The phrase “in me” is made up of the Greek preposition “en” plus the dative of advantage of the personal pronoun emoi which is correctly translated “in me” meaning we are “in Him.”
This is also known as a dative of advantage = which means it is to the advantage of the believer to be in Christ as well as it is to the advantage of the believer to know what the advantage truly is.
This grammatical prepositional phrase can refer to our union with Him and it can be used to identify our oneness with Him, or our positional truth, something that the disciples did not understand at the time.
The importance of positional truth can never be overstated and must be dogmatically accepted if it is going to have a positive impact upon believers.
These doctrinal students of the Word of God understand the positive impact that Positional Truth can have upon a believer who truly believes in it.
Positional Truth refers to How God sees us because of the efficacious work of His Son Jesus Christ upon the cross.
Efficacious means that our Lord’s spiritual death was totally successful in producing a desired or intended result.
Answ: It is the fact that God the Father was completely and totally satisfied with the work of His Son Jesus Christ on the cross and because we are in union with Christ, “God the Father is also completely satisfied with us.
Prin: When the believer truly understands Positional Truth and metabolizes the doctrine with the result that the application of Positional Truth is what really changes the believer.
JOH 1:3 All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
The doctrine of positional truth is based upon the believer being indwelt by our Lord Jesus Christ as He is seated at the right hand of God the Father.
Most theologians believe that Theophilus was Dr. Luke and he was the personal doctor who traveled with the apostle Paul in the book of Acts.
Every believer receives at least 40 gracious things of which seven of these are directly accomplished by God the Holy Spirit, one of which is the baptism of the Spirit whereby He takes us an enters us into union with Jesus Christ.
God the Holy Spirit is said to “graciously” give to us and “graciously” provide for us as a part of the seven different ministries of God the Holy Spirit which are given at the moment of your salvation.
Be careful of HOW you control your feelings and emotions when you’re making an important decision.
The reason why is that your emotions of the soul have been created by our Lord Jesus Christ to respond to God the Father and to be thankful for His plan.
When your emotions are in charge, there is always the danger of making decisions based upon “how” one feels rather than “what one knows.”
Be careful of the emotions of the soul making decisions because the old sin nature will seek for dominance of the flesh rather than fellowship with the Spirit.
There’s nothing wrong with the emotions as long as they are used in the way our Lord created them to be used and that is for either the “legitimate emotion of sorrow or hurt” or the “legitimate emotion of laughter and rejoicing.”
These seven things were done for the believer by the Holy Spirit at salvation and it forms the basis for unity among believers who find themselves in union with Christ.
- We have as a description called Efficacious grace – which enables the believer to have an effective faith in Christ; HEB 9:14.
In HEB 9:14, we are told that our Lord relied on the ministry of God the Holy Spirit when He offered up Himself without blemish to God.
God the Holy Spirit works with the humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, there is the tremendous blessing also of having our hearts cleansed from guilt and condemnation.
Joh 8:32 “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
TIT 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.
One of the most important passages on the Baptism of the Spirit is the passage in Eph 4:5 which says that there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism.
One baptism is without a doubt, not water.
It is not a second blessing;
It is not liquid waves of love running down our spine.
REV 2:4 “But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.”
- Indwelling of the Spirit; 1Co 3:16, 6:19-20; 2Co 6:16.
- Filling of the Holy Spirit; Eph 5:18; Gal 5:16.
- Sealing of the Holy Spirit; Eph 1:13-14, 4:30.
- The Sovereign Distribution of Spiritual Gifts to each Believer by the believer; 1Co 12:4-31.
The implications of positional truth have to do with the fact that we share what Christ has. Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father; we share everything that Christ has and is.
- Christ is eternal life — 1Jo 5:11-12.
b. Christ is absolute righteousness — 2Co 5:21.
c. Christ is elected, we share His election — Eph 1:4.
- Christ has a destiny; we share His destiny– Eph 1:5.
e. Christ is the Son, we share His sonship — 2Ti 2:1.
f. Christ is the heir, we share His heirship — Rom 8:16-17.
- Christ is sanctified; we share His sanctification —1Co 1:2.
h. Christ is a King, we share His kingdom — 2Pe 1:11.
i. Christ is a high priest, we share His priesthood — Heb 10:10-14.
- It is not an experience; it is neither emotional nor ecstatics.
- It is not progressive; it cannot be improved in time or eternity.
- It is not related to human merit or human good. Grace escalates divine good and excludes human good.
- Positional truth is eternal in nature, it will last forever.
- Positional truth is known only by the Word of God.
- Positional truth is obtained en toto at the moment of salvation.
- It is accomplished by means of the baptism of the Spirit, one of the 40 things we receive at the point of salvation.
