Point 4. The Warnings of the Lord to the Lukewarm Believer Concerning Shame.
Seven churches – all had different trends or tendencies – also were prophetical of the different historical periods that the Church would go through.
Ephesus Apostolic Period – Pentecost AD 100. The Faith Defined.

Smyrna Roman Persecution; from AD 100-313. A period of time when the faith needed to be defended.

Wax candles; AD 320. Veneration of angels and dead saints and use of images;AD 375.
The Mass as a daily celebration; AD 394.
Beginning of the exaltation of Mary, the “Mother of God” First applied to her by the Council of Ephesus; AD 431.
Priests began to dress differently from laymen; AD 500.
Thyatira Roman Catholic Period – AD 590-1517. The Faith Defiled.
Sardis Reformation. Protestant Period – AD 1517-1795. The Faith Discovered.
Philadelphia Missionary and New Testament Assemblies Period – AD 1795-1870. The Faith Discerned.
Laodicea Modernist and Ecumenical Period – AD 1870 – Rapture. The Faith Denied.
Solution for the cold unbeliever; ACT 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved.”
Solution for the hot believer – use the problem solving devices made available through his relationship with God.
PRO 23:23 “Buy truth, and do not sell it, Get wisdom and instruction and understanding.”
MAT 13:44 “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.”
