Hosea can you see the doctrine of idolatry.

a. Israel’s Idolatrous Past,
b. Prophesied Present, and Future Restoration.

We have a symbolic representation; In verses 4-5, we have the explanation.

In Chapter 9: There is the past dealings of God with Israel; In Chapter 10: His present dealings with Israel; and, in Chapter 11: His future dealings with Israel.

Those that build their doctrine on the “replacement” of Israel with the church have profound problems with the New Testament as well as the Old.

(ash-ee-shaw’); a cake of raisins or made with real wine or literally flagons or vessels of wine.

This is a different command from that mentioned in the first chapter.
That denoted the infidelity of the kingdom of Israel, and God’s divorce of them. A divorce by God is giving them up to their enemies, and caused them to be carried into captivity.

The woman mentioned here represents one who was a lawful wife joining herself to a husband and lover; then divorced by her husband; If anything can change her, and cause her to be desirous to be joined back to her husband, it is “true love causing her to cease from her adulterous business, even though she is not yet reconciled to him.

Though separated from their own idols, the Jews continued also separated from their God.

once they leave their vomit, they’re too ashamed to go back to God.

God was still having affectionate feelings toward them; awaiting their full repentance and regret, in order to renew the marriage covenant.

This woman, who had proved false to her husband, was still beloved by him, though he could not acknowledge her a so.

1. The worship of a physical object or objects as god.
2. Inordinate attachment or extreme devotion to something.

They are related to the fact that Israel was appointed as a client nation to god, EXO 19:4-6.

The first commandment prohibits mental idolatry, and the second commandment prohibits overt idolatry, EXO 20:1-6; DEU 5:6-10.

DEU 5:8-9, ‘You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me,

Idolatry is also analogous to spiritual adultery.
Idolatry is an attack on category one love or love for God, JER 3:8-10; EZE 16:23-43; EZE 23:24-30; REV 17:1-5.

Idolatry begins in the mind and proceeds to overt practice, JUD 2:10-13; EZE 14:7.

1. Baal-berith = covenant baal, or the Lord and the guardian of the covenants.
Baal berith was worshipped in JDG 8:33; JDG 9:46.
2. Baal-gad = the lord of good luck, or the baal of fortune, worshipped in ISA 65:11.
3. Baal-hamon = possessor of abundance.

Solomon even named a garden after this god in SOS 8:11.

4. Baal hermon = this was the mountain god and the place that was the center of all baal worship. (Worshipped in JDG 3:3, 1CH 5:23, DEU 3:9.)
5. Baal peor = this was the god of prostitution and sex, worshipped in NUM 25:1-3.
6. Baal zebub = the fly god, or the god of counterfeit. (Worshipped in 2KI 1:2.3.6.16.)

The scripture teaches that idolatry begins in the mind and proceeds to overt practice.

Well that is part of shiggaon, a breakdown in the mentality of the soul, the Jews had no spiritual strength and no doctrine resident in their soul, and so they Immediately had to accept a substitute.

You will be shocked at the things which believers do once they reject Bible doctrine.

The scripture teaches that idolatry begins in the mind and proceeds to overt practice.

EZE 14:7 “For anyone of the house of Israel or of the immigrants who stay in Israel who separates himself from Me, sets up his idols in his heart,

1. The worship of a physical object or objects as god.
2. Inordinate attachment or extreme devotion to something.

That is the food which we have noted, angels food or the manna from heaven.

The bronze serpent was the means which God used to reveal His son to the congregation of Israel. It was the means to bring them to an expected end,…. which was a personal relationship with Jehovah Elohim, the Lord God.

JOH 3:14 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the son of man be lifted up.”
JOH 12:32 “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.”
HEB 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

They began to worship the means that God used to reveal Himself rather than God Himself.

2KI 18:4 He [Hezekiah] also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the sons of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Neshushtan [a piece of brass].

And the Lord has a way of smashing all these things so that the things which cannot be shaken, are the only things which remain.

Idolatry then is manifest in negative volition to doctrine and is one of the signs of apostasy,
ROM 1:18-25.
