Losing your life. Part 5.

PSA 37:4 Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.

The word delight - anag means here to make love. It is a word for amorous behaviour or to take exquisite delight in a member of the opposite sex.

The word is used here for occupation with the person of Christ. Make love to the Lord. In this way we are occupied with Him and this is the very antithesis of loving self or others above Him.

We can love God by knowing Him through His word.

Jesus Christ became the unique One - the God/Man - and became your Mediator through victory at the cross when you believed in Him.

1 Ti 2:5-6
For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony borne at the proper time.

Losing your soul that you may find it refers to changing what your soul values, from the values of the OSN and the world to the values of Christ.

PHI 3:8
More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ,

MAT 10:34 - 39 emphasizes relationship with God over relationship with people, Matt 16:21 - 26 emphasizes the fact that no one, not even Christ, can bypass the cross.

“From that time,” = from the time of the prophecy of the Church in vs. 18. The Church Age is going to be radically different from anything that ever occurred before.
The Church Age was going to be radically different as far as the plan of the believer is concerned, and in reality there is no such thing as an ordinary believer in the Church Age. Every believer is in full-time Christian service; every believer has a personal sense of destiny.

“he must” — literally, it is necessary. Jesus began to teach that the divine plan begins with the cross; the cross must come before the crown.

The reason that Jesus is emphasising this is because only the death of Christ on the cross can accomplish the transformation of the believer who through a system can have an intimate relationship with God.

JOH 12:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

The Cross has to come first and then Jesus Christ will transfer this very poor building material, these disciples, into the stones of the Church.

“and be raised again” — aorist passive infinitive. The passive voice says that he didn’t raise Himself in His humanity, He was raised by the Father and He was raised by the Spirit and even His own deity had a hand in resurrection, the Trinity were involved.

ROM 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

We are going to receive a resurrection body too, we are not going to earn it or design it or make it ourselves, we are going to receive it at the Rapture, passive voice.

The word “took” means to admit one to one’s society, in other words Peter spoke to Christ as an equal. We are in union with Christ but we are not His equal.

What a statement! Peter takes the Lord aside, speaks to Him as an equal and says, “God” forbid it - You shall not go to the Cross.

Until you become stabilised through Bible doctrine you can’t make a victory last for very long. The obvious reason for Peter’s failure is ignorance of doctrine.

Why did Jesus call Peter “Satan”?
The absence of doctrine in the frontal lobe plus ignorance of God’s plan causes the believer to represent the Satanic viewpoint - human good.

The issue is good versus good — human good versus divine good. Human good is authored by Satan and human good is the basis by which he seeks to fulfil his personal ambition of creating a perfect environment for man forever.

Peter is not Satan but Peter represents the Satanic viewpoint when he asks Jesus to by-pass the cross. Any believer who is ignorant of doctrine is a stumbling block to God’s plan.

PHI 3:18-19 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.

“Follow me” — emphasises operation divine good. It is a present active imperative. Keep on performing divine good is the idea, keep on following me, get into my plan.

“life” - psuche = soul. The soul is the real you. If your soul values the things of Christ then you will follow Him under proper motivation.
