The spiritual life is not to be executed or achieved through statistical understanding or a spiritual formula.

The seed of Abraham is both real (the Lord Jesus Christ) and spiritual (all those who believe in Christ).

God did not promise this to the Jews because of their birth or because they are descended from Abraham.

No one has these promises by natural birth, only by the new birth: “Ye must be born again.”

Throughout the Bible, the Jews claimed that they were special people to God simply because they were related to Abraham physically rather than spiritually.

ROM 9:6... For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel;

HEB 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

JER 29:13 “And you will seek Me and find {Me,} when you search for Me with all your heart.”

1JO 2:15-17 Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever.

2CO 13:14 “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.”

1CO 1:9 “God the Father, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The promises were given to the spiritual seed of Abraham not to the natural seed, so that Paul could say -
ROM 9:6... For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel;

The spiritual analogy and application for us is that many Christians think that all they have to do is believe in Christ and that makes them qualified for all the promises and blessings of God given to them in Christ.

Not to those, like the Jews, who go through some religious system or formula and do not have a personal relationship with the Lord which is revealed by a spiritual relationship with His people.

God didn’t promise this to the Jews because of their birth or because they are descended from Abraham.

You cannot please God by following a set of rules or laws or, in the Church-age, a formula to receive the promises of God or to please God.

The spiritual life is not be executed or achieved through statistical understanding or a spiritual formula.

JOH 4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

JOH 6:63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.”

Just like the Law is holy and just, the biblical doctrines are holy and just, however, like the Law, these doctrines are designed to lead us to Christ and ultimately baptized into His body experientially, which is the Church.

We are not to get so technical or adamant about the written word or the principles of doctrine that we become inflexible and forget about the importance of the living word, TLJC.

Religion is seeking to gain the approbation of God by human works,
or by following some system or procedure that is man-made.

Line upon line, precept upon precept, and doctrinal principles are vitally important.

Christianity is God working on man’s behalf; religion is man seeking to work on God’s behalf.

“Let no one declare you ineligible.”

By succumbing to the attack of religion, which in our day and age also can refer to program spirituality, statistical obsession of the believer who is in danger of becoming a loser believer and ineligible for reward.

Self-abasement = most people are impressed by what they give up, especially if giving up something causes them some pain or inconvenience.

Humility in the sense of self-effacement is not a Christian virtue; it is an attack of religion.

Asceticism is a strict adherence to rules regulations and formulas.

Pres-act-part = to constantly take pleasure in self-effacement.

Some people succumb to the religious attack by catering to asceticism in their old sin nature.

Religion attacks in different ways because there is a great deal of difference between taking pleasure in self-effacement and in the worship of angels.

“Worshipping of angels” actually means religious worship.

Taking a stand on those things = dreams, visions, hallucinations, which he has seen.

1. Satan attacks the authority of the Bible. He says that what you dream, what you have in a trance, what you see when you get ecstatic, is just as real or more real than what the Bible says; therefore go for ecstatics.

2. It emphasizes feeling and ecstatic experience as having merit. How you feel, then, is more important than what the Bible says.

The inflation without cause - pres-pass-part = to be inflated with pride or arrogance = “being inflated with arrogance.”

COL 2:18... by his fleshly mind [under the influence of the thinking from the source of his old sin nature].

Pres-act-part - krateo - “holding” = to seize, to apprehend, to be occupied with someone or something which belongs to self.

“The Head” - accusative singular noun kephale = absolute sovereignty of TLJC.

It also connotes the concept of celebrityship and is a reminder that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only celebrity in the Church-age. The concept of Christ as the head of the Church = EPH 1:22,23; 5:23; 2:16; 4:4,5; COL 1:18,24.

When a believer is occupied with the Head, TLJC, that believer will reveal so by a life or the fruit of the daily function of perception, metabolization, and application toward doctrine.

With doctrine as the working object of faith the believer has maximum category #1 response causing him to be designated philos Theos, a “lover of God.”

JAM 2:23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God.

When a believer is occupied with the Head, his life is based upon the glorification of Christ, COL 3:1-2.

Occupation with Christ is the standard operating procedure for the Christian life, HEB 12:1,2. It demands that we take in doctrine and that we become occupied with the person of Christ.

Occupation with Christ is illustrated by the doctrine of right man, right woman, EPH 5:25-32; 1CO 11:7.

The function of perception, metabolization, and application toward doctrine is the believer responding to the love of Jesus Christ, JAM 1:21-22.

Occupation with Christ includes total dependence on grace provision leading especially to this function in the supergrace life,
PSA 37:4-5.

Occupation with Christ is related to both stability and inner happiness,
PSA 16:8-9.

Occupation with Christ is the basis for blessing in suffering. While reversion intensifies suffering occupation with Christ minimizes suffering,
2CO 12:9-10.

Occupation with Christ is based on the believer’s entrance into the supergrace life,
HEB 3:1-6.
