Point 1. The Source of Spiritual Gifts which involves All Three Members of the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Point 2. Definition and Description.
“gift” itself is derived from the Greek word for grace, charis.
When you add the suffix “ma” it means receivers of grace.
In the Church-age spiritual gifts are the sovereign decision of God the Holy Spirit given to every believer at the moment of salvation, 1CO 12:11.
a. Under the principle of definition and description a spiritual gift is a unique ability sovereignly given to each believer by God the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation.
b. These gifts are for the purpose of serving the Lord and edifying the body of Christ, not bringing glory to self.
c. The spiritual gift is extraordinary powers distinguishing certain Christians and enabling them to serve the church of Christ.
Point 3. There Are Two Categories of Spiritual Gifts Found in the Bible.
a. Temporary spiritual gifts which were operational during the pre-canon period of the Church Age, i.e., from approximately AD 30 AD 96, the pre-canon period of the Church Age.
b. The second category are permanent spiritual gifts which function from the completion of the New Testament in 96 AD until the Rapture of the Church.
Point 4. The Spiritual Gifts Found in the New Testament.
ROM 12:6-8, the gifts of prophecy, serving or ministering, teaching, exhortation, giving, leading or ruling and mercy.
1CO 12:8-10 – the gifts of the word of wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, distinguishing of spirits or discernment, tongues, and the interpretation of tongues.
In 1CO 12:28, we have the gifts of apostles, prophets, pastor-teachers, miracles, healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues.
In 1CO 13:8, there are gifts of prophecy, the gift of tongues, and the word of knowledge.
In 1PE 4:11, we have the gift serving or ministering and the gift of speaking.
EPH 4:11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,
Point 5. Distinctions and-of Spiritual Gifts.
A distinction and differentiation or the special achievement of each gift needs to be understood so that every believer can find or discover his place in the body of Christ concerning the function of each spiritual gift in operation today.
