Most of our problems and obstacles would melt away if, instead of shrinking in fear before them, we should make up our minds to walk boldly through them.

PSA 23:4  Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.

They had seen the power of God, namely the 10 plagues in their deliverance from Egypt, but they made no application from that doctrine to this disaster.

Because they failed to concentrate on what they had learned and allowed fear and panic to control their soul.

They were not able to pick up and use the shield of faith and they expressed their fear rather than their faith.

When you’re in a hopeless situation that’s when you need to think.

When you’re in a hopeless situation that’s when you need to pick up and use the shield of faith.

Picking up and using the shield of faith here means to stand still because the Lord will fight for you while you’ll keep your mouth shut.

PSA 46:10 “Be still or cease striving and know that I am God;

1SA 17:47  “And that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.”

ROM 8:31  What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

When you are afraid of a thing, you give that thing power over you.

When you’re afraid of a person, you give that person power over you.

Why did Adam hide himself?

He heard the voice of God.   He heard the word of God.

GEN 3:10, we read,  “I heard the sound of Thee in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.”
The greater your capacity for fear, the greater your capacity for arrogance and becoming a loser because you do not pick up and use the shield of faith.

1.  The carnal believer, ROM 8:7; 1CO 3:1‑3
2.  Prisoner to the law of sin, ROM 7:23.
3.  A wretched believer, ROM 7:24.
4.  Grieving the Holy Spirit, EPH 4:30.
5.  Quenching the Spirit, 1TH 5:19. 6.  The enemy of the cross, PHI 3:18. 7.  The enemy of God, JAM 4:4. 8.  The flawed believer, JAM 1:23-24.

JAM 1:23-24, “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a person who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.”

Fear is an emotional sin.

Emotions cannot think!   Emotion has no true courage.    It has a pseudo courage.

Satan wants to attack any organization that is promoting and honoring the word of God because of what JOH 1:1 says that   JOH 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Faith is always the shield that you have to hold up to quench these flaming missiles of the evil one.

We can define faith in “the shield of faith” as meaning the quick application of what we believe as an answer to everything that the kingdom of darkness throws our way.

The answer is that faith never points to itself, it always points to its object.  The object of course is the word of God which TLJC used when He was faced with the flaming missiles of the evil one in Mat 4, LUK 4.

The point is that it is possible to learn a great many doctrines, and yet fall apart in an emergency or sudden pressure situation.

One is because for some, the way of forgetting often exceeds the rate of learning because of certain problems along the way.
JOB 23:12 says “I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.
JER 15:16  Thy words were found and I ate them, And Thy words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; For I have been called by Thy name, O   Lord God of hosts.
PRO 8:34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my doorposts.
LUK 9:23  And He was saying to them all, “if anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
LUK 19:47   And He was teaching daily in the temple; and the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people were trying to destroy Him,
All spiritual strength is in the pre-frontal lobe of the soul.
In a sudden disaster what you think and how you think will determine how you handle the test.
Many believers can testify that the soul is the place where the real battle in any situation takes place.
Sudden disaster often places the believer in panic palace, much to his own shock.
You’re too subjective, Or your too shocked and stunned! Or like the Jews in our passage, you’re too emotional.
The difference between fear and courage then is an issue in panic palace.
The difference between fear and courage is the ability to concentrate under pressure.
1CO 10:13 God is faithful, who will not permit you to be tested above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Concentration is required then, not only for learning Bible doctrine and metabolizing it, but concentration is required even to a greater extent when under a stress situation.
Adversity, suffering, disaster, stress, is certainly designed to destroy your concentration and to cause your rate of forgetting to exceed your rate of learning.
True faith always selects something that is stronger than the strength of stress – repeat.
Prin – The suddenness of a change often from prosperity, or what appears to be prosperity causes stress.
They wanted to return to slavery.
The solution is found in the faith-rest drill as a problem solving device.
