The Doctrine of Rest from the promises of God. Part 2.

Thursday, April 17, 2008

Point 3. Rest is a fulfillment of the promises of God.

If you do not live in God’s promises which are based upon His character and nature, you won’t have rest.

If you want to live in fear of something, live in fear that you don’t live in the promises of God,
HEB 4:1.

Rest - anapauo = causes us to cease from work in order to receive His strength, to refresh, to relax, and in
LUK 12:24, it is used as a resting-place.

This word is used for people in our life who serve as a resting place, as Paul used for believers being a basis of rest for other believers -
1CO 16:18 For they have refreshed my spirit and yours. Therefore acknowledge such men.

Paul also used it concerning Philemon in -
PHM 1:20 Yes, brother, let me benefit from you in the Lord; refresh [anapauo] my heart in Christ.

2CO 7:13 For this reason we have been comforted. And besides our comfort, we rejoiced even much more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

Take my yoke upon you seems to be a strange paradox in light of the fact that the average believer, already weary and overloaded, must take a new weight upon him in order to find rest.

PSA 55:22 Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He will sustain you [Pile your troubles on GOD’s shoulders - He’ll carry your load, He’ll help you out]; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.

1PE 5:7 casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.

For the prophet Isaiah wrote that our Lord was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief, ISA 53:3.

HEB 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.

LUK 23:35 And the people stood by, looking on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, slaying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen one.”
JOH 8:59 Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple.

PSA 22:16 “they pierced His hands and His feet”
MAR 14:57 - people that He loved and died for stood up and began to give false testimony or lie about Him.
LUK 22:48 - His close friend, whom He trusted, who he ate bread with, lifted up his heel against Him and betrayed Him.
ISA 50:6 “I gave My back to those who strike Me, and My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; I did not cover My face from humiliation and spiting.”

MAT 26:67 “Then they spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him.”

ISA 53:5 “He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,”

ISA 53:7 “He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth.”
ISA 53:12 “And He was numbered with the transgressors; yet He Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors.”
LUK 23:34 But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”
ZEC 13:6 - He had wounds between His arms which He says came from being wounded in the house of His friends.

JOH 1:11 He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.
MAT 9:34 “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”
MAT 11:19 “The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners!’”

MAT 26:65-66 Then the high priest tore his robes, saying, “He has blasphemed! They answered and said, “He is deserving of death!”
MAR 3:21-22 And when His own people heard {of this,} they went out to take custody of Him; for they were saying, “He has lost His senses.” And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul”

MAR 3:30 “He has an unclean spirit”
LUK 15:2 “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”
LUK 23:2 “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar,”
LUK 23:5 But they kept on insisting, saying, “He stirs up the people,”
LUK 23:14 “This man is one who incites the people to rebellion,”

JOH 7:12 “He leads the multitude astray.”
JOH 8:48 The Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?”
JOH 10:20 And many of them were saying, “He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?”

Besides all that, He went through an experience that was the worst experience of all, having God the Father forsake Him, MAT 27:46.

The second time rest is used here it means to refresh yourself - the Christian life is one of refreshment.

ISA 30:18 - He is tapping His foot waiting to be gracious to you.

Either God is a liar (in Titus 1:2 that is impossible) or else you are not living in God’s promises.

1KI 8:56 “Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised; not one word has failed of all His good promises, which He promised through Moses His servant.”

Menuwchah = a marriage with rest or a resting place; it means to be settled in a particular place.

Menuwchah = a condition of rest:
A place of rest;
A habitation of rest.

We all have the opportunity for what we are secretly searching for, and it is within ourselves because of the life of Christ.
That is a problem, it seems, for every believer......to attain something that God has already made them to be.

Point 4. The purpose of rest.

Rest is given because it’s the only cure for sorrows, fears, and bondage. Rest is the medicine to heal you from sorrows, difficulties, and fears.

2TI 1:7 God has not given us the lifestyle of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind.

1JO 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

ROM 8:15 For you have not received the spirit (lifestyle) of bondage, but you have received the spirit of adoption.

ISA 14:3 - the purpose of rest is to deliver you from your fears, your sorrows, and your bondages.

Nuwach - a special kind of rest, it means to replace your sorrows, fears, and bondage with the comfort of rest and peace.

JER 49:23 ...For they have heard bad news; They are disheartened. There is anxiety by the sea, It cannot be calmed.

The purpose of rest then is to replace your sorrows, your fears, and your bondages.

The purpose of rest is to give us confidence and to give us divine deliverance.

JAM 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Verse 15, it is coming back and resting which will bring about these following results:
1-quietness
2-confidence (strength).
