The first mention principle is that principle by which God indicates in the first mention of a subject, the truth with which that subject stands connected in the mind of God.

Newton said, “I find in Scripture this principle of interpretation, which I believe, if conscientiously adopted, will serve as an unfailing guide to what was in the mind of God.”

Dr. A.T. Pierson - “This is a law we have long since noted, and have never yet found it to fail. The first occurrence of a word, expression, or utterance is the key to its subsequent meaning, or it will be a guide to ascertaining the essential truth connected with it.”

And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.

You will discover the more you love people with impersonal love and honor their privacy, the more the majority of them will misinterpret this treatment.

You become segregated from others as you are becoming integrated with those who have positive volition toward doctrine.

PSA 119:63 I am a companion of all those who respect Thee, And of those who keep Thy precepts.

For many of you, you kept going, and there will be a time in your life when not only your scale of values about people will change, but you are going to undergo one of the greatest changes of friends that you have ever noticed.

Out on that battlefield in no man’s land, there are not as many as there were at the start. There are people who become casualties along the way.

2CO 12:15 “And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.”

Lucifer was the Messiah’s personal angel,
Joseph’s brothers sold Joseph into slavery,
Korah, the cousin of Moses, against Moses,
Absalom was the son of David,
Judas was close to the Lord Jesus Christ.

The battlefield of no man’s land definitely thins out the ranks and definitely reveals the difference between those who have a pseudo positive volition and those who have a genuine positive volition toward doctrine.

You will discover the more you love people with impersonal love and honor their privacy, the more the majority of them will misinterpret this treatment.

(1) Fear is met and destroyed with courage.
(2) When you face your fear, most of the time you will discover that it was not really such a big threat after all.

(3) Fear defeats more people than any other one thing in the world.
(4) Most of our problems would be totally solved if, instead of fearing to face them, we should make up our minds to walk boldly through them.

(5) Whenever we are afraid, it is because we do not know enough; if we understood enough, we would never be afraid.
(6) Whenever we fear something, we give that which we fear power over us.

(7) You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.
(8) Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear.

PHI 1:28 Likewise, in no way be intimidated by your enemies - which to them [intimidation] is a manifestation of destructive ways, but with reference to you, deliverance, in fact, this [deliverance] is from the source of God.

The answer: adversaries or opponents.

As you go forward to spiritual maturity and you start getting into no man’s land, you are going to realize that sometimes you have to make sacrifices and suffer seeming losses if you are going to fulfill God’s plan.

ACT 14:22 “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”

You will discover that the worst people you will ever encounter in life are certain believers, pious types, the great con-artists, the unforgiving types, the liars and deceivers.
