The Doctrine of the Divine Decrees. Part 10.

Friday, August 31, 2007

Point 3: The principle of the pre-creation reality and the subject of lapsarianism.

Lapsarianism is a theological subject dealing with the logical order of the divine decrees.

A. Elect some
B. Provide salvation
C. Create
D. Permit the Fall
E. Save the elect

Biblical lapsarianism:
A. God decreed the creation of all mankind with free will in the status of perfection for two reasons: To resolve the prehistoric angelic conflict, and to bring many sons into glory.
B. God decreed to permit the fall of mankind through the function of his own determination, his own volition as the extension of the angelic conflict into human history.
C. God decreed to provide eternal salvation for all mankind under the doctrine of unlimited atonement.
D. God decreed to leave the reprobate (those who reject Christ as Savior) to their just condemnation.
E. God decreed simultaneously in eternity past both election and predestination for believers only.

Election is the expression of the sovereign will of God in eternity past; predestination is the provision of the sovereign will of God for you so that you might execute the PPOG.

Election = equal privilege
Predestination = equal opportunity

Adjust to God’s justice or eventually be disciplined by God’s justice.

In eternity past, God the Father as the grantor deposited into escrow greater blessings for every Church-age believer,
EPH 1:3; 1PE 1:3-4.

The first thing that God ever did for us is the means of glorifying Him. That first thing was escrow blessings.

Under election, the sovereignty of God willed the highest and best for every believer and deposited that highest and best in escrow for each believer in eternity past.

“More diligent” - adverb mallon - aor-act-imp - spoudasate. Spoudasate = making every effort, doing one’s best, being eager or motivated.

2TI 2:15 “Study to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth.”

Spoudazo also means to be serious about something, being busy at doing something, paying attention to something, being zealous and eager.

The motivation comes from being "aware" of the PPOG (predestination), the angelic conflict (biblical lapsarianism), the distribution of your fantastic blessings (election).

It is the sovereign will of God that all believers are motivated by two doctrines that are mentioned in verse 10, His calling and His election.

Motivation and progressive changes are two principles that go together!
