The Fish Gate and the Ministry of the Holy Spirit indwelling the believer at the moment of salvation, part 1.

Wednesday, June 6, 2012

In relationship to our main passage in ROM 9:24 which says in effect that God has called even us, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles. We have been noting the correlation of the shadows and the substance of the spiritual life to illustrate the similarities found in the book of Nehemiah as it relates to the spiritual life and the mystery doctrine of the Church-age.

Using the Gates and Walls found in the book of Nehemiah as the shadows Paul writes about in COL 2:16-17, whereas the mystery doctrine of the CA equals the substance.
COL 2:16-17, Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day–things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.

a. The spiritual life of the Jew in the OT as illustrated + the Gates and Walls in Nehemiah.
b. The spiritual life of the Jews and Gentiles as illustrated by the mystery doctrine of the CA.

O.T. Shadow [Sheep Gate] points to the N.T. Substance [Salvation in Christ alone]
For TLJC did say JOH 10:2 “But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.

Or in JOH 10:7 Jesus therefore said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. JOH 10:11 “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
JOH 10:27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
O.T. Shadow [Fish Gate] point to the N.T. Substance [Ministry of God the H.S.]

The next part of the substance of the spiritual life for the Jews and Gentiles has to do with the seven-fold ministry of God the Holy Spirit at salvation.

1. Regeneration which means the Holy Spirit creates a human spirit for the imputation of eternal life, TIT 3:5. It means a second birth or being born again, as Jesus said in JOH 3:3, “Jesus said `Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a person is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’”

2. Then we have second ministry which is the Baptism of the Spirit who enters us into union with Christ, Acts 1:5; 1CO 12:13.
3. The indwelling of God the Holy Spirit who indwells our body in order to create a temple for the indwelling of Jesus Christ as the Shekinah Glory, 1CO 6:19-20.

4. The sealing ministry of God the HS which is our security as royal family in time as well as eternity, and a guarantee of the existence of our escrow blessing, 2CO 1:22; EPH 1:13; EPH 4:30.
5. The distribution of at least one spiritual gift, 1CO 12:11.

6. Efficacious grace; EPH 2:8.
7. The filling of the Holy Spirit, EPH 5:18.

The Holy Spirit indwells the body of the believer at the moment of salvation according to such passages as; 1CO 3:16; 1CO 6:19-20, JOH 14:17, ROM 8:9-11, 2TI 1:14, EPH 2:21-22.

1CO 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1CO 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

This indwelling provides the divine power to offset [to exert force against something] or offset the continued presence of the old sin nature indwelling the body after salvation.

GAL 5:17 “For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.”

A part from the filling of the Holy Spirit, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit doesn’t do much good.
The soul is the battleground in the angelic conflict, this is why David said in PSA 23:3, “He restores my soul”

COL 2:18 “Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement [false humility] and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his carnal mind”

When the old sin nature controls the soul through good or evil, you have reversionism.
When the Holy Spirit controls the soul, we call that the filling of the Holy Spirit.

Remember that the old sin nature neutralizes our ability to think spiritually.
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is also a sign of the royal family status, which is superior to being in the family of God, as believers in past dispensations were.
This is why David prayed in PSA 51:11 Do not cast me away from Thy presence, And do not take Thy Holy Spirit from me.

We receive five additional ministries of the Holy Spirit at salvation: Indwelling, sealing, spiritual gifts, filling, and baptism.

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit in other dispensations was technically the enduement of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit indwells the body of every believer but only controls the soul of the believer under the title “filling of the Holy Spirit” or “walking in the Spirit.”

Distinguish between the indwelling of the Holy Spirit which is permanent, and the filling of the Holy Spirit which is temporary depending on the use of the rebound technique.

And in the life of every believer, human ability must be superseded by divine ability.

However, the actual use of divine power from the indwelling of the Spirit depends on the filling of the Holy Spirit rather than the indwelling of the Spirit.

While the indwelling of Holy Spirit emphasizes the body, the filling of the Holy Spirit emphasizes the believer’s soul.

Therefore, the sphere of indwelling is always stated as the body of the believer, 1CO 3:16; 6:19-20.

Personal judgment decisions, like how much you eat, drink or smoke, has nothing to do with the filling of the Holy Spirit.

The indwelling of the old sin nature from physical birth and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit from the new birth result in a great inner conflict, GAL 5:17.

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the principle of victory over the old sin nature, while the filling of the Holy Spirit is the function of victory over the old sin nature.

The primary objective of the indwelling of Holy Spirit is the provision of divine energy to execute the Christian way of life.

Anointing or unction is a synonym for the indwelling of Holy Spirit, 1JO 2:20, 27.
Contradictions cannot exist in the PPOG for the Church.

a. The filling of the Holy Spirit.
b. Learning the mystery doctrine of the Church Age.

We learn that from the phrase, “the same veil remains unlifted” which is the aor-pass-ind of the verb poroo which means to harden or to become callous.
