The New Testament analogy of the Old Testament Fish Gate. Part 4.

Sunday, April 15, 2012

EPH 5:18 “Stop being intoxicated with wine by which is dissipation [a lifestyle of self-absorption to try and solve the problems of life], but keep on being filled with the Holy Spirit.”

On the other hand, there are some negative commands, such as 1TH 5:19 “Do not quench the Spirit;”

You quench the Holy Spirit when you allow the sin nature to control the soul. You quench the Holy Spirit by allowing stress in the soul producing sins of worry, fear, guilt, anxiety, etc. Or by using defensive mechanisms instead of the problem solving devices.

The recovery of the power of the Holy Spirit is the subject of EPH 4:30 “Furthermore, stop grieving the Holy Spirit of God, by Whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”

Spirituality or the filling of the Holy Spirit links salvation to spiritual maturity.

Satan’s counterfeits include a counterfeit:
a. Gospel, 2CO 4:3-4.
b. Ministers, 2CO 11:13-15.
c. Doctrine, 1TI 4:1.
d. Communion table, 1CO 10:19-21.
e. Spirituality, GAL 3:2-3.
f. Righteousness, MAT 19:16-28.
g. Power and dynamics (miracles, healing, Tongues) 2TH 2:8-10.
h. System of gods, 2TH 2:3-4.

1. Walking in the Spirit, GAL 5:16.
2. Walking in the light, 1JO 1:7.
3. Imitating Christ, EPH 5:1.
4. Epistles of Christ ministered by the Spirit, 2CO 3:3.
5. Partakers of the divine nature, 2PE 1:4.
6. Be filled with the Spirit, EPH 5:18.
7. Worshipping in the Spirit, PHI 3:3.

Iin the Church-Age, the age of the substance in contrast to the Old Testament, the age of the shadow, all believers start the Christian way of life off with the Holy Spirit controlling the soul.

At the moment of salvation every believer is filled and indwelt by the Spirit and placed inside of the PPOG for the first time.

COL 1:13, For He [God the Father] delivered us from the domain of darkness [Satan’s cosmic system], and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son [PPOG],

GAL 5:16-17, But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh [OSN] sets its desire against the Spirit [the indwelling of the Holy Spirit], and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

This is why we are never commanded to be indwelt by the Spirit but only to be filled with the Spirit or as this passage says “walk in the Spirit”.

The Bible teaches that we are sealed by the Spirit until the day we are redeemed,
EPH 4:30.

JOH 14:16 “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another helper [Holy Spirit], that he may be with you Forever”;

1CO 6:18-19, Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

A “temple” is a sacred dwelling for the honor and glory of God, where He is to be revered and worshipped, and from which all idols must be excluded. When we rebound, the Holy Spirit again controls the soul. Carnality is simply loss of the filling of the Holy Spirit.

The filling of the Holy Spirit is recovery through rebound adjustment to the justice of God, PRO 1:23; 1JO 1:9.

PRO 1:23 “Turn at My reproof [rebound], behold, I will pour out my Spirit on you; I will make My words known to you.”
JER 3:13 ‘Only acknowledge your iniquity, That you have transgressed against the Lord your God.
HOS 14:2 Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to Him, “Take away all iniquity, And receive {us} graciously, That we may present the fruit of our lips.

You may learn some principles of truth while you are out of fellowship but it will simply be gnosis and not epignosis or knowledge which puffs up.

Because the body is the headquarters of the old sin nature, the Holy Spirit sets up His headquarters in the body for counteraction.

The battlefield is the soul.

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is documented in ROM 8:9; 1CO 3:16; 1CO 6:19-20; GAL 3:2; GAL 4:6; JOH 7:37-39; JOH 14:16-17.

1JO 2:20 says But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.

1JO 2:27 And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.

“Anointing” or “unction” of the Spirit is found in 1JO 2:20,27, these terms are synonymous with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit but not with the filling of the Holy Spirit.

The objective of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is to break the sovereignty of the old sin nature’s rule over human life experientially.
The baptism of the Spirit breaks it positionally, GAL 5:17.

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the “principle” of victory over the old sin nature, while the filling of the Holy Spirit is the “function” of that victory over the old sin nature.

So, while the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is permanent, the filling of the Holy Spirit fluctuates due to the trends of the old sin nature and the function of our volition toward those trends.

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit involves the “body” of the believer; the filling of the Holy Spirit involves the “soul” of the believer.

Since the human race is divided into two categories based upon their attitude toward Jesus Christ, the sins against the Holy Spirit are divided the same way.

a. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, MAT 12:14-32.
b. The second one unbelievers do commit is resistance of the Holy Spirit, ACT 7:51.

“Stiff-necked” means scar tissue of the soul.
“Uncircumcised of heart” means blackout of the soul.

To the unbeliever, the Holy Spirit acts as a human spirit in order to make the gospel real and understandable to them, 1CO 2:14.

1. Negative volition at the point of gospel hearing.
2. Negative volition at the point of the divine call.
3. Negative volition at the point of salvation opportunity through faith in Christ.

a. Lying to the Holy Spirit, ACT 5:3.
b. Grieving the Holy Spirit, EPH 4:30.
c. Quenching the Holy Spirit, 1TH 5:19.

They discovered that Barnabas, one of their rivals in business, had actually given all of his property to the ministry of Peter, who in turn gave it to the starving in Jerusalem.

At this point, they were the worst enemies of the church, not because they didn’t give, but because they were hypocrites.

Arrogance becomes the basis of rejecting the ministry of God the Holy Spirit in the life. Christian activism is born-again believers being used by satanic thought to whitewash the devil’s world.

Grieving the Holy Spirit, EPH 4:30, is the status of post-salvation sinning. Grieving the Spirit is self-fragmentation from soul sins like the arrogance complex of sins, the lust pattern, the emotional complex of sins, or antinomianism. Grieving the Holy Spirit is really the more persistent sinfulness of the apostate believer living in Satan’s cosmic one system.

No matter how low you go into sin, you always have choices–the choice to rebound and then to get back in fellowship with God through the study of His word.

The third sin a believer can commit against the Holy Spirit is quenching the Holy Spirit, 1TH 5:19. The command is found in 1TH 5:19 “Stop quenching the Spirit.”

1. When you have stress in your soul, you are quenching the Holy Spirit.
2. When the old sin nature controls your soul to produce human good and dead works, you are quenching the Holy Spirit.
3. When you have false doctrine in the soul, you are quenching the Holy Spirit.

Quenching the Spirit is entrance into the last three stages of apostasy or Christian degeneracy: blackout of the soul, scar tissue of the soul, and the total collapse of the believer. As the result of quenching the Spirit is either locked-in moral or immoral degeneracy.
