The Christian STAND

Talent is Overrated
-Geoff Calvin

Florida Conference 2009. Part 1. Sit, Walk, and STAND.

Florida Conference 2009. Part 1.

God measures everything, from start to finish, by the perfections of His Son.

You should realize too that as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ you now share completely in those same perfections.

Chapters 1-3 are the doctrinal half. It deals with our so-great salvation and the doctrines of election and redemption, our position in Christ, and so much more.

Chapters 4-6 are the more practical half of the epistle. This section presents the normal Christian response to learning and understanding all we are in Christ. It deals with Christian conduct in light of our so-great salvation.

All in all there are three sections to the book of Ephesians, handling the believer’s position in Christ, EPH 1:1-3:21, his life in the world, EPH 4:1-6:9, and his attitude toward the enemy, EPH 6:10-24.

The first half of the letter reveals our life in Christ to be one of union with Him in the highest heavens.
The second half shows us in very practical terms how such a heavenly life is to be lived by us down here on earth. It does so in two sections.

The first section of the letter, EPH 1:1-3:21, can be represented by the word “sit,” EPH 2:6.

Christianity begins not with a big DO but with a big DONE!

Satan accuses us of not resting in our position in Christ, of not believing the promises, of not enjoying all that God, that great Giver who owns everything, has already given us!!!

Our Lord finished the work on the cross. God has done everything in Christ.

The second part of the letter, EPH 4:1-6:9, can be represented by the word “walk,” EPH 4:1.
The third part of the letter, EPH 6:10-24, can be represented by the word “stand,” EPH 6:11.

Our Position in Christ – “SIT” (EPH 2:6)..
Our Life in the World – “WALK” (EPH 4:1).
Our Attitude to the Enemy – “STAND” (EPH 6:11).

Sit, Walk, and Stand.

There is the Cross of Sit.
There is the Cross of Walk.
There is the Cross of Stand.

There is the Cross of Sit.
John 19:30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.

With respect to our sitting in the Christian way of life, the cross appears as the finished work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the cross.

There is the Cross of Walk.
Luke 9:23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”

He asks us to take up our cross daily, so that is something we ARE to do.

The Cross of our Christian walk is living in the Royal Family Honor Code, where we lay down our lives for the brethren.

ROM 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

There is the Cross of Stand.

The Christian STAND

Talent is Overrated
-Geoff Calvin

Trying to understand his early interest in the game of golf, Tiger Woods did not invoke an inborn fascination. “Golf for me was an…attempt to emulate the person I looked up to more than anyone, my father.”

“Being a Pastor, for me, is an attempt to emulate the person I look up to more than anyone, my spiritual father, Pastor Robert McLaughlin”

SIT-WALK-STAND

REV 3:12
‘He who overcomes, I (the Lord Jesus Christ) will make him a pillar in the temple of My God’

The Christian Way of Life advances by STANDing

EPH 6:11
(Pick up and) Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to STAND firm against the schemes (strategies) of the devil.
1PE 5:8
Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

STAND
The demonstration of a mental attitude, reflected by firmness and by resolve in adherence to a set of principles…to remain upright and to be RESISTant in the face of pressure

JAM 4:7
Submit therefore to God. RESIST the devil and he will flee from you.
1PE 5:9
But RESIST him, firm in your faith (bible doctrine), knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren (other believers in Christ) who are in the world (the cosmic system of Satan).

EPH 6:13
Therefore, take up (pick up and put on) the full armor of God, so that you will be able to RESIST in the evil day, and having done everything (you are), to STAND firm.

To take a STAND

To STAND up for yourself

To STAND for something

To STAND and deliver

To STAND up for what you believe in

If you STAND for nothing you’ll fall for anything

It is for doctrine that we STAND
ISA 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God (bible doctrine) stands forever.

Take a STAND in relationships
God’s pattern in His relationship with Satan communicates clearly that there is a time to say “enough is enough” in relationships

Take a STAND against REJECTION

Rejection of God
PSA 53:1 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God”

Rejection of the Gospel Message
A person who says that he can work to earn his own salvation is really saying that his work from a state of spiritual death is MORE efficacious that the work of the Lord Jesus Christ at the Cross.

2CO 4:3 And even if our gospel is veiled (and it is), it is veiled to those who are perishing…
2CO 4:4 …in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Rejection of Bible Doctrine

2TH 2:10
…and (they are deceived) with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.

Systematic Theology…has fallen upon evil days.
Between the rejection…of it by…so-called progressives and the neglect and abridgment of it by the orthodox…it is approaching the point of extinction as a potent influence

Rejection from others

The N-Word
A person of ANY race or origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant

po-folk = poor folks

GAL 3:28
(With God) There is neither Jew nor Greek (no racial distinction), there is neither slave nor free man (no social distinction), there is neither male nor female (no gender distinction); for you are all one in (union with) Christ Jesus.

Rejection of self

Take a STAND against REJECTION

REJECTION
To be forsaken, to be excluded, to be repudiated or to be eliminated… to be denied, to be discarded, to be set aside

REJECTION
The use of negative volition…to refuse to acknowledge, or to believe, or to receive, or to accept, or to hear, or to consider

REJECTION
To throw away as worthless or unsatisfactory

What are your experiences of rejection?

Who rejects you? Why?

What is your reaction to rejection?
