The clarification is that Christ’s message on the last day of the last feast is a prophecy concerning the ministry of God the HS in the Church-age.
However, though ceaselessly active in all the centuries before the cross, it was not until after that great event that He became an abiding Presence in the hearts of men.
So far as the record goes, no person in that whole period had any choice, or expected to have an choice, in the sovereign movements of the Spirit. Yet in the CA, His indwelling of every believer is guaranteed and His filling is always your choice.
Luke 11:13
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”
What happened to Peter? The power of the HS flowed through him, defeating all doubt, fear, and shame and imparting power and boldness in a supernatural way.
But this would have never happened for Peter or any other NT believer if Christ had not asked for them since they themselves failed to ask.
Two things –
1) grace beyond what we could think,
2) intercessory prayer from Christ, the HS, and other members of the RF.
Don’t pray to God with human frivolities. Ask Him for the highest and best provisions, but learn what those provisions are.
HEB 7:25
Hence, also, He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
“the Prophet,” is specifically the person mentioned in DEU 18:15.
Deut 18:15
The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him.
Deut 18:18
‘I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
Deut 18:19 ‘And it shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.
There are two people who are categorised as the prophet. In the Old Testament “the prophet” is Moses; in the New Testament “the Prophet” is Jesus Christ.
This must be classified as positive volition toward Him through identification of an Old Testament passage, and this is the way some responded to the Lord – their knowledge of the Old Testament.
Word of God is a direct testimony to the Son of God.
There were others who came to an understanding of the person of Christ in an independent way, apart from the OT scripture and directly from the message of the Lord Jesus Christ.

There were thousands of people in that crowd who had gone on positive volition and now they were ready for gospel hearing.
Since Christ died for everyone, therefore everyone can drink in the Gospel and be saved.
And drinking is used as the analogy to faith in the Gospel because drinking is non-meritorious.
We have here a recognition of the inspiration of the NT canon.
The apostle clarifies for us what exactly Christ means, and that is the indwelling Holy Spirit which sets up headquarters in the believers body so that He may control the soul.
The indwelling Holy Spirit is to produce the character of Christ in the believer with PVTD – love, joy, peace, etc.
GAL 5:16
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
GAL 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
John 15:8
“By this is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.
The positive believer inculcates his soul with BD daily and is sensitive to the F/HS daily, and therefore this amazing power that has been poured into us is transformed by the Spirit into a river of application to life and circumstances.
