Luke CH 24. A detailed look at the Gospel of Luke. Pastor Rick Kabrick

Yet it was precisely because HE did not save Himself that HE could save others.
It was not the nails that kept HIM on the Cross, but it was LOVE.

LUK 23:34, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
LUK 23:43, “Today shalt thou be with Me in paradise.”
JOH 19:26, “Woman, behold thy Son.”
MAR 15:34, “My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?”
JOH 19:28, “I thirst.”
JOH 19:30, “It is finished.”
LUK 23:46, “Father, into Thy hands I commend My spirit.”

He drank the cup of the Fathers wrath meant for us so that we could drink from the cup of redemption.

It was the declaration on the part of the Divine Redeemer that all that He came from heaven to earth to do, was now done.

Those surely were beautiful words, perhaps the most beautiful words spoken to man by an angel.

Every so often someone claims to have found evidence of the tomb of Jesus or the bones of Jesus. Each claim is found to be untrue, while the testimony of the angels is proved true over and over again: He is not there.

11 But these words appeared to them as nonsense (lay ross idle words of a crazy person, a person uncontrollable due to sorrow…hard to believe huh?), and they would not believe them.

You have to love Mary she has no qualms about dealing with these angels, she was like I don’t care what happens to me, I want to find the body of the LORD.

JOH 10:27-28, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

These Disciples were thinking HE was the redeemer but that HE would redeem the people from their Roman rule.
We see this was a common thing.

JOH 19:26 says that Mary the wife of Cleopas was at the foot of the Cross, one of the 3 Mary’s who were there. SO, they knew what the LORD had taught, heard HIM, traveled with HIM it would appear.

So, with all of that these Disciples still simply left town. Amazing isn’t it…eyewitness accounts silly women, no body so its all over. And we blame Thomas…these are the same.

So here were these disciples, some say it was Cleopas and his wife Mary, others early church fathers say it was 2 men and their wives we are not exactly sure.

Well, these disciples needed to know that this was all a part of the plan not the end of the plan.

They knew the Messiah would one day reign over the earth but they didn’t know the Messiah would come first as the suffering servant.

They were common, simple men. They had lost hope.
They had lost joy, a spiritual desertion.
They had not lost desire, they still loved to talk about Jesus.
They had not yet seen the necessity of the Cross.

None of the Apostles or the disciples actually truly believed HE would rise from the dead. I know a bold statement and perhaps there were a some. But look they hide out of fear after the Cross, John tells us that.

JOH 20:19, On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”

32 They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”

It certainly was a great conversation; we can be sure of that. These were real people who were taught for 2-3-4 hours straight by the LORD Jesus Christ.

This was not fear of what HE looked like, it was because all of the sudden HE was there when am moment before HE wasn’t there. A natural reaction.

13-14, When he knocked at the door of the gate, a servant-girl named Rhoda came to answer.
When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of her joy she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter was standing in front of the gate.

15 “You are out of your mind!”

This was where the scars were, remember in Heaven we will have perfect resurrection bodies but there will be one which will have the scars HIS. Ours will not have the scars of this world any longer, HE HIS resurrection body will.

Spirits don’t eat…Spirits don’t have flesh, HE had to or at least wanted to prove to them it was HIM resurrected.

16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised;
and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.

ACT 1:10-12 for the promise of HIS return: And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.
