Luke wrote the longest of the Gospels, and he also wrote more than any other NT writer. Luke was also the last Synoptic Gospel to be written.

Many theories exist about who this Theophilus was, perhaps the best explanation was that it was a general name for Christians.

Do you believe that GOD loves you no matter what you’ve done? The fact that the eternal Son of GOD lowered Himself to become human, make Himself subject to human limitations, and seek out HIS people shows us clearly how much GOD cares for us and, in turn, how we are to care for others.

Therefore, Luke is regarded as the most comprehensive Gospel. He documents the story of Jesus from the encounter in the Jordan River with John the Baptist to the ascension.

Only priests from a particular line of Levites could serve in the temple. They used a lottery system to determine which priests would serve when.

What did Zacharias pray for? He prayed for both needs of the nation of Israel, which was occupied and oppressed by the hated Romans. And he prayed for GOD to send the Messiah.

The angel who appeared to Zacharias was a glorious, and awesome creature. Like many angels in the Bible, the first thing this angel has to say to his human contact is “Do not be afraid.”

Sometimes we pray for something for a long time. We pray for the salvation of a spouse or a child. We pray for a calling or a special person. But after years of heartfelt prayer, we give up out of discouragement.

NUM 6:24-26, The Lord bless you, and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you, and give you peace.

Gabriel said three things to Mary. Each was true. She was highly favored. That the LORD was with her.
She was blessed. Those things were true. However, all these things are also true of every believer in Jesus Christ.

I love Mary’s question, how can this be, since I do not know a man? She had not had sex. So, Mary’s question was logical.
Gabriel answered that the power of the Highest, in the Person of the Holy Spirit, would overshadow Mary.

This false worship, having spread from Babylon to the various nations, finally became established at Rome and throughout the Roman Empire. The worship of the Great Mother was very popular under the Roman Empire.

An important verse, Mary never considered herself special, she knew she needed a savior like everyone else. As did Elizabeth.

Just as Gabriel said would happen, Zacharias could speak again. He spoke, praising GOD. It was fitting that Zacharias’ first words were praise to GOD.

They would have called him by the name of his father, Zacharias: Both Zacharias and Elizabeth knew the name of the child had to be John, according to the command from the Angel.

The amazing thing about Simeon’s prophecy is that it shows that this light is for the Gentiles also. The salvation of Jesus began with Israel but was always to be extended beyond Israel.

MIC 4:8, As for you, watchtower of the flock (Migdal Eder), stronghold of Daughter Zion, the former dominion will be restored to you; kingship (Messiah) will come to Daughter Jerusalem.”

Anna was a remarkable woman. As a widow she knew pain and loss but had not become bitter. As an elderly woman she had not lost hope. Perhaps it was because she was a woman of worship and a woman of prayer.
That’s why the HS wanted us to know her details.
