A Theophany is a manifestation of the person and work of Jesus Christ in His pre-incarnate state.

Theophanies demonstrate that Jesus Christ is the God of Israel.

DEU 6:4 – Shama Israel Adonai Elohenu Adonai Echad. Shama [hear] Israel, Adonai Elohenu [the Lord is our God] Adonai [the Lord Jesus Christ] Echad [is unique].

As the angel of God (the Lord), Jesus Christ is in the pillar of the cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night to lead Israel through the desert, EXO 13:21; EXO 14:19; EXO 23:20-23; EXO 32:34; EXO 33:2; NUM 20:16;ISA 63:9.

Jesus Christ as a theophany appeared to Moses in the burning bush, EXO 3:2, ACT 7:30-35.
He was called malach Adonai, the angel or messenger of Jehovah.

As the God of Israel, Jesus Christ as the angel of the Lord warned the judges of Israel, JDG 2:1-4.

Not only did Jesus Christ as the God of Israel appoint Moses the first leader of the Jewish nation, but He also appointed the second leader, Gideon, JDG 6:11-24.

He also appeared to Abraham as a man, GEN 18:1-33.
He was the wrestler with Jacob, GEN 32:24-32, HOS 12:4.

He appeared as a man to the elders of Israel, EXO 24:9-11.

Throughout the Bible Jesus Christ takes on visible forms, but they were not permanent until He took on the form of true humanity.
