5. The distribution of spiritual gifts which occurs at the moment of salvation.

Spiritual gifts are simply an illustration of the grace policy of God and one of the forty things that God gives to every believer at the moment of salvation.

Point 1. The Source of Spiritual Gifts is a Fascinating Subject Because it Involves All Three Members of the Trinity.

a. God the Father as the source is documented in HEB 2:4.
b. Secondly, there is also the ministry of God the Son in the distribution of spiritual gifts, as in EPH 4:7-8.

EPH 4:7-8, But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it says, “When He ascended on high, He led captive a host of captives, And He gave gifts to men.”

c. To join in bearing witness, to unite in adding to a testimony.

You support and agree together with God or you join in bearing witness with the divine plan of God and the glorification of TLJC.

You unite with other believers in adding testimony by building up and edifying the body of Christ.

ECC 4:9, Two are better than one…………and then it tells us why, because they have a good return for their labor.

Solomon is saying it’s better not to go it alone. It’s better not to minister alone. It’s better not to face a crisis alone.

We normally all have a hard time admitting that we need people. We are tough-minded individuals.

“Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

REV 11:3, “And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for twelve hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”

It’s good to have a companion there to keep us from getting too wounded and bloody.

2TI 1:16, “The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chains;”

True friends do not forsake you in times of disaster, humiliation or defeat.

“Within each man, there is a dark castle with a fierce dragon to guard the gate! The castle contains a lonely self. A self most men have suppressed!

A self they are afraid to show. Instead, they present an armored knight. They present an armored knight and no one is invited inside the castle!

The dragon symbolizes the fears and fantasies of masculinity, the leftover stuff of childhood.
When men take the risk and let down the draw bridge, people respond to one another as whole persons and they try to communicate with openness and intimacy.

Openness brings with it an opportunity for a growing relationship and for a wider range of deeply felt experiences. This is the stuff from which friendships are formulated and sustained”

The phrase “woe to the one” is wa’iylow which means God help, peril, danger, horrors……..to the one who falls when there isn’t someone there to catch him.

PSA 37:24 When we falls, we shall not be utterly cast down because the Lord is the One who holds our hand.

How does the Lord hold your hand or cause you to stand?

There’s no way around it…..God uses people to minister to our need!

Perhaps one of the greatest of all disillusionments is to marry thinking one is getting a companion and instead one gains an adversary.

So in verse 10 we have mutual encouragement! In verse 11, mutual support!
Verse 12, we have mutual protection.

“I think this is a satanic attack or a demonic attack and the companion helps us through those times!”

2SA 23:16 So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, and drew water from the well of Bethlehem which was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless he would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord;

DAN 3:16-17, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king.

1SA 20:23 says “As for the agreement of which you and I have spoken, behold, the Lord is between you and me forever.”

Point 2. Definition and Description.

The word itself is derived from grace, charisma.
eceivers of grace.

And in the Church-age spiritual gifts are the sovereign decision of God the Holy Spirit given to every believer at the moment of salvation.

We do not have the spiritual gift because we earned it or deserved it.

Now, you must remember that tongues, interpretation of tongues, healings and miracles were all temporary spiritual gifts, no longer in existence today.

The word for spiritual is pneumatika which means spirituality or spiritual things.

And when it but especially that you may prophesy it means that you may speak by divine inspiration, it does not mean that you may foretell the future.

The principle then, spiritual gifts are sovereignly given by the Holy Spirit to each believer at the point of salvation.

Now, the initial distribution of spiritual gifts, from the day of Pentecost for about twenty years, came from the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Holy Spirit.

Your spiritual gift becomes operational through normal spiritual growth.

a. Spiritual growth. Some believers use their equal privilege and equal opportunity and achieve phenomenal growth.
b. Spiritual gifts. The distinction among believers in spiritual gifts has its source in the sovereign wisdom of the Holy Spirit.

1. The filling of the Holy Spirit is the absolute concept of experiential Christianity.
2. The degree of spiritual growth is the relative concept of experiential Christianity.

As you have momentum from doctrine, your spiritual gift will function, even without your cognition.

Spiritual gifts are the Father’s witness to the saving work of Christ, and to the strategic victory of our Lord in the angelic conflict.

a. A spiritual gift is a unique ability sovereignly given to each believer by God the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation.
b. These gifts are for the purpose of serving the Lord and edifying the body of Christ, not bringing glory to self.

Joseph Thayer says, charisma is extraordinary powers distinguishing certain Christians and enabling them to serve the church of Christ.

Then he says, this is due to the power operating in their souls from Bible doctrine and the filling of the Spirit.
