Overcoming the problems of self-consciousness and selfishness, Part 2.

Tuesday, May 1, 2001

We all have the problem of over-emphasis on self or self-consciousness.

JOH 15:13 “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”
1JO 3:16 “We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”

GEN 3:7 “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked;”

The first thing they did was to sew fig leaves together and make themselves loin coverings.

GEN 5:3 “When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image,”

JOH 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

JOH 12:23 “The hour [cross] has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.”

JOH 17:1 “These things Jesus spoke; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, Father, the hour has come; glorify Thy Son, that the Son may glorify Thee,”

LUK 9:23 “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”

PHI 2:3 “Do nothing motivated by contentiousness or ambitious pride, but with humility of mind let each of you keep on considering one another as more important than himself;”

Love is what is left in a relationship after all the selfishness is taken out.

God’s family doesn’t operate like the world’s family; we are in the world but not of the world, JOH 15:19; JOH 17:14,16.

The Adam and Eve disease caring for self, occupation with self, promotion of self, protecting self. We become blinded to the real blessing of contentment and divine promotion.

2CO 8:9 “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”

PHI 1:21 “For me, living is Christ, likewise dying is profit.

EST 4:16 “If I perish, I perish.”

Our Lord was so completely selfless and occupied with others.
