EPH 6:10-11 From now on, start becoming strong by means of the Lord, and in the strength of His might. Pick up and put on the full armor from God, that you may be able to hold your ground against the schemes or the strategies of the devil.

EPH 6:12-13 Because our struggle is not against blood [people’s souls] and flesh [their old sin nature], but against the rulers [these are the archons like Abaddon and Beelzebub], against the powers [demon officers who have phenomenal authority], against the world forces of this darkness - [kosmokratoras - demons who specialize in possessing or influencing the cosmos or world rulers] against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places or against the spiritual forces of evil in the atmosphere around the earth, the stellar universe and in the presence of God.

EPH 6:14-15 Because of this, pick up and put on the full armor from God, that you may be able to hold your ground in the day when evil attacks you, even after you have achieved or accomplished everything, hold your ground. Because of this, hold your ground, [after you] have buckled on your combat gear around your waist by means of doctrine, and [after you] have put on the breastplate of righteousness, [hold your ground] after you have put on your combat boots on your feet with readiness, preparation, or the equipment of the gospel of peace.

EPH 6:16-18 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

EPH 6:19-20 and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

One of the most insecure experiences a child can have is for them to misbehave and not be disciplined.

The Living Bible - “If you refuse to discipline your son it proves that you don’t love him.”

PRO 15:17 Better a bread crust shared in love than a slab of prime rib served in hate.
The Living Bible - “It’s better to eat soup with someone you love than steak with someone you hate.”
It’s better to have a bowl of tomato soup with your family and be filled with love than to serve steak at every meal and be filled with strife.

PRO 22:6 Point your kids in the right direction - when they’re old they won’t be lost.
Train up - Qal imperative - chanak = to initiate or to discipline or to dedicate.
Chanak = developing thirst and training to submit; it has the connotation of discipline and dedication.

According to the Bible the word “child” may be translated from the age of infancy to adolescence.

1SA 1:22 - an infant.
Gen 21 - Ishmael before he was a teenager.
Gen 37 - Joseph when he was 17.
Gen 34 - a child of marriageable age.

Train up = to create a thirst, to discipline a child, in the way he should go.

“In keeping with”
“In cooperation with”
“In accordance with”
“According to his way.”

Solomon is not saying to train up a child according to your way or what you want him to be.
He is saying if you want your training to be meaningful and wise observe your child and discover “his way.”

“Way” - derek

PRO 30:18-19 - derek does not always mean a pathway or a road. It means a characteristic,
PRO 22:6, according to his characteristic, his manner.

PRO 30:18:19 - in each case the word “way” is not a road or a path - it is a characteristic.
PRO 22:6 Train up a child in keeping with his characteristics.

Children are not a piece of clay to be molded into what we want them to be.

Just look at the different characters in every family.

Know your child’s weakness and his strength, God does!

Cain - Abel Jacob - Esau Absalom - Solomon

PRO 22:15 Young people are prone to foolishness and fads; the cure comes through tough-minded discipline.

Bound - qashar - to be confined and compacted.

Foolishness in the O.T. always has to do with one who despises discipline and authority.

A fool was one who hated instruction, one who mocked at guilt. From their early age foolishness is confined and compacted in the hearts of our children.

PRO 23:13 Don’t be afraid to correct your young ones; a spanking won’t kill them.
PRO 23:14 A good spanking, in fact, might save them from something worse than death.
