The same principle holds true for us today: whom GOD calls, GOD equips. The equipping may not be completely evident before the ministry begins, but it will be evident as you grow in HIS Grace and Knowledge.
Now that the resurrection of sorts is occurring for us, perhaps the LORD is calling you, calling you out of your comfort and into the mission.
And you know what? I’ve seen lots of calendars in my day, military, government, Hebrew, but I have never seen the date SOMEDAY on any of them.
So, Herod wanted to see Jesus, but not as a sincere seeker. It was either because he either wanted to indulge idle curiosity or to do the same to Jesus as he had done to HISs cousin John.
The people are still hungry. Skeptics try to convince that they are not hungry. False empty religions offer them ceremony, empty words that never truly satisfy. The religious showman gives them videos, cutting edge music, emotion. Yes, the people are still hungry and Jesus has the bread of life and only HE can satisfy.
We must be where the LORD wants us to be to fully reap the blessings HE has in store for us.
50 is the number for the Jubilee. Jesus wanted this to not just be a meal, but a celebration.
1CO 15:14, If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is worthless, and so is your faith.
Also, in suggesting three tabernacles, Peter made the mistake of putting Jesus on an equal level with Moses and Elijah, with one tabernacle for each of them.
Also, Moses represented the law and Elijah the prophets. The LORD Jesus Christ was above and greater than both of those things. That’s why what Peter said was wrong, he was putting them on equal footing.
Immediately after the glory of the transfiguration, Jesus and the disciples came down from the mountain and were met by demonic trouble and opposition.
Their failure was in fact good for them. Their failure taught them. It taught them not to get into a rut of mechanical ministry.
Perhaps HE felt frustration that the disciples did not have more faith at this point.
Some of the lies that Satan uses to throw men down just as they are coming to Jesus:
You’re not elect.
You’re too big of a sinner.
It’s too late.
There’s no use in trying – give it up.
This won’t work for you. Quit.
Imagine that! This was very frustrating to the disciples, because it showed that other followers of Jesus were able to cast out demons when they sometimes were not able to do so. No wonder John wanted them to stop!
On the way to Galilee the LORD had stopped at this or a nearby village and had the encounter with the woman at the well. She had seen the truth and spread the news of the Messiah.
Lord, let me first go and bury my father: Actually, this man did not ask for permission to dig a grave for his deceased father.
And Joanna, no doubt, stepped down from her aristocratic social position when she chose to follow Jesus. What a privilege she had, she was one of the first people to share the good news of Christ’s Resurrection.
In plowing a field in that day, a farmer kept the rows straight by focusing on an object in front and in the distance (such as a tree). More than anyone else, Jesus lived this; HE steadfastly set HIS face on the prize and it was a prize, to forgive the sin of the world.
This may seem like a startling statement but Jesus indicated that HIS closest family is made up of those who hear and obey GOD’s word.
The LORD uses the same word for stop or shut up as HE does when HE silences the demons. The word means “shut up”. Notice the Disciples are beginning to realize HE controls the natural world just like HE controls the Spiritual world.
These demons did not want to become inactive. And for whatever reason, the LORD accepted their proposal.
Notice that the demons can’t even afflict pigs without the permission of GOD.
Draw from that what you will.
Here we have a daughter around 12 years old and as we will see next, a woman who was suffering for 12 years. 12 the number of authority.
This woman whose identity is not known knew the Word of GOD, she knew MAL 4:2, “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings; and you will go forth and skip about like calves from the stall.
Jesus was often mocked and ridiculed. Men ridiculed HIS origin.
Men ridiculed HIS actions.
Men ridiculed HIS claims to be Messiah. And of course at the Cross HE was mocked.
It is interesting that there is an opposite here. Jairus had twelve years of happiness with his daughter about to be shut off, or at least it seemed that way.
The woman had twelve years of agony that seemed hopeless to heal that was about to be ended.
– Jairus was an important man, the ruler of the synagogue. The woman, well we don’t even know her name.
– Jairus was probably wealthy, The woman was poor because she spent all her money on doctors.
– Jairus came publicly. The woman came secretly.
– Jairus thought Jesus had to do a lot to heal his daughter. The woman thought all she needed was to touch Jesus’ garment.
– Jesus responded to the woman immediately. Jesus responded to Jairus after a delay.
– Jairus’ daughter was healed secretly. The woman was healed publicly.
