Are you living in your spiritual circumcision?.

Sunday, May 12, 2002

The pagan Athenians were always eager to hear something new and thrilling, ACT 17:19.

1TI 4:6 In reminding these things to the brethren, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following.

2TI 2:14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless, and leads to the ruin of the hearers.

Circumcision is a declaration throughout every generation of history, that God is going to bless some Jew in every generation, or some group of Jews, because Abraham, the Father of the new race went all of the way to ultra-supergrace.

Circumcision was not all that Abraham was required to do; it was the symbol of his relationship to God and signified his spiritual growth.

Symbolically, the flesh is cut off or put away.

ROM 8:8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

ROM 8:12-13 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh For if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

It was not the circumcision that saved the boy, but the sign which would forever remind him of what God required to enjoy the benefits of His covenant - spiritual growth.

It is a ritual, it is a memorial sign, but ritual without reality is meaningless.

Momentous occasions are accompanied by permanent training aids to bring to remembrance the new doctrinal principles.

In the founding of the new race, the Jew, a permanent training aid was set up, the ritual of circumcision.

In the founding of the new nation, Israel, a permanent training aid was set, the Levitical offerings, the tabernacle and the holy days.

In the bringing forth of the new spiritual species, the Church, a permanent training aid was set up, the Lords supper instituted as a momentous occasion of the body of Christ.

1CO 10:16 Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ?

eight - shemoneh “to make fat,” “to super-abound.”

The number seven means completion or rest; the seventh day was the day of completion and rest for God.

The number eight was over and above this perfect completion; it represents that which is over and above seven, and the first of a new series of events.

The number eight refers to resurrection - Sunday is called the Lords day in the New Testament.

GEN 17:12 “And every male among you who is eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, a servant who is born in the house or who is bought with money from any foreigner, who is not of your descendants.”

Before the eighth day, there is danger of hemorrhage and after the eighth day there is danger of infection.

Eight is a Bible number for completion, for success, the number for resurrection and glory.

1PE 3:20 - when God destroyed the world through the flood, eight persons were brought safely through the water.

“They get bored with childhood. They rush to grow up and then long to be children again.”

“They lose their health to make money and then lose their money to restore their health.”

“By thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such that they live in neither the present nor the future.”

“They live as if they will never die, and die as if they had never lived.”

ZEC 2:8 For he who touches you, touches the apple of My eye.

MAL 3:17 “And they will be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts, “on the day that I prepare {My} own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.”

2CO 5:16 Therefore from now on we recognize no man according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.

Eight is the number for completion, for success, for resurrection and glory.

“To learn they cannot make anyone love them. All they can do is let themselves be loved.”

“To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others.”

“To learn that a rich person is not one who has the most, but is one who needs the least.”

“To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in people we love, and it takes many years to heal them.”

“To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness.”

“To learn that there are people who love them dearly, but simply do not know how to express or show their feelings.”

“To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see it differently.”

“To learn that it is not always enough to forgive one another, but that they must also forgive themselves.”

Most of all, to learn that just like the physical circumcision was a reminder to the Jew that they were special in my eyes, their spiritual circumcision is a guarantee that they too are special in My eyes and I am here for them “Always.”

2CO 11:3 But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.

REV 2:4 But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
