of filtering out the bad things about the past and cause to think that things were not really like they seem.
You look back and talk about the good old days and you forget all about the bad things...and that is because you're dissatisfied with the present.
PRO 26:11 Like a dog that returns to its vomit Is a fool who repeats his folly.
2PE 2:22 It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "A dog returns to its own vomit," and, "A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire."
OBA 1:3 "The arrogance of your heart has deceived you,"
JER 48:29 "We have heard of the pride of Moab he is very proud Of his haughtiness, his pride, his arrogance and his self exaltation.
JER 48:30 "I know his fury," declares the Lord, "But it is futile; His idle boasts have accomplished nothing.
They wanted what Egypt or the world could give.
appetite - nephesh which also means soul, and this is a perfect description of these negative individuals....there is soul is gone or dried up.
Isn't it something how the Lord puts us in certain situations where there is nothing to look at except manna.....or his food from heaven (BD).
2CO 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing greatness of the power may be of God and not from ourselves;
2TI 1:14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.
In Deu 32:2 My doctrine will drop as the rain.
Their appetite and their capacity for food is gone.
They have physical anorexia because they have spiritual anorexia.
Spiritual anorexia = Lack of desire for Bible doctrine based upon the amount of trash in the heart combined with the function of the Old Sin Nature.
PRO 23:7 For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, "Eat and drink!" But his heart or her emotional jealousy vindictive revengeful heart is not with you.
Coriander is white and shaped like pearls.
Bdellium is a gum resin which was transparent white.
God did not discipline the Jews, they did it to themselves.
The quail was stacked 36" deep on the surface of the ground....about a yard high and over 40 miles,
They wanted meat and they had it, God gave it to them...a yard high for 40 miles.
