There is a boy in this story who became a young man and his name was Mephibosheth. Mephibosheth; his name means “a destroyer of shame”
“a Shame breaker.”

Mephibosheth = He represents the unbeliever who is sought by GOD, the lost. The one who then is found and believes on GOD on the Sons offer of Salvation and becomes a believer and is now welcomed at the table of grace…the table of the LORD.

The thesis or one main driving point of our LORD’s ministry was about seeking that which was lost. Remember? The lost coin, the lost sheep. The lost son…the prodigal.

Remember that David was: A Shepherd, a Friend, A warrior, A King but he was also an adulterer, murderer, and was a man after GOD’s own heart.

1SA 20:14-16, But as long as I live, promise me that you will show me kindness because of the Lord. And even when I die, never stop being kind to my family. The Lord will wipe each of David’s enemies off the face of the earth (that will happen certainly when the LORD returns). At that time, if Jonathan’s name  is cut off from David’s family, then may the Lord punish David’s house.”
And David made the Promise to be kind to the house of Jonathan.

2SA 4:4, Now Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son crippled in his feet. He was five years old when the report of Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel, and his nurse took him up and fled. And it happened that in her hurry to flee, he fell and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

Exactly what the injury was to the boy Mephibosheth was, we don’t know but we do know that the result was that he became lame in both feet.

He was once the Grandson of the King in line to the throne, he had the best of everything, and now was living in hiding from what everyone told him was a vengeful King David who would kill him.

Ziba had been a servant of Saul, what was his game?… Many think that he was anxious for David to find him and to kill him. Then the land of Saul might go to him.

The Hebrew word Debar means a lush pasture for grazing, The Hebrew word Lo means NO, so Lo Debar means not a place of pasture, not a place of grazing fields, a deserted land, a forsaken place of no growth.

In this case is it not only describing a physical condition or place but really more in the sense of a spiritual place or condition.

Imagine how he feels, scared, having heard all of his life since he was five that David would kill him. So, he’s thinking well I have been found I have been hiding.

Wow! From living in Lo Debar to eating at the Kings table.

This is a picture of the kindness of Jesus Christ towards man who is lost in hiding in Lo Debar.

The condition of Mephibosheth illustrates the state of a sinner when GOD finds him. LAME living in LO Debar whether they know it or not.

I have sinned, you have sinned; we have all have sinned. But we as believers know the price HE has paid for that sin.

1JO 1:7, “The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us all from all sin

Is there not yet any of the fallen sons and daughters’ descendants of Adam to whom I may show the kindness of GOD?

For the poor, the fallen sinner, wherever they are trying to hide from GOD, there is nothing, in this world of misery and sin, that can make them happy.

Have you pursued things in Satan’s Kingdom, or put your trust in worldly promises? If you have you also have had your heart broken with bitter disappointment. If not yet it will happen.

Man shows kindness to those who he likes or can get something from or as he thinks, deserves it. Not so with GOD.

I hope you see that it was Grace and Kindness that went to snatch him from Lo-debar.
Is that not what GOD sent the Son for
to fetch sinners who are in Lo Debar?

If not for this fetching-grace, we would all perish, in our effort to hide away in Lo Debar from GOD.

Fear Not!
Fear not for I will surely show Grace and Kindness.

That’s the way Grace, true Grace works. The kindness of the LORD! I will surely show you kindness“, and I will show you that kindness not for anything you did or can do but for the sake of another. The LORD Jesus Christ.

Our LORDs love for us is already there how could anything other than believing in HIM be required?
We can do nothing to deserve it, earn it, is it from HIS kindness.

“Fear not, I will surely show you Grace and Kindness”.

And so it is with us, we are children of grace! GOD has given us eternal life. No longer are we the lame stranger in Lo Debar, NO…now we are royalty, we now have a seat at the table of our LORD.

We learn and finally believe that all things work out for good because we love GOD and HE Loves us.

JOH 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life”.

JOH 3:18, “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

How about you, well how about us, do we have the confidence in HIM to rest in Grace? HIS Grace? There is nothing better than to rest in than HIS Grace.

We are to be like David and let our kindness be shown to others.
We are to recognize and appreciate GOD’s kindness towards us.
The fact that we like Mephibosheth, though not deserving of
it, are invited to eat at the LORD’s table always.

“Come to ME, I will surely show you Grace and Kindness”?
