1. Idolatry = the result of the Jews rejecting the word of God.

2. Paul is warning believers to flee from idolatry in 1CO 10:14.

COL 3:5 Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.

Idolatry is used by Paul to include covetousness or being envious at what others have or possess –
EPH 5:5 for this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

MAT 13:22 And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

She was known by the name of Jezebel – it was really her title.

Jezebel was the wife of Ahab, the king of Israel, 1KI 16:31.

Jezebel has stamped her name on history as the representative of all that is conniving, crafty, malicious, revengeful, and cruel.

Guided by no principle, restrained by no fear of either God or man, passionate in her attachment to her heathen worship, she spared no pains to maintain idolatry around her in all its splendor.

Jezebel represents all of the distractions that women, sex, and false religion can make upon those believers who desire to execute their very own personal drama and fulfill their personal sense of destiny.

She represents any person or goal or thing that is designed to take the believer away from executing his very own personal drama and fulfilling his personal sense of destiny.

She chased many of God’s people away from the plan of God just as Jezebel of the Old Testament did, 1Ki 19.

The spiritual Jezebel of Thyatira pretended to be inspired by God and she seduced God’s servants to loose living or licentiousness, fornication and idol worship.

In spite of desperate conditions in the church at Thyatira, TLJC gives them the warmest commendation for love and service –
REV 2:19 I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first.

Thyatira’s favorite god, Apollo, claimed to be the son of Zeus, the father of all gods.
Christ’s claim is much higher – He is THE Son of God!

Christ’s eyes are like unto a flame of fire = His inspection of every believer is severe.

ECC 8:11 Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed quickly, therefore the hearts of the sons of men among them are given fully to do evil.

HEB 4:13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

Most believers do not realize the importance of being alone with God and having Him deal with these areas of their life.

PSA 19:12 Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults.

NKJ –
PSA 19:12 Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.

In some cases, these things are totally different and contrary to the character of the individual and therefore are suppressed and hidden in the secret chamber of men’s hearts.

1CO 4:4 For I am conscious of nothing against myself, yet I am not by this acquitted; but the one who examines me is the Lord.

So many believers have skeletons in their closet or a secret room which is very confidential, private, and undisclosed.

EPH 4:27 and do not give a place [topaz – a room] to the devil.

PRO 2:10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;

PRO 24:4 And by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

ECC 7:12 for wisdom is protection just as money is protection. But the advantage of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the souls of its possessors.

PRO 19:8 he who gets wisdom loves his own soul; he who keeps understanding will find good.

ISA 5:13 Therefore My people go into exile for their lack of knowledge;

HOS 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

Just as doctrine gives the rooms of the soul pleasure and freedom, a lack of doctrine in the rooms of the soul produces slavery and bondage.

There are rooms in the souls of multitudes of Christians where there are all kinds of idols, errors, secret faults, fears, insecurities and doubts.

Sometimes it is a room where personal weaknesses are allowed to continue because the individual does not know how to overcome them – or in some cases, does not want to.

Most of the time, this is a room of guilt, fear and shame.

JER 17:9 The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?

ROM 7:15 For that which I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.

It is a room untouchable by man but touchable by God!

In this room, there is usually something that the individual is extremely devoted to.

An idol can be the worship of a physical object or objects as God, or inordinate attachment or extreme devotion to anything.

Idolatry means not only giving to something or someone the honor or devotion which belongs to God alone, but the giving in to any human desire a precedence over God’s will.

Unless a believer is free from the chambers of imagery in his soul or this room of secret faults or sins, that believer will never enjoy true freedom.
