The importance of hearing, listening and concentration, and what it accomplishes.

Wednesday, August 27, 2003

Heard – aor-act-ind – akouo = to listen, to hear, to concentrate, to hear in an audience; the one who is listening or hearing is teachable.

John demonstrated the fact that with the greatest of humility, which he possessed, he was able to carry the principle of virtue to the maximum, and he exploited every avenue of motivational and functional virtue.

He demonstrated how it was not a personal love at all, but an impersonal love based on virtue.

Aorist tense – akouo – regards the action of the verb as being completed; in order to learn, you have to have a time to listen, and you can not talk and learn at the same time.

MAR 12:30 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.”

If Bible doctrine or the words of Christ are not abiding in you, you do not have love for God, JOH 5:38-42.

If a believer really loves God, it will be manifested by his desire to hear God’s words, JOH 8:47.

“Hears” – pres-act-ind – akouei – a*kouvei = to hear in an audience, to listen, concentrate, understand, learn, to give a hearing.

“Keep” – aor-act-imp – tereo = to guard something that belongs to you; to watch over carefully, keep, hold, preserve and pay attention to; to retain.

AMO 8:11-12 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “When I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, But rather for hearing the words of the Lord.”

AMO 8:12 “And people will stagger from sea to sea, And from the north even to the east; They will go to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, But they will not find it.”

Keeps – aor-act-imp – tereo = to guard something that belongs to you.
Constantive aorist tense = you guard or keep His word by making continual decisions to hear doctrine and not to quit.

If you guard or keep God’s Word in you, God’s love will be in you, JOH 15:10.

If you personally love God then you will also love doctrine more than money, PSA 119:72,127; PSA 62:10.

PSA 62:10 Do not trust in oppression, And do not vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.

PSA 119:72 The doctrine from Thy mouth is better to me Than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

PSA 119:127 Therefore I love Thy commands above gold, yes, above fine gold.

Satan is not trying to tempt people with sin but rather with evil,
PSA 119:113.

PSA 119:113 I hate those who are double-minded, But I love Thy doctrine.

Double-minded – ceeph = divided, double-minded, skeptic thoughts.

Having God’s mind or Bible doctrine is that which produces God’s love in the local assembly, PHI 2:2.

PHI 2:2 make my happiness complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

1PE 1:8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory.

Keeping with doctrine is the only way to love with God’s love, 1JO 2:5.

“Perfected” – perf-pass-ind – teleo = to complete or to reach a place of maturity; to come to the place where it can be released.

Loving God is also revealed with impersonal love toward one another, 1JO 4:7.

“Knows God” – pres-act-imp – ginosko – the present tense means the more we love reveals the more we are progressively getting to know Him.

Loving God requires occupation with Christ, walking in doctrine and serving with all our heart and soul, DEU 10:12.

DEU 10:12 “And now, what does the Lord your God require from you, but to respect the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Since God is invisible and the object of our love, we must see and love Him through doctrine in the soul.

You cannot love God unless you know God, and you cannot know God unless you have metabolized enough pertinent doctrine, 1PE 1:8, EPH 3:18-19, HEB 6:10, 2TI 1:13-14, COL 3:1-2.

Love for God is also the basis for supergrace blessing, 1CO 2:9,
PSA 37:4-5.

1CO 2:9 but just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.”

PSA 37:4-5 Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

There is a special curse on believers who fail to have love for God.
1CO 16:22 – they are “cursed until the Lord comes.”

Even witnessing must be motivated by love for God.
2CO 5:14 “The love of Christ controls us.”
